Yeah, the only thing better than watching cookies getting cut is making them yourself. Both of those Echos were running sooo well, I went and grabbed the 562 and 400. I won't give away which saw was the fastest, but I will say that out of those four saws, the damned Home depot 590 was the most fun to run. It dialed in and tuned up right and the fucker was pulling almost 11K rpm in 20"s of red oak. I literally got that saw for $50 and have less than $150 in it. FUCKING STELLAR!

Tinman says to tune the high jet to the point where it barely 4 strokes when letting up on a cut, if I recall correctly. I have the bone stock Echo PW620 and it rips with a sharp chain.

620 might not be super sporty but I bet it would make an ideal felling saw with that good stall torque it has down low. I’d grab a husky 562 to buck firewood with or cut up storm damage
@mattfleming86

While I don't have a lot of experience running "other" saws you hit the nail on the head. Just a good "general purpose" saw. Very torquey with the basics done to it. I run a 22" on mine and pull an 8 pin in WV hardwoods. That helped a lot with the chain speed. Hickory is the only thing that makes me ease up a little. For 59.x CC they are great.

Interesting take as I have a completely stock 620 but cannot get the 562 out of my head. I have never run one but they seem to run super well. I love my 545 and if the 562 is a 60cc version, I think I would love it!

@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
Didn't feel as crisp either. As you can see in the video, I tried really hard to make them both perfectly tuned, but it's difficult. Especially on the 620. I expect it is mostly because of the 620 needing broken in, but the smaller carb on the 590 would likely also make it more snappy and crisp.

So there is really no good reason to spend the extra cash on a 620 if one was going to have port work done on a 590, unless the handle material and clutch over material mean something?

I'll have to try some higher octane fuel. I know that the 620 coil is even more advanced than the 590 coil even with the advanced key from Matt Robinson. So maybe there's something to all the folks telling me to run a higher octane fuel in the 620.
@mattfleming86

@@novicelumberjack @Novice Lumberjack I run exclusively rec89 in mine BUT only base gasket deleted. It is certainly possible if you dropped the cylinder enough, but you have at least 1 vote for fuel from me. I know that I STRUGGLED getting a good tune on my 620 vs every other saw in my collection. I finally came up with a procedure that worked for me and then serendipity happened.. I ran into a guy named Lokonas in the comment section of one of Oakie Woodsman's videos. He was some kind of fleet saw/equipment manager that issued 620p to a large crew. He confirmed my thoughts and I refined/settled on a procedure. Cliff notes (from one long winded Matt. Sorry) : 620s take a while to warm up. Fan, thermal mass, combustion chamber shape, something. If you tune them cold that tune is going to keep changing- leaner. If you tune them hot they will be rich on the first couple cuts. Per echo's service method dial in the tune "hot." I wait till I have a tree on the ground and make SEVERAL good bucks (8 or 10 maybe) then dial it in to a pretty light 4 stroke WOT. Once it's warm it stops 'chugging' in the cut. That also means its rich till I run it a little. But I no longer find myself "suddenly lean" a few cuts in. Now.. I know you make videos. That's different than what I do. So you might consider tuning it "when it is as hot as you are going to get it" so if you need 4-5 cuts to make a scene/demo.. that's how i'd dial it. Just be aware if you go jab it in Jabba the Oak its going to get lean during that cut and probably too hot by the bottom.

@cajun3197
@cajun3197 Жыл бұрын
@@novicelumberjack that would lose power and you already know how it works. Unfortunately it’s hard to get folks to understand chainsaws don’t need much octane even with high compression due to their nature that you don’t lug them down low like a 4 stroke.
@eurokid83
@eurokid83 Жыл бұрын
@@novicelumberjack what harm is there in trying some 91 octane? Worst case it will confirm a timing adjustment is needed. Or just run premium in that particular saw. What are we talking, 20 or 30 cents more per gallon? 87 may not be sufficient if you’ve raised the compression and are running the 620 coil.
@eurokid83
@eurokid83 Жыл бұрын

Maby he put one of Matt's timing keys in it before the 620 coil🤔 if so, it's almost definitely got too much advance.
@novicelumberjack
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
Hey everyone. I'm definitely following all the suggestions of higher octane for the 620. This definitely deserves a video of it's own. I do not have a timing advance key in the 620, but I have heard that the 620 coil is slightly further advanced even past the 590 with the advanced key. So, maybe a video where I run higher octane fuel and see if it clears up. If it does clear up, what I'll likely do is remove some advance from the 620 coil. I'm okay with losing a small amount of power in order to keep running the 87 octane that ALLLLL of my other saws run. And switching out to a 590 coil wouldn't work because I'd rather have the higher rev limit of the 620 coil.
