In Portland/Multnomah county we have key people in place and will hopefully elect more in the general. (Jessie Burke most notably.) We still have the issue of charter reform to deal with which is gonna be a disaster. And secessionist: Southern Oregon and Northern California want to get together and create the State of Jefferson (automatic 2 extra GOP-safe seats in the US Senate) and Eastern Oregon wants to become part of "Greater Idaho" (which would possibly force a mid-Census redistricting of Congressional seats). Yet to be honest, they should allow Eastern Washington State to join Idaho, split NoVa (Northern Virginia) from Virginia and boot the remaining parts of Oregon and Washington State from the US (akin to Malaysia kicking Singapore out of that federation in 1965).

I live in Portland. Yay for the new DA. Hopefully we can get some positive things happening again for this once great small city. I decided I hated every human in Portland during the pandemic with the “mask Nazis” at your local meat market to pharmacy. I thought, how can I live in a city full of these crazy horrible neighbors and vaccine pushers? Where are my nice friendly neighbors? Well, they’re back now that they don’t feel the need to police the rest of us for not wearing face diapers. But, I can’t unknow what I learned about the people here. I live in Portland from 2006-2010. Left when I saw what was coming. I guarantee you nothing will change with this new "Republican" DA. It just won't. People in the PNW are too soy.

That's where I was born and my Grandmother lived until she passed away a few years ago. I still have other family living in that area. I know just from my mother's experience visiting there a little while ago that things are really bad there with countless homelessness encampments many being veterans like myself. I really hope this starts making some improvement in making positive changes for that entire city, because that DA was totally incompotent and honestly should be criminally charged for neglience in performing his duty as a servant of the public's trust.

I live in the Portland metro area, the vibe is certainly nostalgia for the Portland from 10-15 years ago. There was once a time we won an award for cleanest city in the US in 2009, that city is unrecognisable now. Nobody is turning red by any means, but this current kick of woke BS from 2016 onwards has visibly ruined our city and the people know we are a laughing stock rather than a positive influence. It’s much closer to a shift back to neolib/more center left policies rather than a major structural change in the political structure.

I don't know how anything can change when the people who made the policies that destroyed Portland will never admit they were wrong! Neither will the voters. I agree the judicial system needed an overhaul, but this isn't it. Everything always has to be so extreme! They institute extreme changes without having a new system ready and in place to manage the negative impacts, then lie about their "success" as everything around us crumbles to the ground! For example huge funding of mental health facilities and services for teens with behavioral problems, but they're hell holes! Progressive Dem politicians are very smug about how much better they are than conservative folks, point to the funding of mental health services, but the kids are abused and violent teens there physically abuse other patients and staff! Nurses who really cared about those kids had to quit. They're short-staffed, overworked and no one listens to their complaints, no oversight and it keeps getting worse. I would compare it to the safe injection sites they have in Toronto, they aren't safe! They look like a combination crack house and homeless shelter. Journalists went in with hidden cameras! People just laying half-dead on a filthy floor and it didn't appear that anyone was there to make sure they didn't OD. A man was patting down an unconscious man to see what he could steal. Seeing that I understood why people would rather be in a tent, it's probably safer.

The plight of the working class got completely co-opted by wokeism. Bernie's campaign in 2016 was pure economics which I absolutely agree with. Then in 2020 he pivoted hard towards wokeism. His movement was obviously hijacked and he doesn't seem to understand it even happened. People are still snapping out of that fever dream, glad to see Portland come to it's senses.

In the 70's when i moved there, portland was voted best city in the US to live in. Sad to see what it has become. Even then, there was a lot of petty crime. 30 yrs ago, i moved to oklahoma, and i am so thankful! In the 20 something years i lived in my hiuse, not had any petty crime in my neighborhood
