All the manuals I have seen on installation say that the pump should not be placed horizontally, because it is the fuel that lubes it and one side (top side) always being dry can wear it out unevenly. Was that an issue for you? Thanks for the video.

Fluid cavitation causes bubbles in the line (this is normal and expected). When the pump is horizontal a big bubble forms on the 'top' of the piston resulting in metal-on-metal wear. This will cause the pump to fail or mis-dose. You want the pump to be filled with diesel, which provides the lubrication. The inner angles of the pump best allow the cavitation bubbles to 'escape' when placed at 15 - 30 degrees. Other than that, this is a brilliant setup! Yep, it'll just break; air builds up inside the fuel pump, metal on metal contact will be made during the solenoid action and then; one day; it'll just not.

I am so blessed with the superpower of ignoring this noise and I didn't realize it until I watched the 10th video on this subject. The amount of effort to divorce yourself from it is astonishing. I know it is a real thing because my girlfriend makes an annoying noise I can't escape when she is exposed to the annoying pump noise. Best one I have seen is pump placed in Styrofoam cup and then the cup filled with GreatStuff. The foam sealer that comes in a can. It is surprisingly simple and it works. For me I continue to ignore both annoying noises this heater is responsible for and the second noise caused by the heater is usually silenced once she realizes it is better to be warm than cold. Usually..... Sometimes I find camping by yourself is quite underrated.

greatstuff is flammable at temperatures much lower than the exhaust pipe and heat exchanger get, this is pretty dangerous advice. they even warn against using it around heaters of any kind on their website. don't do it. there are fireproof foams, that would seem to be infinitely safer.

I learned a lesson when my house got burgled and they ripped the alarm box off the wall and wrapped it in my bed quilt.When sounding off the alarm was deafening but wrapped in quilt you could barely make out a slight squeak.So I simply wrapped my fuel pump in foam strips and tape.It’s done the trick nicely.👌

If you want to keep the hard nylon on the output, you can form a coil with it by wrapping it around something and boil it in water for a while. Remove the core and it will keep a spring like shape. This dissipates a lot of the noise energy and keeps it out if the burn chamber. The whole coil jumps when the pulse occurs, but reduces the ticking noise that comes out if the main air output of the heater.

The sound deadening you have, is intended to remove vibration on thin materials, like steel or aluminum. I doubt it does anything to the plywood. In this case, I guess you would need sound absorption instead.

I described something similar to this to someone having this problem. The only thing I’d change would be to have the pump at an angle (as recommended in the destruction manual) and I’d have the outlet on the top of the box and the inlet on the bottom, to not have the pump in a high point (potential air trap) where air can accumulate. Most of what I describe could be achieved by turning the box through 90° along its long access and installing at the recommended angle.

tip that most people don't know: the adhesive sound deadening material everyone loves, doesn't actually ABSORB any sound. All it is, is a dense material that you can easily stick to a surface. Its meant for large flat panels (usually on vehicles) to reduce reverberations caused by vibrations from the road. Think of waving a piece of thin sheet metal around, then doing the same but with 6 layers of duct tape on the center of it. Other tip: covering an entire area in it is a waste of money. Its just there to dampen vibrations, so put a little in the centers of flat areas, and thats it. use foam for the rest

@ermanakbay
@ermanakbay 2 жыл бұрын
Great solution. Plywood is a good insulator. The denser the material, the better it'll insulate sound. (Unlike the common misconception that soft materials like foam, etc are good sounds insulators. They're not) As another user commented, the deadening material is used to prevent the vibration on metal in the first place, it is not an insulator. So it should be applied on the metal where the vibration is created. In this case, the pump itself.

Put at the other site whats is free another thick rubber hose into the bigger one so that a lot of the pump is covered with rubber. Big difference according old situation. You can hear it ofcourse but a huge difference than before and at a very comfy level. Think simpel…..

Ive built a simlar sort of thing for my pump but it is still slightly audioable at lower pump speeds, Im going to try suspending the whole box from bungee cord to see if it reduces the sound, instead of screwing the box to the outside wall box, Ive mounted my 5kw diesel heater in a wall box on the side of my home and at lower speeds you can still hear the ticking indoors, ideally id like to run it at night on a lower setting say 1.7 Hz but the background ticking keeps me awake at the moment. maybe ill use some screw in brass cup hooks at the top and bottom of the wall box for the heater and some on the plywood pump box and use these to supend the pump box with the bungee cord. Edit: finally found the time today, it works no more ticking in the house at 1.7Hz setting, I attached four cup hooks to the top of the build similar to yours and four more hooks to the top of the heater wall box at the air intake end of the diesel heater. and hung the whole thing on four looped pieces of 6mm bungee cord, Id say the ticking is 97% quieter standing right beside the wall box outside, my neighbours will be pleased as its esspecially quiet around here at night in a rural area in a valley where every sound travels a long way.I realise this isnt very practical for a mobile home or van as it would allow the pump box to swing back and forth but it might just work if there isnt to much slack in the fuel lines.

Nice work. Fuel pump should be angled down about halfway between horizontal and virtical, according to my eber manual. Probably enough room in the existing box to do that. If do not apparently excessive wear.
@andyj986
@andyj986 3 жыл бұрын
Correct. Fuel pump should be mounted at a 30 degree angle so cavitation bubble created by the fuel pump can escape. These bubbles are normal and assist in atomization of the fuel. If it’s horizontal air can not escape the pump, where there is air there is no diesel, diesel has paraffins in it to keep the pump lubricated. The piston in the pump will wear out very quickly being mounted horizontal. Also the black fuel line will absorb most of the pressure shock of the pump, but will also not inject the correct amount of fuel (these pumps deliver 0.02ml each cycle) without the hard nylon fuel line it will still be dribbling into the atomizer screen, the inside diameter of that hose is much bigger than the nylon tube. I’d recommend using the hard nylon fuel line then encasing that in rubber hose. Just a few things to consider.
@dustyodyssey
@dustyodyssey 3 жыл бұрын
@@andyj986 I appreciate the feedback. I am curious how long my fuel pump will last in the incorrect orientation, I am carrying a spare just in case. Also curious if I will have any issues with sooting since I am not using the hard nylon line. I am going to keep the setup as is in its incorrect configuration and report back if/when I have issues.
@Fromatic
@Fromatic 2 жыл бұрын
@@andyj986 The inside diameter of that hose will not have any impact, even if the inner diameter was 10cm it would just take longer to fill but once full one dose in would equal one dose out the other end, only issue might be with it being softer is if it expands and contracts along its length with each pulse meaning a dribble instead of a burst out the end, but as he said unlikely when the hose is still that short

Imho you did a lot of work to get this result. I'd say just get a hard plastic case. wrap the pump in squeezed foam and put lots of ducttape around it. Then take and old rubber tube and wrap that around it. Again ducttape all around. That will probably have the same result. You could then take a cushion cover and fill it with sand. wrap that around it and do an extra layer of ducttape. That will add mass to the insulation. Dampening the sound.
