I stumbled upon this video and started wondering what I was doing that day, thinking if I could see my car. Lo and behold, I skip to the exact moment of my car parked up on Horton street. Pretty nifty 34:29

I lived and worked in Port Macquarie in the 1970's... back when a lot of the historic landmarks were still in place. Sadly, over the years, they disappeared as real estate development expanded. In fact, the billboards along the highway once read - "Visit beautiful, historic, Port Macquarie" It once had many tourist attractions to enjoy... Fantasy Glades - Peppermint Park - Marbuk Park - Neptune's Park and several others. These are now gone and became prime real estate. Basically, the town has gradually become a staid retirement mecca. Of course, the beaches are still there, but, the once vibrant, soul of the town has waned quite a lot over the years. Much like the Gold Coast in Queensland did.

I was only telling someone about Fantasy Glades the other day. We used to live in Grafton in the 70’s and always went to Port for holidays. My grandparents lived on the Sundowner caravan park when it was all dirt roads. Had some great times there in those days but it’s all different now. I don’t like it anymore. Thanks for watching and commenting. At least we have our memories of what the place used to be like. 👍

Yep... I was good friends with George and Rosemary Whitaker, the owners of Fantasy Glades. It operated for 35 years, and closed in 2002. The park was left, pretty much as it was, until it was eventually vandalized and then demolished.

Thanks for watching. Port is a really nice place. We used to go holidaying there in the 80’s when we were kids. I’ve just added a new feature to my drive around town videos with a map so you can see where I’m going. Glad you liked the vid 👍
