4 years to make the album. it is quite obvious that no one else controls the portishead machine except themselves. i cant say the same about other people that make music.

Why do things from 2008 now look like 1988. I was there in that time. Video wasn't that crappy then... was it?

I'm not at all sure what other commoners, affluent and/or afficionados consider modern day musical genius, but it's quite clear to me that Reznor, Utley, Chemical Brothers, Dan the automator and Dj Muggs are the modern day virtuosos when it comes to production and perfection.

that stuff about the creative process, being stuck, aiming for a particular thing, this is what i love to hear about in interviews it’s inspiring and shows sometimes it’s a slog from one end to the other. not some magical five minute song that wrote itself

Utely is a real MUSO !! He is really 'tuned in'. Interesting comments on 'Dirty Harry' and he obviously knows what he wants and what he is looking for. Seems like a top guy all round !!

So where did Portishead get their Darkness from ? well I know that the year before their debut ablum and ours ( both albums released in 1994 ) Geoff was really into Black Sunday by Cypress Hill, they were using our studio in Bristol a lot at the time ( which they went on to co-own ) so our paths crossed often and we were working on our music which was really dark Gothic Rock/Metal often with horror filmscore style keyboards in it to, I reckon that some of that darkness must have rubbed off on `em, heh heh

I always love when musicians come across as any person you could run into at Guitar Center. He seems like such a normal guy. Agreed about the interviewer...too bad so many of them out there just want their chance to meet the stars, with no thought given to actually making a connection between themselves, the artists, and the audience.

@kyuss Directly. Some Like the VC3 for example will be a Single Jack as it's a Mono Poly Synth. But they All have Jack outs. But the Last Time I saw one of those sell, it went for £7,000. EMS are Even Better than Moog.. And they were Beofre aswel. Some may say it's the Key to Portisheads Sound. There's nothing else like it, & nothing else that has Not Patch Cables, but Patch "Pins"! I've Studied! Sorry! Fawning arn't I! But yeh, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop used1 a LOT! Not4 the DW theme tho.
