Portal 2 but it's Celeste

Krzyhau made a mod for Portal 2 speedrunners that includes some interesting challenges, one of which brings all of the mechanics of Celeste to Portal 2. Some time ago, he challenged me to collect every hidden berry, and so I did.

@@vaprin2019 I made the case for golden berries in general. There are a lot more of hard gold berries than easy ones, like 3B or, hell, Farewell for god's sake. Of course 1A Golden is easy, but 0D1A is way easier than the average Golden berry

A custom made level set for this mod that actually more Celeste-ish, ie not just "break Portal with air dashing" since honestly doing portalless stuff does kind of count as breaking, right? Plus could then not have CFG and so more challenge.. and less really dumb/obscure berry spots

I would like to see more celeste mechanics be recreated and put into P2CE. Note: I think dream blocks should be replaced with dream gel, needing anything touching it moving fast enough to phase thru the walls

@@tristenarctician6910 sadly, gels are hardcoded into the game, which means that, in order to have custom gels, you would need to literally partially / fully remake the game *from SCRATCH,* which is also why the beemod devs refuse to create custom gels in their FAQ

@@j.hawkins8779 That's a very misinformed take. You do not have to remake the game from scratch to mod it. Plugins and scripts can easily achieve this behavior, and even then, P2CE developers have access to the source code. The reason BEEMod doesn't do it is because it'd require everyone playing the map to install a custom plugin. Not that it's impossible.

I like the fact that in that one test chamber with the cube flying in the middle that you have to time correctly to pick up, he actually realized you could get stuck if you landed on the middle faith plate, so he added a second trigger_catapult that triggers for players instead of physics props, sending you on a trajectory that prevents you from getting softlocked.

This mod could have some really good custom levels. 2:42 The Quantum Berry concept is cool. Just a couple days ago I found the strawberry at the end of the cleanup portion of the resort chapter, where you have to go back through the entrance and fall down into a hidden room. Now I have all the strawberries in Celeste, excluding the three I'm missing in Core. I'm still working on all the B-sides, but I have the heart gems in all the initial levels (I didn't have to look a couple up sadly).

This video was recommended at the perfect time for me. Two days ago I played Portal for the first time (after letting it rot in my steam account for moths) just because I was a bit frustrated at Celeste (the only game that I have been playing for a long time), I already fished all I could in the game, except for the golden berrys, so I started the golden grind and that made me what to play something different. Finished Portal 2 yesterday so today I went back to the grind, I open KZbin to put some random video in the background so I don't get tired of the same music over and over and over again, and this is the first thing that appears, so of course I click it. You can't imagine the amount of joy that I felt after finally collecting a golden I struggled with for some time and the sound effect for collecting it matching with the same sound in the video. Thanks KZbin algorithm EDIT: (just realized that probably people here aren't that familiarized with Celeste so I'm going to explain some things) In Celeste, golden berrys are berrys that you can only collect after going through an entire chapter without dying a single time, and "the Golden Grind" is a way of saying that you're tying to collect all of them in all of the chapters in the entire game

I'm playing this myself without any Portal 2 speedrunning experience and I can tell you most quantum berries and normal berries are easily obtainable and quite fun! You should give it a shot, don't give up before even trying. (You do need Celeste knowledge though, wallboosts are what help you most of the time)

Though I don't think that character designed for pixelated 2D platformer would look great in much more realistic 3D environment of Portal 2. But most of the time you can't see yourself and one of the playable characters in Portal 2 is literally flat, solid black schematic shape that resembles human, so Madeline should be fine too

Oh, A Short Hike is such a nice experience! Though I don't think modding it into a Source game would do much for it. The original is carried by it's aesthetic, vastly different from Portal / Half-Life. The flying was cool, but as a mechanic only really served as a motivational gate for the long-term objective. That said, who knows. I did really love the game. Might consider it.
