PVC is so much better than corrugated. I'm seeing this method being used so much more. Thanks for sharing, good job !
@LivingCommonSense3 жыл бұрын
@TMacThePlumber - Thanks! The county came out and put a corrugated culvert across the road the other day. They had to dig up the road to do it. Barring digging up the driveway, I think smooth PVC is the only pipe that would slide into the bored hole. I enjoyed the project and making the video. Thanks for watching!

I've been plumbing for 25 years, good job but you definitely did it the hard way. I bore a lot, once you got the mini excavator you should have just lined up the pipe and push that pipe through. We do it all the time. If you didn't have the excavator you did the best anyone could.
@LivingCommonSense3 жыл бұрын
Hey I appreciate it. I looked at renting the mini excavator from up the road at $250 a day plus trailer but I decided to get an owner/operator to bring his out. He charged $200 for 30 minutes of digging, then another $200 to come back out and fill in the trench a few days later. This saved me a ton of time. I had plenty of time to think while I was swinging the hammer and I realized how easily the excavator could have shoved the pipe through. I had tried to contract the whole project but none of the landscapers around here would do it with anything larger than a 2" pipe. It never occurred to me to call a plumber for a drainage project. Live and learn I guess. I had fun learning and running the boring machine though. Thanks for the comment and watching!

What’s the soil like there Vinny, here you wouldn’t push it, it just breaks the pvc. We’ve busted it trying to shove 2” sleeves under a sidewalk for a water service.

@@nathanhudelson4935 you push the boring pipe through not the PVC. Pull the rod out then slide PVC pipe in. Here it's all clay and rock. Nasty stuff.

Another pro tip, glue a cap on the end you are shoving in and then cut it off when you're done so it doesn't get debris inside the pipe. Also if you have the means, you can over dig the trench and put clean stone in so you aren't trudging through mus the whole time. I know that it adds cost though.
@LivingCommonSense2 жыл бұрын
The cap idea is good! Hadn't considered that. If I were doing the stone, while I was at it, I'd probably put some on top of the pipe and kind of get a french drain going for the runoff from the yard up the hill a bit. I'd just have to lay some perforated pipe in the ditch next to the PVC. Live and learn I suppose. Thanks for the suggestions!

@LivingCommonSense2 жыл бұрын
Mostly top soil on this job. Red clay starts about 12" deep and can be wet or hard as concrete depending on the season. I wouldn't want to push this bit through any rocks or stones. That's for sure.

Fantastic Video - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Quick feedback would be appreciated. #1: Curious, what "excavator" did you use when digging? Example: was it a 1500 Lbs Wheeled Skid Steer? #2: You used a pilot bit to start the BORE-hole, with TWO 10-feet extensions? Then back with a 6-inch bit? That enabled pushing a 4" PVC into the "tunnel". Right?
@LivingCommonSense10 ай бұрын
1. I paid a guy who had the mini excavator to dig the trench. I'd say it weighed 8,000-10,000 lbs. He primarily tore down old houses/buildings with it and hauled them away. 2. Everything on the boring machine part came with the port-a-mole rental. The two extensions, the small bit that I pushed under the drive and the larger 6" bit I pulled back under the drive. That removed enough material to get the 4" PVC pipe pounded under the driveway. It was worked as expected for the last couple of years. Thanks for watching

Great work, but you should use a swivel on the reemer and drag the pipe behind you on the way back to avoid borehole collapse.
@LivingCommonSense Жыл бұрын
I would have at least tried a swivel if the machine had come with one. Not sure the small wench on this one would have been up to the task of pulling the pipe. I'd imagine its almost a requirement for the larger boring machines with really long runs of pipe. Thanks for watching!

I need to bore about 35 feet under concrete just a 3/4 pvc pipe. Is this possible?
@LivingCommonSense Жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried that. There is a walkway pipe tunnel kit on Amazon I bought but never used. Orbit Sprinkler System Under Walkway Pipe Tunnel Kit 53333N , Black a.co/d/cN0JTXP It has a tip that glued onto pvc pipe and a garden hose connector that glued to the other end. I think the idea is to turn on the water and slowly push the tip under the sidewalk and let the water jet erode the soft dirt in front of the pipe as you push it through. I don’t know how 35’ would go but there are some other videos out there that shows people using something similar. Hope this helps, good luck and thanks for watching!
@chainsawchips Жыл бұрын
It is possible to bore 35 feet as long as you have enough drill stems. I think this machine is rated to drill up to 100-120 feet.
