I don’t mind a tuna steak, if the fish is looked after it tastes alright. Couldn’t agree more, marlin are by far the best game fish!

Thanks mate. We have fished with and without them. Managed to catch a marlin without and thought it would be fine. We discovered this trip that they are absolutely necessary

That’s unfortunate. What let go each time?
@theroachlife2 жыл бұрын
Yep. First one I think we were too hard on the fish, went up to 12kg drag and pulled the hooks after 2 hours. The second one the mainline snapped, we were only fishing 8kgs. No explanation other than the line must have had a knick in it

No outriggers... Do you find the adjustable rod holders give enough clearance from the white water?
@theroachlife2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ian, We have never really used outriggers for the tuna, have found them to be more of a hinderance in the big swell and wind we usually fish in. With the rod holders we find if we run them a little further back they are plenty visible and the tuna don’t mind at all. Saying that, most of the barrels caught by friends this year have come from the short corner anyway, which is essentially in the prop wash. We use our outriggers when we are up the coast chasing marlin.
