I lived in Portland (actually Vancouver, USA) back in the '80s, and I loved to wander around downtown. The one way street and small blocks made for a lot of nooks and crannies to explore. Everytime I went down there I'd see something new, and I met a lot very interesting people.

Thank you so much for your video. I’m living in Tennessee and I’m missing Portland IMMENSELY!!!! I lived 20 minutes East of Portland for 15 years. I left in 2021. You have given me hope to return. I imagined downtown in worst condition. 😊👍 I have lived in Ca., Idaho, Arizona, Tennessee, in my opinion NOTHING BEATS OREGON!!

we also have a fondness for Oregon, as we lived there in the past as well. I imagined downtown worse based on what I had heard. There is still a homeless problem, as with many cities, but the area we walked around in was ok :-)

Portland feels like a much more pleasant, calm city compared to most American cities (though I've only been to NYC and Pittsburgh, so don't have a lot to compare) - great video tour! That book shop looked insane, could have easily spent days getting lost in there.

We haven't made it to Portland yet (or anywhere in the state of Oregon for that matter). It was cool to kind of get a feel for parts of the downtown area as you walked. There's still a high office vacancy rate and percentage of remote workers after the pandemic and protests. That's why you see little foot traffic on the streets in this video. This is true for a lot of downtowns in large cities around the country.

Downtown has gotten much better, graffiti is still an issue the city has finally craved money to clean up, the tents have been mostly cleaned up except around old town, and some areas on the east side is still challenging. I think the major issue right now is bringing people and business back downtown and to those famous neighborhoods like missippi, alberta, hawthorn, 23rd, etc.

Sorry you are disappointed. I had heard how bad it had gotten and I was honestly surprised it was not as bad as I was expecting. There was no agenda, I was honestly just walking from our hotel to PSU then back to Powells, and that is what we saw. He did cross some homeless and a tent on the street at the end on Broadway and Burnside. I’m sure there are worse areas and of course areas by the freeway were rough but we were not walking there. Thanks for taking the time to check it out and comment.

@@bhuvanordhruv Well, my eldest nephew was there in Jan/Feb and he said he felt as if he'd visited the worlds largest open air drug market, cops basically ineffectual and/or numb to it. He said it was sad b/c it used to be one of our cleanest cities and a lot of peoples favorite US city and this video could've been shot in the early 2000's. I've never been there, but I've been to Seattle several times and LOVED it - it would break my heart today from what we see/read/hear.

I'm not from there, but I've seen in the news that Portland passed a law about a month ago outlawing sidewalk tent camping if there is shelter space available. The videos I've seen since from other youtubers seem like this has gone a long way already in a short time. Seeing as this video is only 2 weeks old, it's gotta be a pretty accurate representation.
