Excellent... really great. Thank you so much for the update. Most people don't bother, even after they say they will. So, let me start by saying... I never criticize anyone who took the time to do what you've done... and this will be no different. No criticism cause... well... it's a great video. So, my thoughts? A little about myself. You and I think alot alike. Personally I'm kind of a generator nut. I have 5 generators... various sizes... each has it's own job when needed. Like the saying goes, two is one and one is NONE. I actually had 2 fail during the last power outage and swapped them out for backups to the backups. Your enclosure is first rate. A high temperature cutout would be a nice addition... add another layer of protection. The muffler setup you have will fail... just a matter of when. To have it attached without any margin for movement... it will surely shake itself to death. The best connection I've seen were people who used permanent magnets to connect the flange to the muffler and then used a one inch flex pipe between the engine and the black pipe out. The fact you changed the oil during the event was excellent... most people never change their oil. I went a different direction. I put my generator(s) in an enclosed trailer instead of a permanent structure. Allows me to utilize items for multiple tasks. I took the batteries off my generators and use a jumper pack to start them. This way I dont have to worry about charging them. I have 2 jump packs and just rotate them when they need a charge. I installed 50 amp plugs on everything and just plug the jump pack to the generator in use. I keep my generators in my heated garage and put them in place when i feel its necessary... I'm retired, I have that luxury. they go in the garage before my wife's Mercedes... lol. 2 of my 5 generators run on gas and propane... can't depend on being able to get gas. I have a 420 pound propane tank and 25 twenty pound tanks just for the generators. I have 50 gallons of gas in rotation at all times and ramp that up to 150 gallons on hand when a storm is coming. Fuel is the Achilles heel of this operation. After Sandy ... you couldn't find gas anywhere on long island but propane was everywhere ... my heating system uses #2 fuel oil so I'm thinking generator #6 will be diesel... lol. Kudos to you... I really enjoyed watching all your videos on the subject.... you did a great job ... thank you again...

Yea id say your all set up for the end of the world haha.. my exhast is easy enough to un thread the pipes with a pipe wrench and remove the generator out of the enclosure to work on it for any reason.. i have it set up in the enclosure where its not tight fitting on the exhuast coming out of the enclosure so it is free to vibrate and shake with nothing restricting movement.. the generator i have is fantastic but if for any reason in the future i need another one or just decide to get another one im definatly going to get one that can run on propane and gas.. its easier to store propane and cleaner...im glad someone of your generator status approves my setup and videos thanks for the input

@@ironoutdoorsman6646 I've seen people pour a whole lot more money into a similar setup like yours, but I think you hit the sweet spot and landed right on perfect. You explained everything very well... tested everything before you needed it... and nothing melted... lol. They sell a dual fuel carburetor for these Chinese clone engines... the regulator is built right onto the carb. Not very expensive... under $50 if my memory serves me correct. I picked one up for a 7hp generator I have for about $25 I think. Still allows you to run on gasoline but will also run on propane. Might be worth looking into if your interested...
@probeteam99364 жыл бұрын
Oh yea... one more thing... for air conditioners... if you get one or more window units or the stand alone units where the hose runs out the window.. you can cool certain rooms, like bedrooms... or the family room ... and only use about 5 to 10 amps per unit depending on the size. That allows me to cool the bedroom, for example, and still run everything else I want. I believe my wife is from another planet... the woman insists you be able to see your breath in the house ALL YEAR ROUND... I actually run two 7000 watt generators during a summer outage for her ac... but if I only had to cool one or two rooms... I would only have to run one generator... by using window units ... I pick them up at yard sales... or grab them from friends tossing them out... clean them up and store them away ... for a big event like you had . The stand alone units are great.. they roll wherever you need them and are easy to setup and move ... just a thought ...

