That looks.. amazing. Using the engine, models, lighting, everything. From a game made 11 years ago. The engine 18 years ago now, astonishing. I know it's only small, but seriously! This looks incredible. I wish maps for Portal 2 were all like this.
@herrobriam Жыл бұрын
the engine isn't 18 years old, it's 25 (including goldsource) or roughly 23 - 24 (source, half life 2 beta)
@bpnbeckeroo Жыл бұрын
@@herrobriam goldsrc is just a heavily modified version of the quake engine, where source is built from scratch
@herrobriam Жыл бұрын
@@bpnbeckeroo i know that but it still is similar in alot of ways
@bpnbeckeroo Жыл бұрын
@@herrobriam it's still 2 different engines
@herrobriam Жыл бұрын
@@bpnbeckeroo fair. but it is older than 18 years, as half life 2 was using source engine during its development.

how the hell did you run the map with leaks?
@jofish3669 Жыл бұрын
I compiled it using a cordon around the whole map, which creates a box around the map and hides anything outside it

Those shadows would look cool, but they make absolutely zero sense. The lights are literally on the other side, shadows would be on the ceiling. At the same time railings are brightly lit with big light blobs for no reason. That's just wrong if you look at it for more than a passing glance 🤷♀ It's pretty nice overall, I can see what you were going for, just gotta think through the placement of those underfloor lights a bit better.
@jofish36692 жыл бұрын
Yeah I really _wasn’t_ thinking about it in the heat of the moment, as you can tell 🤣. If I did it again I’d put the light props on the other side of the railing. Wouldn’t make logistic sense but it would make physical sense at least.

You don't use Hammer ++ ? Maybe he can save you a lots of times
@jofish3669 Жыл бұрын
I don’t, no. It has a lot of nice features but I’ve been using Hammer for long enough that I don’t feel like I *need* any of them, and Hammer++ is its own tool with its own problems. I’m more focused on what I make rather than the tools I make it with.
