Thank you so much for this video! So many useful tidbits. I especially appreciated the bits about the spring tabs needing to be inside when installing the side panels, and near then end when you showed where the FM loop was - I would have never found that on my own. And that was the only thing that needed to be done with the subwoofer removed. I don't remember you showing where the optical loop goes, but I found that it is necessary for removing the old "tooki" bluetooth box in the dash... I was originally thinking it would go in the boot with the CD navigation drive, but no... nothing needs to be done up front for this install. Thank again!

I did the same install on my 987 (with Bose) yesterday and it all went smoothly. The CD changer has power but no longer seems to function. The only differences I noticed are that there is no where to plug the yellow digital FM cord into the car, so it hangs loose behind the unit. Also, FM reception works well like this and the FM bypass is not required either. The unit sounds great and integrates like a factory unit into the system, making it seem like a new car!

was any programming needed. Thanks
@MNToolBox Жыл бұрын
That's great feedback!! I did the bypass as I assumed the reception would be hindered by the legacy antenna booster, but maybe it wouldn't matter?! No programming was needed and although I don't have the cd changer, I believe there was an additional bypass / loopback wire that may need to be put in place behind the CD changer up in the hood.

Excellent video, convinced me to buy this unit and install it ourselves into a 2008 Cayman replacing the original CDR24 with the Bose package. Good attention to detail, especially about those side spring tabs. We found that plugging the FM antenna wire directly into the top antenna connector, and not using the fiber (yellow + black) connector at all yielded better FM reception. Thank you !

Great video! Very comprehensive. One upgrade I did to my microphone installation is I ordered from Enfig Car Stereo a Porsche 997 microphone that allows the microphone, all be it with some small modifications, to be installed under the housing of the steering column instead of on top as originally instructed for the PCCM+. Ideally, Enfig could manufacture the small housing needed to clip into the factory placement on its own, but in the meantime, spending an extra $50 bucks is worth it for the factory placement upgrade. Not sure why Porsche did not figure this out in the first place.

Correction for the subwoofer removal. There is a T30 screw holding the subwoofer but it seems like whoever else removed it last time on your car didn’t screw it back. The 3 prong plastic piece on top of the subwoofer comes up if you just pull it with your hand which opens the screw/hole.

This video clarifies and expands on the install procedure described on the Rennsport website, and makes more sense of it. The install can be frustrating without instructions (by Porsche design). As you note near the end of the video, to properly remove the BOSE subwoofer on the passenger side of the console tunnel: first gently remove the small grilled air vent (on it’s middle bottom is a tab to depress and remove) this allows access to a previously hidden torx bolt that holds on the vent/grill housing. Second, remove that plastic grill housing, allowing access to a larger Torx 30 (with a washer) securing the actual subwoofer to the console. Loosen or remove that T30, and THEN pull the subwoofer toward the rear of the car to continue with head unit removal. 👍🏼

Great explanation compared to others. I've subscribed. I have a few questions: 1) Was any radio code supplied and any programming needed? I have Cayman 2006 with Bose. 2) Have you had any issues with the unit not turning off. There are some forum people with that issue? Thanks
@MNToolBox Жыл бұрын
There wasn't any codes needed to turn on and I just did a normal station channel scan and hit save ( super simple ). After a few months now with the new PCCM I would say that my only complaint is, that the radio turns on every time I start the car. So if you hold in the power button and turn it fully off, it turns back on when you restart the car the next time. I would think that it should stay off if you turn it off until you turn it on again.... interesting... Dealership says this is normal behavior. its a small complaint though

Wish you would of shown how you removed the bose woofer panel. I know you said it's easy, but.... Can you tell me where the clips are at least. The panel must be removed or else I cannot get to the FM bypass process.
@MNToolBox9 ай бұрын
The woofer has a small grill at the top, this grill comes off and there is a screw behind it. then the woofer slides towards the back of the car. Mine had been remoded previously by the original owner so probably when the satellite radio was installed and the installer dd not put the screw back in, so my woofer just slid back and off the bracket. I realized the screw had been missing so I replaced it when I put the woofer back on, which also stopped a woofer rattle that annoyed me.

Hi M, thanks for putting this up. I have the unit installed in my 997.1 by my local specialist. But noticed a slight delay / lag in response of the volume knob everytime I use Apple Carplay. It also resets the equalizer (bass/treble) by itself at random 😢. So this feels a bitch glitchy and beta. Have you noticed anything like this? Or anybody else with de 997 units?
@MNToolBox Жыл бұрын
I didn't really notice a delay in volume response but I will check again and perhaps others in the comment section might chime in. Mine turns on every time I start the car which is kind of a bummer annoyance. I am not sure if that is the same for others as well..... All in all though, it is a vast improvement!

I had PCCM Plus installed in my 2007 911 997 with a Bose Sound system, and I'm disappointed with the volume level, especially with CarPlay. It can't be compared to the old system. Does anyone know what might be causing this, or is it simply a fact that this PCCM Plus doesn't match the quality of the original system?
@randysklar12605 ай бұрын
I have the same complaint. The volume level is way too low even when it’s turned up to the max when using CarPlay . The radio volume is much louder. There is a sub menu where you can adjust the Bluetooth, tuner, USB port baseline volumes up and down. You can hear a real difference in the tuner volume when adjusted upper down a little difference in the USB when a thumb drive is plugged in but no difference at all with CarPlay. To access sub menu press Car, then set them volume. This is very disappointing.

Anybody have any issues with the large red plug that comes with the new PCCM+ head unit not fitting into the factory plastic connection? I cannot for the life of me figure out why it only slides in half way and absolutely will not close.
@the_Novelist6 күн бұрын
EDIT: In case anybody runs into this issue...take a small screwdriver, insert into the factory pins and slightly widen them out to accept the red wiring harness. If that doesn't work, take some channel locks and squeeze the two connectors together (GENTLY). I had to persuade them to lock together. After an hour of trouble shooting, that's the only thing that worked. Haven't seen this come up in any other forums.and seeing as how the OP used a single hand to lock his together while filming with the other hand...mine was definitely tweeked. Hope this saves somebody a couple hours... Thanks for the vid. Other than my own issue everything went just as described. Oddly, my car needed the brown wire plug (2005), and the FM jumper was a definite MUST on my application down by the floor.