@@probeteam9936 ⚠️Here is a very important announcement when using portable generators: Always remember to follow the generator safety instructions whenever you use your portable generator. This is just a reminder for everyone’s safety. All generator safety rules need to be followed carefully Here are the generator safety tips: 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Children often get curious about anything so we should keep an eye on them to also make sure they’re not wandering towards the generator. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2LNhWZ3g6qBrKs and here is a video about keeping others safe when using generators. All generator safety rules need to be followed carefully. You had suggested I watch this video. Thank you!!! This helps me out so much. My generator is a Firman. The flange on the exhaust is rather small. You used a 1 1/2” galvanized pip if I recall correctly. What did you use or fabricate to attack the pipe with out disrupting the compression of the generator? Thanks for your patience and your response’s.
@ironoutdoorsman66463 жыл бұрын
All i did was weld the threaded flange directly to the muffler centering over the exhaust opening.. then i was able to screw on the galvanized pipe into the flange and through the hardy board and out the encloser. Thats all i did.. compression doesnt seem to be affected much at all

You can run your a/c with other things running with that big generator! Go to a local appliance parts store or on Amazon but just make sure it's the American made one from a company based out of New Jersey, because I think they have some in almost identical Packaging and Looks and get a Supco 5 or 6 hard start capacitor that connects inside that outside fan next to the generator shed. The 6 works beautifully and it's last for a long time.. It's very simple to install two wires to empty spots on the regular capacitor that kicks on the A/C and the Supco hard start gives just gives it a big boost just to start the compressor and then it shuts off! It only comes on to start it, and it also extends the life of the fan! I keep mine attached at all times and I have two extras and two normal capacitors.. I use the Supco 6 I think my unit is three or four tons? It's a 1,500 foot square living space..With the A/C running I can only run only that 220.. My generator is only a Generac GP5500 watt.. It will run the combination frige/freezer, a freezer in garage, lights, fans, TV and the exhaust fan inside the shed!! I think the a/c was installed in 1996

@@ironoutdoorsman6646 anytime! I live in Southeast Louisiana and A/C is a must if you plan on riding out a Tropical Storm or Hurricane!! I had people baffled how my 5500 watt generator was running just my a/c! Lol. How many ton A/C do you have? After Hurricane came Zeta came right over my area Fast and Furious and my side the street was out for 5 day's and the other side and behind them were out for two weeks! Oh after I degreased the shed and generator to pull back in my garage it has 850 hours. I store it with non-ethanol fuel and when did my test run two days before and started on the first pull. I just was finishing up the shed except for routing the generator exhaust out of the shed and the exhaust fan pulled it out fine and it didn't get above a 109° and it was in the low 90's and of course high humidity! Still plan on routing it out the shed, but gonna do something different than I was gonna do! And I only have two vents like normal house vents. It creates more of a suction and draws more fresh air in..Glad I didn't use the larger 20" × 18" vent.

I also live in South East Louisiana. After Hurricane Laura, we were out of power for 28 days and for 2 days after Delta. My 8k running and 10k starting generator would not start my 3.5 ton unit. I installed the Kickstart hard start capacitor for like 37 bucks and I can run the a/c along with everything else no problem

50 amps should be able to run your HVAC and maybe your entire house. Running the attic fan and all the ceiling fans are pulling a lot. I'm putting my West 9500 on a small work shed that has a small window AC and portable oil electric heaters for the winter. I'm in Oklahoma and we get ice storms and a few tornadoes, power outages are rare to last very long but when they do, it's a few days. I've done the amp's I'll pull and I figure as long as I don't have anything but my led lights and make sure I don't run power where I don't need it, I'll be able to run the entire house including the chest freezer in the garage. I did the power for my work shed myself, and probably could do my house, but I'll have an electrician do the hook up and sub panel. Don't want any issue with a back feed that could kill some one. Anyway, I'll test it with getting my back feed block on and have all my home breakers off. I'll start with my most important which will be the HVAC, then only the master bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen, tv/living room. I'll continue till I get a breaker snap and I'll either change my load priority or know that's where I stop. Nice vid by the way.
