10 years ago, he was making this, "banger", "dumb" music, that is somehow some of the best of this genre (I'm only hearing these now). This and Easy and Language. He was making very very electronic "hits", dubstep, house, and they still sounded amazing. You can hear his true artistic self coming out even in these, but there's a huge amount of him trying to conform to normal EDM (though, VERY creatively and well.) 6 years ago, he created the greatest album, the masterpiece that is WORLDS. I don't even have words for this album, if you've heard it you know. But it's like he completely stopped caring about music making tropes and just, MADE music. And, what we got is something that is more standout than any other music out there. 4 years ago, he worked on Shelter. It's beautiful. What can I say? Every note is intentional and beautiful. 3 years ago, he decided to create and alias named Virtual Self, where he could just experiment and run with the lack of inspiration he was experiencing. (again, just hearing this now, but wow.) He mixed early 2000's EDM music that was just becoming existent, and made it his own. It sounds so old school, while being nicely familiar. what we got was, well, unique. It's nothing like Worlds, but it's so creative and very free, as his only constraints were "be weird". If you wanna go DEEP into Porter's music or Electronic Music in general, go listen. Such a beautiful genre we have. Finally, the sequel to Worlds, his second album ever, NURTURE, came to be, and was released earlier this year (for you people in the future, 2021). He flipped edm on it's head. The album is beautiful, emotional, and really just let's Porter release his soul in audio form. It's creative and 10/10 production, while...hardly being what normal people would consider electronic. There are no dubstep wobbles, no 808's, no house drops, just pure, unhindered, creative, beautiful MUSIC. And it's so connected to the story it's telling. An artist who finally sees the world for it's beauty. Where Worlds escapes, Nurture embraces reality. And it's beautiful. Every song this man makes is art. This EP shows so much artist potential, that we soon get to see. If you don't settle for just doing what's easy or popular, you might create "something good, oh, something good". (btw, this EP is insanely cool) WORLDS shows us where music (not just electronic music) can go. It's the closest to heaven music has ever taken me in of itself, and wow, everything about it is the best, EVER. I can't really praise it in just one paragraph, but it's just showing how you can use a genre as a filter for whatever you are to create. Virtual self shows how to be experimental. Not a lot to talk about, but it's very interesting and I like it. Go listen. Nurture shows healing. It lets go of its genre and just soars on its composition. It's transforming. It started with dubstep. it ended, with the masterpiece that is Nurture. The healing music that we love. Thanks Porter.

George David I have listened to Worlds before and the Worlds Live edits of these songs. I still think "The Seconds" is one of the best songs from Porter. What a shame it wasn't in the "canon."
@aulodian-ix6 жыл бұрын
His “canon” is what he considers his best works, he isn’t by any means “disowning” his previous works, and likely still holds much of it dear. This song is no exception. If he didn’t think much of it, there likely never would’ve been a Worlds version. For example, he has stated he still plays songs he declared “non-canonical”. Lionhearted is one of his most popular songs, Natural Light is still a huge part of his Worlds set, and Say My Name was his first ever “official” track that set him on his path. Polygon Dust is still forgotten, though.

Exactly! I mean the huge reason that I like Heatbeat, W&W and Arty is because they always kept loyal to their sounds. IT's not like all these producers that used to produce really chill uplifting trance, and all of a sudden they jump into the house bandwagon because it's blowing up. I saw Heatbeat live in 2008 (they were literally just starting) and their essence hasn't change.

Their music is great, I hate how people bag on bands or j's they don't like. If they don't like it then they shouldn't listen. Those who flick off the great Dj's and singers, etc. they have a life and you don't. So respect those who try to make their fans happy!!!!

Every person should be using the DAW they're most comfortable with. Don't be afraid to try all the different DAWs out there, but whatever you're most comfortable and at home with is what's important. If the music sounds good, it doesn't matter where the musical incubation occurred.

No, it's just called listening to mass amounts of Electronica and House music to know the difference. One could also argue that Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy are both metal bands with his train of thought in mind.

Can we just stop hating on all of the producers? Everyone has their own tastes. I just love electronic music, no matter what sub genre. Look your entitled to your opinion just don't go around trying to piss people off on youtube. Just stop acting like your 12 and grow up.
