The song, as Porter Robinson said himself: Fresh Static Snow to me, is about this idea that I was really obsessed with my loneliness. About this idea that there necessarily exists a best, romantic partner for every person in the world, somewhere out there. There are billions of people out there and you will only meet a fraction of them, and to me the likely hood that you’ll ever meet a person that will make you that happy is infinitesimal. There’s a very small chance. If you really consider the idea that, that person is out there, exist and is walking, eating their breakfast cereal, looking all cute. And the notion that you will never know each other, made me really sad. And this song was me dedicating something to whoever that person is. Maybe they’ll hear it, how fucking cool will that be?

Alot of Porter Robinson's songs make me think of an apocalypse from the point of view of an optimist.

I kinda think it's probably from an android's point of view, as well. After all, there are a lot of glitch effects, the voices tend to be semi-robotic, and there's a good deal of "mechanical" talk.

I don't know why, but I always skip this song when I hear the beginning while going through my playlist. I guess I always think it's a track from Spore/Noisia which I am not in the mood for. Now I fully listened to it while working. The middle is so amazingly strong and heavy. It reminds me a bit of Daft Punk's Discovery album. Love it!

I remember my friend showed me Shelter, and she used my account to look up the video and watch it. So, after a few weeks, KZbin started recommending this person called Porter Robinson to me. I had forgotten about Shelter and wondered why the algorithm thought I'd like this random person I'd never listened to before. So, for a few weeks, I didn't click on his videos. But finally I caved of curiosity. I think I clicked on Goodbye To a World first. I listened to all of his music within the next two hours. Thank you KZbin.

The fact that the meaning of this song for Porter was about the search for that perfect person makes it even sadder for me. I had a best friend and she was my perfect person. It was the first one that I could felt something really special when I was with her. We ended up being best friends and we where very happy. I still remember we talked every night and it makes me want to cry because we stopped being friends because of a stupid problem. Always value your friends because you don't know when it may be the last time you write that one last message.

I know this song is probably about wishing the best for friends you'll never meet, but to me it sounds kinda like it's about a dying patient with dementia?? Let me explain- -"though I'll never know your name, I'll cry for you the same" = the person with dementia forgetting a friend and/or family member's name and feeling sad for that loved one that's sad about being forgotten/unrecognizable -"melt this curse away"= "stay with me and try to trigger my old memories so I can feel like I used to" -"static snow"= the glitchiness of their memories -the distorted voices sound like sounds a dying brain hears I know this is a terribly depressing take on the song (especially for someone like me who's had family members that have suffered from dementia) but in a way it's also comforting because it's as if it's saying, "They don't remember you, but their love for you is eternal."

@Awesome me I agree with what you said except for the end, just because certain songs don’t have as much effort put into them doesn’t mean that they are totally garbage, some people just have different music tastes and because they listen to that kind of music doesn’t mean they are less intelligent or anything. This is coming from a person who listens to Porter Robinson and Deadmau5 along with hip hop songs like sicko mode

All of Porter's songs have such beautiful ideas within them. I found Porter through Mirror, which, aside from being a really catchy song, has some lyrics that make you think. At first, most of the songs from Worlds didn't resonate with me, so I just stuck to what he had already released of Nurture. Now I'm going back to look at Worlds and I'm not sure I can think of a song that so exactly expresses thoughts I've had as Fresh Static Snow. I'll probably never know the person I can truly connect with, so all I can do is silently wonder and wish the best for them from however far away...
