I'm on the east coast. Windy days would be an issue here as well. Thank you for persevering and keeping a positive attitude. I look forward to the next episode of Alaska Granny and her Greenhouse Adventures! 🌻

I have had one like that for several years. I recommend changing out anchor stakes with heavy duty tent camping ones, like Coleman’s 10” long and thick with the thick plastic hooked top. Ours was good until the velcro on windows did not stick anymore. In a very strong wind storm, the wind blew open the window, ripping the screen and then, getting into the tent, lifted whole thing up and turned it over and blew until it was stopped by privacy fence. We were able to right it up and move it back but no longer in the best of shape, lol. This one has lasted better than any of the other smaller size tarp green houses we have tried over the years though 😁.

Loved the thumbnail, "secure pop up greenhouse" showing AG with wind blown hair and greenhouse tilted on its side. This feels so familiar to my own projects. 🤦 I admire your stick-to-itness and your willingness to keep working through the issues. Even though only one small example, this was a great reality check on what bugging out may really be like. 🤷

We r in northern mn by the dakotas. Winds same here. When I saw your video yesterday......I'm like oofta. People here will get the hard ones...but too expensive. Poor people like me will get free storm windows people r throwing out, n put together with 2x4's. Make a lean to like green house off garage or house.

I'm sorry your greenhouse toppled over. We have had some really high winds here too. Anything that is tall seems to catch the wind more easily than something with a lower and flat roof. Hope your solutions work to keep it in place.

Get 4 - T post and a couple of those $1.25 ropes at Dollar Tree. Put 2 t-post on each side and then use the rope strap the greenhouse down tying one one side then throwing over the roof and snug it down to the other t-post. You wouldn't lose floor space that way.

I have a small 4x6 greenhouse and I bought the heaviest duty tent stakes that I could find. I used the stakes to anchor each corner and the sides. That was 2 years ago and it hasn't budged.
@witchofthewildwoods34962 жыл бұрын
We bought a large vinyl popup greenhouse a few years ago and it's done so well against the side of the house that I bought another one a few days ago when I found it on sale. I put the new one out in the garden area between a couple of raised wooden garden beds and staked it with the cheap plastic stakes that were included. That very night we had a windstorm and the whole thing uprooted and blew over, snapping 2 of the poles. My daughter taped the poles back together and moved the greenhouse next to the original one where she connected them together. So far so good, but I do suggest using metal tent stakes or T-posts and ropes like others have recommended.

Hi A.G., I bought one of those put together greenhouses last year, but only have the frame up as a disused car needs to be moved before permanent placement (I use it as a laundry dryer ATM on non-rainy days - nothing like the smell of line-dried laundry freshness). My neigbour helped (it was a 2-person bolt-it-together job) & suggested bolting the plastic feet to the pavement, which would make it more secure. However, since I am living in a sibling's home, I can't do much that is permanent. Also, the best light would actually be parallel to the alley/ fence (sadly, just a makeshift snow fence clipped to rebar, due to $$ constraints, to keep the constant tresspassers out -- we have fruit & veg stolen EVERY YEAR!!). A compromise I thought of would be - in addition to anchoring it the best one can with robust metal stakes/ sandbags or those cement building blocks, to use cut lengths of rebar, bent to resemble a hairpin while heated with a blowtorch, with one side longer than the other and the ends sharpened for ease of pounding into the ground. I had intially thought 3' lengths bent to 1 & 2' sides, but a 4' length bent to 1.5 & 2.5' lengths might be stronger. A handy-man in your town could perhaps do this for you, as you'd need a grinder of some sort as well as a blowtorch/ heat source sufficient to soften the rebar to bend it, and a good sledgehammer to pound those rebar stakes in. These stakes would help to keeep the greenhouse more anchored, and could be pulled-up at season end - or, just leave the frame up in place, and only remove the cover for the winter. Just a suggestion - I haven't actually done this myself yet. Cheers, and Best Wishes!

By the way, this past winter in this tarp greenhouse, we were able to keep alive a dwarf apple tree with just burlap wrapped around the root ball that we were unable to get around to planting last Autumn. It is now planted in the garden and showing new leaf growth. I was pretty impressed and happy about that. 😂😁

Maybe some pool noodles sliced on one side and placed over the supports would keep the metal from damaging the plastic. It is always windy here on our little lake, blowing the furniture around in the pergola and playing havoc with our picnics. A greenhouse would be out of the question unless it was made with wood and glass. Are you reading his hubby??? A greenhouse would be much appreciated. LOL

Grateful for the follow up. I have a couple of these, not as sturdy as yours. I quit using them because of the wind where I live. I will be watching to see if your solutions work out. I would like to go back to using mine if I could find a way to anchor them.

I have used 6 foot rebar, need to put them in at an angle. Mound dirt around the outside also, along with what your doing. Once the rebar is in for 2 months will be very sturdy. Do not remove the rebar, can remove the green house without pulling out the rebar, (only pull rebar out 1 - 2 inches). Had tornado come through, green house was gone, but rebar stayed, put up another green house. Enjoy your video’s

Try inserting the legs into buckets that have been filled with the sand. Make sure you have enough clearance between the leg, (insert close to the outer rim of the bucket), hopefully this will allow enough room for the cover, on the outside of the bucket. If that works, then fill with the sand. Try one bucket for a day or two, to see if that works, if it does, then fill the others.
