She is not alone because of you. Also, if it interests you, I'm the author of presumably the only Shelter fanfiction still in progress (please tell me if there is another). It's called Shelter: Heart of Promise and it continues Rin's story laid out by the animation, guided by careful examination and research of the original story. I have been working on it for 6 years and have reached 159 chapters, with plenty more still on the way. With that said, it's a very long read, so I've decided to summarize the story into a single paragraph in case you wanted to know what the story was about without needing to read the whole thing. Rin's vessel was eventually discovered and picked up by an individual known as Director Kaeru, who was formerly Shigeru's apprentice. She is taken back to Niyoake, the civilization on a distant planet where the Japanese people fled to long before the disaster of Earth. Within this civilization, a majority of the citizens live in a simulation almost identical to Rin's Shelter, referred to as The World. Being the author of both simulations, Shigeru sabotaged The World so that the coding could not be changed, before being left on Earth. Having witnessed Rin's capability to "create", Director Kaeru feared that Rin would be taken and forced to do the government's bidding should she or her authorization to manipulate The World's coding be discovered. He does his best to hide her from the Emperor's subordinate's ever searching eyes and give Rin a chance to live a normal life. Rin, on the other hand, yearns for the distant horizon and wants to learn the truth about her past and her father and carve out her own destiny. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!

I'm a single child of a single mom. She died recently. I can't begin to describe how this video feels so much like my situation. Knowing how much she did for me through my life, how much she gave just to make me happy. Being in the home we spent so much time together in, surrounded by the decorations and furniture she liked. The things she put up when I was a small child. The way she organized my books or games. Going downstairs where grandma used to read and watch TV in her room, inviting me to come in. The way to the kitchen where her workstation sits collecting dust, where she spent so much time grading and looking after her students. The garage where that stupid cherry red chair sits, the place she used to enjoy having her morning-afternoon coffee and a brief smoke that I simply can't find myself to move now. Now it's so peacefully quiet, lights that used to be on at night are off. The quiet din of a TV no longer buzzing at night. That small fake-Christmas tree we got standing quietly in the corner, a marker of our last Holiday together. She built an entire home for me, gave me so many endlessly great Birthdays. Brought together so many of my friends every year. Some days I don't think of it, I just work or play quietly. But others I remember every wonderful moment, and for all the tears it brings I can't help but feel loved. Thank you, Mom.

It’s late 2016. I was in my anime era for almost 2 years, and I stumbled across this when it was new. I enjoyed watching it and I liked the character, Rin.
