These are some of the best Port Charlotte expressions I've ever tasted. Let me know if you get to taste any of them. Cheers! 🥃

I always pick up a bottle of the 10yo at the duty free on my way home from work if I can get any and it is one of my favorites. Prices in Thailand are ridiculous and availability is not so good so a litre is preferable to a smaller bottle. Will definitely try one of the cask versions if the opportunity arises. For now a bottle of Octomore sits on my shelf ready for those special occasions.

I'm always keeping an eye out for Octomore at a good price. A friend of mine offered to pick up a bottle that was half the price of my local San Francisco shop. On our recent trip back from London, I tried to pick up the Port Charlotte MR: 01 travel-exclusive expression in the LHR Duty Free shop, but they were out.

I had to travel some 15000 km to Australia to taste my first Port Charlotte, it was a 6yo at 50% and I was impressed. When I got home I found the OLC 9yo at 55,1% bought it and were even more impressed, it is so good and complexe. I think it easily matches the Octomore 10yo (latest edition), which is about 75$ more. But it could be interesting if you made a comparison between these to one day. Big fan of your reviews by the way :-)

Thanks so much for the compliment and for watching. The OLC is good, right?! I thought I'd only find that Bruichladdich complexity in their Octomore line… and it's so hard to get the edition you want. They are always sold out. As far as a comparison video, something like that may appear on November 19. ;) Cheers!

The MRC is hard to get, which is a shame because it might be my favorite of the Cask Exploration Series. Cheers!

Odd . This video is over a year old. I bought this OLC 01 for $92 a couple days ago . There was maybe one or two more on the shelf. I have not opened it yet. Should I go get another at that price? Or should I get a Ledaig 18 for a little bit more $.
@WhiskyRiffs Жыл бұрын
Whisky prices are all about availability. If an expression is hard to get, we all will pay a much higher price. If it's just a local distribution issue, it could be expensive in one town and affordable in another. As for which to buy, that's a very personal decision. When I had my full whisky collection before traveling (findingGinaMarie.com), I liked to have some variety (over 200 bottles). But when I saw my favorites at a good price, I'd buy a backup bottle. Good luck with your decision and enjoy whatever you choose. Cheers!

@@WhiskyRiffs 200 seems like a great sweet spot. I’ve never reached 100. Always seem to be around the 90’s. Mind you I don’t count Irish , bourbon or blended scotch. The backup bottle is now my main issue. I don’t like to open a “last” or “only” bottle of anything I can’t readily replace. In the case of choosing between the Ledaig 18 and the PC 01, I have both. Ive never opened either because of scarcity. Now I have the opportunity to purchase either one (PC locally) but I can’t go by the usual personal experience. So I’m depending on online advice for that backup bottle of one or the other. So I can open one stress free. It’s a bad habit for for sure. 🤔 Edit: today I decided to get the local and harder to come by one. Purchased the PC.

Funny thing the OlC is cheaper than one off the other ones can't remember witch one. It's 120euro here. And I need another bottle. Because it's the best one.
@WhiskyRiffs2 жыл бұрын
Local prices are weird. I can compare three expressions at two SF shops and all three won't be consistently higher or lower at a shop. It just depends on how much they buy of each brand. Thanks for sharing prices!
@Kvs-vf9nt2 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskyRiffs I know it's the same here. Especially with Scotches where you have to go for to a Whisky shop for. Some are like 15 even 20euro cheaper. It's true it's how much did they buy and on what price and how long ago.. Recently I had a classic laddie from Mr McEwan still. And I paid 49euro. I also bought the laddie 8 and he has the laddie 22 too but it's 250euros. Then I rather buy just another organic bruichladdich from 2009 for like 78eu and a port Charlotte olc 01 2010 for 120. I even prefer the port Charlotte OlC 01 2010 over the octemore's that are very overpriced

I wasn’t able to find the travel edition, but you liked it better than the OLC. Interesting. I was enjoying the sweeter notes of the MRC but I keep waffling on which is my absolute favorite. Thanks for sharing and cheers!

@Whisky Riffs On some days, my palate leans PAC and on other MRC. But as more air has gotten into the bottle, MRC has begun to outshine PAC quite a lot. At this very moment, all 4 bottles, MRC,PAC, OLC, and MC, are at near the same levels, and MRC is gliding ahead like Usain Bolt towards effortless victory.

I've only tried one Port Charlotte, but it was so intense I'm amazed you're able to pick these three apart so finely - I guess that's a result of a better-developed whisky palate! Would it be blasphemy to add a touch of water?
@WhiskyRiffs2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Paul! I did add water in the previous MRC/OLC episode (kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4itZIFur72Lf5Y) but this one was already running long. A few drops of water did help soften the MRC. And these are very different from the Heavily Peated 10, which has many more sharp edges. Cheers!
