Thanks for all your videos. Love watching them. Llanfair beach between Harlech and Barmouth town by the coast.. is a lovely long beach. Years ago there was a little Welsh chapel sinking in the sands amongst the spiky grass. Also you can see an inlet called ..Shell island .. where shells were collected to make figurines to sell in Harlech local shops at one time.😂 I have many memories of Snowdonia area, North Wales.

Porthmadog=Port (or Porth) Maddock, Ffestiniog= Fest In eeyog; Beddgelert=Beth Gelert (you must visit the grave of the brave hound Gelert) , Blaenau Ffestiniog= Blye Nye,(or Blyna)Festiniog as before; Criccieth=Crickuth; Abersoch=Abersock; Black Rock Sands=Morfa Bychan=Morva Buckan. Hope this helps-I'm English but if anybody Welsh is reading this I'm quite happy to be corrected.

My Dad was born on a farm near Porthmadog and we went on holiday their every year as kids, he and relatives who still live there always pronounced it "Porth_Mad_og" with either a slight "g" sound on the end "Mad og" or a slight "c" sound "Mad uc" either will suffice

@@exploringthenorth The Farm my Dad grew up on in the 1940's overlooked Portmeirion just up the estuary from PorthMadog, another highly recommended place to visit. We always stopped at a pub / hotel which my Dads mate owned called the Oakeley Arms in maentwrog just up the river from Porthmadog. Not far from another must see location the hydroelectric dam at Tanygrisiau, above the dam is a third lake Llyn Cwmorthin, with ghostly abandoned slate mining village, Snowdonia in general is a magical place to visit.

Yeah my wife really wants to visit Portmeirion next time we visit, it’s supposed to be like a little Italian village in wales i think isn’t it. We were only in the area for a weekend though and with a £50 entrance fee to the village (for our family of 4) we thought we should research it a bit more before going there. Definitely on the list and will check out those other places you mentioned 😊 Thanks so much for sharing your insider knowledge 😁

Try to use the local shops. A trip to Tesco just sends all the money out of the community to London.

Why have you brought race into it?. The town is friendly for EVERYBODY, why don't you go there to see for yourself.

We walked around Porth a couple of years ago, but despite keeping a sharp lookout, never encountered a madog. Just unlucky, I reckon.

I was told later in the day that the locals simply call it Porth. Knowing that would have made life much easier in the video 😅

@@exploringthenorth only for locals watching which I suspect are not your target audience! ;-) It is only known as Porth by people in the immediately adjacent settlements like Criccieth, Tremadog, Penrhyndeadraeth, Harlech etc anyone a bit further away will use the full name to distinguish it from all the other places that also get shortened to Porth by their locals! ;-)
