Having an actual key, an E brake lever not a button, no touch screen, manual or hydraulic steering rack are some of my markers of an analog car. Definitely no GPS.

I would consider the last of the g body cars to be the end of analog Porsche. Could also argue that 1973 was the last of the analogs with the introduction heavier bumpers, power windows, AC becoming normal spec etc. Each of those options either took away direct interaction with the car or took away the driver feel due to added weight.

Analog can be difficult to live with but raw feel is what engineers dream of when building a modern sports car. The NVH of the 991.2 gt3 touring is what I enjoy yet it’s a modern car. They say the ST takes NVH to new levels

Great discussion. After owning two 987.2 Gen-1 Spyders, then a base 981 Cayman, a 991.1 Carrera T, a 997.2 Gt3 RS, and a 718 Spyder, I'm now back into my 3rd Gen1 Spyder. The perfect, last of the true analogue Porsches. Just so good.

Analog and Raw are the words used most in this discussion. The word "visceral" is the word I would use to express the way most people want their Porsche to feel. The combination of rawness, power, and feel makes a Porsche a visceral experience. Analog can contribute to this combination in the feel category, but much more is involved. With that being said, I race wheel to wheel in my 09 Cayman S 320 WHP and 2800lbs, I also race a Rush SR prototype car that is 100% analog (sequential gearbox?). Both of these cars are very exciting to drive, and both are very visceral in feel. My street car Porsche is a 19 GT3 RS, I would love to have an air-cooled Porsche, but I'd need a bigger garage. One last thing, my wife's 12 Cayenne S is not raw, analog, and only slightly visceral if you stomp it. So I know not all Porsches are race cars. Her car is a great grocery-getter.

981 GT4 is the last analog Porsche, with the last analog 911 being the 997: because for most people they know 991+ 911s are not anymore and the arguments are pretty weak to say they are. Analog is: physical dials, manual gearbox, naturally aspirated, low visible technology, direct feeling input, small, nimble and light.

OK, I'm convinced. We recently sold our 1923 Model T after 20 years. Going to sell the BMWs and the Porsche and getting the T back. Can't get any more analog than that. You haven't driven until you have drifted a T around a corner of a gravel road at 20 mph.

surprised an S2000 was not mentioned. yes it has ABS, but steering and the way you have to work the most beautiful shifter ever made to keep it on boil (above 8400 RPMs lol). driven lots of great cars but thst. sr for me is the gold standard of driver involvement

You guys came close, but I would still quibble with your selections for the last analog Porsche. The core aspects of driving a car are steering, braking, and applying power. When a car intervenes to control one of these aspects for the driver, it’s no longer analog in my opinion. So cars equipped with ABS are no longer analog in the purest sense. I would say the G body 911 is the last of the purely analog Porsches…

Manny - While I agree the 914 is "raw" they do have soundproofing (albeit limited) in the form of the tar boards on the floor, foam pad on the firewall of the engine compartment, and the inherent muffling properties of carpeting. Removing all of this will rattle your retinas and make your ears bleed!

After talking with someone next to my black car during the summer around lunch time, I nonchalantly put my hand on my car, ouch ! Never again a black car, unless I plan on cooking in my black car.

My opinion, but the definition of an "analog" vehicle, is one without the electronics in suspension, steering, stability control, transmision control,.. The 996 may be the last true "analog" 911 and the 987 Spyder is pushing it for the most allowable electronics but remain a true "analog" car. Once you add stability controls, electronic interferences to keep you alive.. That makes a car less "analog". It is also what I have loved about 911s.. Forever, they took a REAL driver to drive it fast. With electronics, etc they became a car that you were just along for the ride in. I have written a few articles on this subject, one for my local PCA newsletter, and have had many conversations on this subject.
