19/09/23 - Update - some players are not getting full 6 degrees of freedom head control with this mod. I didn’t encounter this but here is the fix. In the mod config txt file change 6DOF from False to True. That should fix it. Have fun! []-)

yes that fixes the 6DOF but then i got another problem: i'm so tall that my head clips throught the ceiling of the bedroom in the new game. any idea on how to fix the height? thanks

I downloaded the mod and put it into files, but it didnt work and when i tried removing the mod now my portal 2 just completely wont open. i tried scanning the files and it said it was all correct

@federicofurlan1906 my problem is that the portal gun model is pretty jank and the aim isn't true. the model is high detauil, but components are in the wrong place, and the View model is used, instead of the World model or a custom one. But seeing everything to scale is super cool. I tried playing with a real portal gun lol but the controller gets in the way unfortunately. Ther are also other minor issues, like low res textures (wasn't made for VR, I know, but still would be nice) and the inability to properly record gameplay Edit: There's also the massive issue that you get the Wacatac Trojan virus if you download this mod, but... It's portal 2 so it's worth it

Just played it for 2 hours, makes me very happy and very sad at the same time. Happy because it's beyond GREAT, sad because one of my best friends who died 3 years ago would have loved this even more then I do. He would go on and on how much he wanted to play portal in VR. His two favourite things combined. R.I.P. Mike Vandenberg!

My friend committed suicide the 6 April 2021. When i play After The Fall and those kind of game, i am happy and sad to. I know how much fun we would have got together. I think the best thing we can think is honoring them by enjoying that for both! R.I.P Samuel Pelchat

I recently ended up replaying all of HL2 and its episodes in VR. Such a great way to replay those games even though I've played them countless times. Actually feeling like you're in those environments that you experienced as a kid is crazy cool. Was curious how they'd manage propelling yourself through portals in VR. They definitely made the right choice immediately changing the camera once you pass through it.

The HL2 vr mods are pretty much the standard for what a VR port SHOULD be. they were done pretty much perfectly. This portal mod has a way to go, but is almost there, which is really cool considering up until a few days ago, best you'd get was vorpex.

I was playing this game for a while, and then I got to the 1st companion cube level. Companion Cubes actually sing you a little tune (the turret song from the end of the game) when you pick them up. I started bawling. I have a really deep connection with Portal, and the nostalgia and finally being able to play this game I adore in VR hit me like a ton of bricks.

You better have strong VR legs cause this will definitely make you motion sick. I have tried it and it is by far one of the coolest mods I have played.

I tried the vr yesterday and it was awesome, but yes i cam only handle so much at one point. Im having one issue where i dont seem to have a full "6DOF" as when i move my head position (like crouching) the whole screen moves with me. If i stand completely still its fine but if i move my body at all it can be disorienting. Does anyone else get that?

You can turn on snap turning in the config file in the VR folder. Snap turning is closer to how we see (saccades) when turning in the real world so it makes you less ill. Weirdly, it's off by default.

Very awesome, and an additional note to add for the setup process, mine was defaulting to 3dof by default, I had to go into the VR folder and open the config file, and change the value for 6dof from false to true.

You can also turn off smooth turning there. (Smooth turning is not how we see the real world so it makes most people sick.)

I hope that this mod once and for all shows that VR motion sickness can be adapted to and studios should just go ahead and create their vision in VR without worrying about some of their potential playerbase feeling ill the first few times.

it can be adapted to but there definetely are people who do have motion sickness they cant really fix vr games should go further with how intense they wanna be but they should be a little lenient atleast

Haven’t played vr in months and it’s weird I’ve had vr for 2 almost 3 years now which is insane how quick time flew but I love vr so much but for some reason keep having random vr phases where I play is for months then don’t but portal vr and basically any valve game vr is always so fun so will definitely be trying

I have been playing vr for around 4 years now and this is the second game to give me motion sickness, the first being half life alyx when the world goes upside down ect, the game looks great and I will adapt to it and get back into the game soon

For anyone wondering how to remove the mod, you'll need to remove the additional launch parameters, as well as delete the "Portal 2\bin\d3d9.dll" file and "Portal 2\portal2_dlc3" folder.

Works great here! I was also able to apply this VR mod to other Portal 2 mods like Portal stories MEL and Portal Reloaded so you can play everything in VR!

Portal 2 have been available in VR for several years. I played it with my Oculus Rift 2 (yes, Rift not Quest). Although back then there weren't any handheld motion-controllers, so I played it on a keyboard.

Portal 1 was the first game I beat after I got my Steam Deck, and this is reminding me that I really need to replay Portal 2. Works with Pico 4 btw. You might have to tilt the headset a couple of times to see the overhead text. Start the game via your PC keyboard. In game press left joy stick down to come off the ceiling. The 'B' button is the action button.

Can this work through Virtual Desktop? I followed all steps and I launched game while viewing my Desktop via Virtual Deskop. All I see is the flat screen of Portal 2.

Right?? I just can't believe it - ports are keeping me alive 😅 I've got a decent rig and things like this keep me going back to VR. I can't believed how well they solved the nausea/disorientation problem, but until Valve delivers on new hardware or a brand new Alyx-like VR experience, I'll keep coming back to these mods 💪. Vertigo 2, though - great original. But I kind of feel like it's PrayDog and Luke Ross who seem to be keeping the PCVR community active while we thirst for those deep, engaging, immersive experiences as unique VR properties to come.
