Off grid photographer, using portable power station and Solar generator from Bluetti.
As a professional photographer and KZbinr I seem to be using an ever increasing amount of different equipment, often going away on multiple assignment for days at a time. Whether its drones, gimbals, mirrorless cameras or running my laptop and hard drives to edit on the road, these things all need battery power and keeping everything charged up and running can be a challenge, For years I have struggled with this problem and so I started to research a portable and flexible solution..
Attempting to do this in a sustainable green fashion using solar energy rather than relying 100% on the grid would be a welcome bonus
At the same time increasing energy costs and potential black outs over the winter led me to ask the question of whether it might be possible to partly run my studio and charge everything I need in an off grid manner also using as much solar as possible. This started me on a journey of discover! I reached out to Bluetti who agreed to support me in my quest by providing me with the Bluetti EB70 Power Station and PV200 Solar Generator Kit. In this video I share my experiences of using this equipment and talk about how it fits into my life as a professional photographer. and how its making me think about my energy use in lots of other ways..
BLUETTI is a renewable energy company that strives for a sustainable future through high performance all-in-one energy storage solutions for both indoor and outdoor use while delivering an exceptional green experience for our homes and our world.

It would be great if Bluetti could send a whole bunch of these to the Ukraine - they are sorely needed.

This was great - really insightful. I’ve been using a deep cell marine battery plugged into a 1000w pure sine wave inverter to get remote power. This is a lot more elegant: I need to charge my rig with a car battery charger when I’m at home.

Have you thought about mounting a large solar panel to the top of the transporter and having in-built battery storage in the van ? I believe this is becoming more popular.

Hi Adrian. That’s a great solution for the van. My life gets complicated though! I use multiple vehicles and find myself in all sorts of weird situations.. so far a battery pack like this one has been really useful. I do agree though that a vehicle mounted system is well worth considering. Especially one that also charges from the vehicle power system… one day!

It would be awesome if at some point we all have our own portable solar-powered chargers so we can charge all our gizmos for free with little to no environmental damage.

As I progress along the journey of discovery into this world of power stations and solar I do wonder if individually generated power will be a big part of our future. The main issue is that the individual has to engage and think and be mindful of use rather than just expecting a constant never ending supply. I am as guilty as everyone else in using too much energy but I am trying to improve. We will see what the future has in store.

A delightful and useful presentation, thanks! I wasn’t considering this but now am… have you tested the 1400W surge capacity claim? And the slow cooker, I’ve not used one but what a great idea. Could you possibly suggest a model you recommend please.

Thank you! Well our slow cooker is a rather old and battered one that we have had for years.. pretty basic model if I remember. I’m away from home at the moment but will have a look on my return. I didn’t test anything right at the 1400w mark though so cannot comment I’m afraid

@@RoyRiley Hi Roy, I would imagine the surge ability is for equipment that at the initial switch-on the equipment draws a lot more than normal running does. It will depend on the time allowance that the Bluetti will output that amount. It may also be the closer to 1400w (1.4 kW) the demand is the quicker it will trip out. I would imagine that a slow cooker would surge that much as it is a purely resistive load (heating element) vs something that has coils (inductive load). For instance an ac motor normal running demeand can be as low as 20% of the initial surge demand.

That PV200 solar panel would have been good if it was waterproof but it is only water-resistant.

I only tend to use it when the sun is out so not too much of a problem from my perspective.. seems pretty well built so far..as with all things though nothing is ever perfect and most things in life have to be a slight compromise one way or another.
