This movie barely scratched the surface. They kept the Teamster's name out of it but that was the union that was corrupt. Bobby Kennedy actually came to Portland and brought them down. He was the chief counsel for Sen.McClellen's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. As US Attorney General in his brother's administration a few years later he was able to get Jimmie Hoffa thrown into prison. My grandmother hated the Kennedys after that, as she worked for a cannery in N. Portland and was a Teamster member. She refused to believe they were corrupt.

You wonder if that was a reason for RFK losing the Oregon primary in '68,the only one that the Kennedys ever lost-until Teddy in 1980.

Really wasn't as one sided as that. RFK was an elitist and grandstanded quite a bit. He'd been working for Jos McCarthy before that. Hoffa was corrupt, but did leverage power on behalf of his union.

There was an earlier film about tackling mob corruption and gambling in a town in Alabama, too. Must have been a theme in the 1950's. That town catered to the soldiers who came over from Fort Benning in South Georgia.

Fair little "B" film, does okay with a small budget. Carolyn Craig who played daughter Ruthie later killed herself. No disrespect, but all you viewers out there who think every old black and white film is automatically a classic because it was made in the "good old days", you need to take a course in film appreciation or at least read a book on the subject. It's like someone who knows nothing about baseball who attends a game with two .500 teams equating them to the 1927 Yankees. Cinema buffs cringe in embarrassment when you make such remarks. The actors in this film would say the same thing, it's a okay "B" flick, nothing more, because they know their art.
