Hello. Seeking some advice. I have used your build as my base design but have come to a premature stop, as once the exhaust pipe is cut to the required length, the uncut end will fit either the exhaust port or the marine exhaust, but the cut end will not fit either as its actual internal diameter due to the ridges is smaller. Can you please advise how you over came this. Thanks in advance

@KeeganBuilds nice job. just a suggestion: it's better if you put the dc step down board in another place inside the box, or maybe add some filter or protection for the air coming from the fan. Cold air inside the hot box can create some water on the board, even some snowflakes can get inside the box because of the wind or a snowfall.

Be careful of CO poisoning due to the fresh cold air intake is close to the exhaust port, especially when the wind direction blows the exhaust towards the fresh air intake side, unless a return air duct is installed and warm air is drawn back from the van interior, it also increase the thermal efficiency of the heater.

Hi Alex, thanks for the kind words! It was definitely a long build but came out great! My Etsy parts are back on sale, I was out of filament but am back in stock. Superb. Wonder if there would be benefit to re-routing the already heated air from the cab back into the heater so you're not always heating up cool air? Obviously two 60mm tubes on your window mounted panel make things complicated and cumbersome. Do you think the extra complexity would be worth it to gain more heat? Maybe a inlet to accept another 60mm tube if required, attahed to another window panel at the other end of the vehicle?
@keeganbuilds3 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a thought I considered when coming up with this design. I do find however that the heater gets so hot as it is that I actually crack another window in the car and keep a hot flow of air going in one side and out the other! Plus I do like the idea of knowing that at a bare minimum I am getting some fresh air always entering the heater. Recirculation of the same air scares me if there ever was a failure and CO started entering the fresh air. (always run with a CO monitor as a backup tho!)

That is a great idea! What kind of amperage does the heater draw? Might have to make something like this with its own power source. It gets to -35°C before the windchill here and if I break down at work at 3am with no cell service or two way, nobody is going to notice I'm missing till 8am, then it could take hours till they find me. I could siphon some fuel out of the truck and fire it up. I think I would run two hoses into the cab and draw breathing intake and heater intake from inside the cab so snow doesn't plug it up.

Fantastic build! Could you (or anyone for that matter) explain the purpose of the 12v stepdown? You said in another comment that the computer fan has a 5v stepdown which I understand, just not the 12v. Does that just help ensure maximum longevity of the unit?
@keeganbuilds4 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the 12v buck step down was because I have multiple battery sources with different voltages. My main battery source is a 36v system. So I wanted a way to utilize any source of dc energy without worrying about dealing with it. Also, I’ve got a secondary step down on the computer fan that steps the 12 down to a 5. In future builds I would just utilize a 12v fan instead of stepping down again.
