Did this remake have the original animator involved? It looks like you guys shed a lot of Sykosan's motion in favor of minor animation, chopped cycles and still frames. I'd have to say I prefer the original, fully animated version. Sykosan has a simple style but puts a lot of subtle detail into their animations. Plus, the original intent was to have a contrast between the character and the backgrounds. I do like the repainting on the top-down version of the girl looking up, and the still jump painting later in, the style and slightly more realistic appearance is nice, but that's about it. The others look like badly smudged oil paints with color mixing that wasn't planned well enough. The part where she jumps from island to island is indistinguishable now. You can't even tell what she's doing. Having her look up between sequences in the beginning rather than just a close up of her breathing, than going back to the far shot makes no visual sense. It would have been better to have extended the far shot than have her look up with no cycle back to the long shot. That translates better into the idea of her getting up and moving on. The palette has no pop anymore. Too much grey was added to the colors on the girl, making her look washed out and dull. There are parts as well where the background was not fully filled back in/white background on the figure was not fully removed (second standing on cliff phase), leaving a highly noticeable white spot in the transition.
