Porto Palermo Summer 2020 - 🇦🇱 Albania

Porto Palermo Tunnel is claimed to be a submarine bunker built in the Socialist People's Republic of Albania during the rule of leader Enver Hoxha. It is situated at the northern end of the bay of Porto Palermo. It is no longer in use as such, but remains in a military restriction zone.

"However, Porto Palermo had been an ancient Illyrian port-town named Palermon and it served the fortified city of Himarë the area around Himara was inhabited by Illyrian -Chaonians before the 5th c. BCE. Palermon is also mentioned by Strabo and by Ptolemy. Most likely, Palermon was renamed to Porto Palermo during the Eastern Roman empire era (perhaps by people from Palermo, Sicily). The original name of Palermo in Sicily was also Palermon in the ancient times and it was given by ancient Illyrian tribe of Mesaplici (Mesaplikët)".
