Thank you Michael, Great fix since I couldn't find any OEM parts for my Porter Cable Pancake Compressor C2002 "Type 4" compressor. After trying to purchase an OEM Type 4 repair kit for any amount of money, I gave your idea a try. First try failed after using a nut and bolt that was too large to fit inside the handle spring, second try using a smaller bolt and nut fitting inside the spring allowed me to get the cap on without issue. Finding a slight leak I used a glue gun to seal in the same locations as the video. I like like the idea seen below of using a 11/16" O.D. flat rubber sink washer but didn't read that review until I was completed. Re-assembled and installed, now the compressor works great and has no leaks.

Thanks Michael. This video was immensely helpful. I used what I already had laying around my workshop, so the repair was free. Instead of the epoxy, I got lucky and found a grommet that was a snug fit in the hole. I tightened everything down, and it works like a charm. It took me longer to source everything from odds and ends in my workshop than it did to make the actual repair. Thanks again.

I can't believe it...but this actually worked! I didn't even have to use glue to get a seal. I just took the o-ring off the nub that broke off and put it on the bolt to make a seal. Thanks for saving me time, money, and allowing me to finish my job tonight instead of next week.

This ingenious little fix worked on mine. I have had mine for about 5 years so I guess I am lucky it hasn't broken before now. I did not use a sealer but may take it back apart and use some or an O-ring because I do have a small leak. Porter-Cable should have addressed this issue a long time ago. The aftermarket business is probably a good money maker for them. Thanks for the great video Michael.

Hi Michael, Thank you for your video. It saved me both time and money. I've had my C2002 (3) piece combo kit for about two years but I had never taken it out of the box. I Finally got a chance to use it last week. I took it out of the box, read the instructions, set it up, turned it on, filled it with air, hooked up the hose to one of the nailers, turned the regulator knob, and nothing. No air pressure to the tool. ZERO. That's when I headed to KZbin and after watching a few other "fix it" videos I ran across yours and it was the perfect solution. Better than trying to glue the part back together and definitely better than spending $25 on the repair kit just to get that plastic replacement part. I followed your instructions (already had the nuts, washers, and screw) and I was up & running in less than 15 minutes. Thanks again!

Finally got to use mine also. Unlike most other C2002 owners, my compressor came out of the box already broken so I was very upset. Glad I was able to fix it for FREE. On a slightly different subject -- since we both own the same compressor, I wonder if you would answer a question about the air hose. My unit came with the standard 25" foot 1/4" hose. Do you know if I can use a standard 3/8" air hose with this compressor if I use the same 1/4" size fittings that came with the compressor?

I have the identical compressor and ran into the same problem. The knob on mine had stripped and the plastic plunger had cracked. I followed your fix and substituted an RTV coated bolt for the broken plunger, which resolved the leak issue. The type 3 knob on mine is obsolete - offerings on ebay are cylindrical and not cone shaped. I shortened the regulator spring, which allowed use of the unstripped threads further back in the knob. Then I coated the inside of the knob with super glue gel. I reinstalled the knob and let dry. Afterwards I backed the knob out with channel locks, which effectively cut new threads.
@allanwessel60595 жыл бұрын
Thanks for a great video. My problem was the air was leaking out the front of the regulator past the knob that you screw in and out to adjust output pressure. I took it apart and found that the little valve in the back that the plastic disc pushes on was stuck. I pushed on it a couple of times with a screw driver and it popped free. Added a little light oil and put together and works great.

What I did was apply a dab of white lithium berring grease and its back in action. Be sure to bleed down the tank or stuff will fly out under pressure at a very high rate of speed. And do not look up the valve taking it apart not without safety glasses and a face shield. Or you'll suffer serious injury or put at eye out.

Michael, sure was glad to find your video! My son's Porter Cable has exactly this problem... so it's mine to repair. : >) I don't claim to know how the regulator works, but the plastic piece that breaks off has a pilot hole through its center. Looks like it's intended to provide some air into the front chamber, maybe when the adjustment knob is backed out. Obviously the screw doesn't do that, so wondered - If the plastic piece is sealed tight, did it still regulate normally? Thanks for any insight!
@mbakker19695 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul. Mine didn't seem to have any pilot hole through the center. From the looks that mine had, no air should be going out to the front chamber. If it did, the air pressure wouldn't hold in my opinion. You can test it out pretty simply without using any epoxy. You can also use a rubber washer under the nut instead as others have done with success without using epoxy. I would give it a try and see if it fixes the situation. I did that as I didn't have anything to lose trying it out. Hope the fix works for you. Michael
