Thanks for the video. I am in Portugal and the rental prices have skyrocketed. For ie: furnished apt. 900 Euros/mo in Braga - not in the center (all inclus.) for a 1 bedroom apt. As well, meals in Porto for lunch are around 15Euros (that was a fish meal near the train station in a local resto - not a tourist area). Prices are higher in Portugal - it's thought of as an inexpensive place, however, like all over the world inflation is having a massive effect on things. And people have raised their prices quite a bit over the past year.

If your planning on coming here to live on 1500€ a month rent alone has gone up in most cases 20%. If you go by his grocery hall him and his wife are eating for under 8€ a day. You can't even do that in Thailand. As for internet T.V & phone package that is still duable at 72 euro at Meo. Metro for 10 tickets 1 free 12€ . Yes eating out in Porto can be very inexpensive. But it can also cost and raise your budget through the roof. Living on this kind of money in Porto now a days your looking for a fairly hard life. I spent over a year researching our 9-month move to Portugal and Eastern Europe (to efficiently use the Schengen Visa). With the Ukraine War, subsequent elevator shaft drop of stocks and our investment portfolio, and unknowns about water, refugees, and financial situations, we decided to change out Europe plans. Still working in the US (spending $4500 per month, not $1500) and reformulating other options for the moment. It seems like so many Americans and other nationalities descended on Portugal this year. We decided to let the hype die down a bit. We might try again in 2024, after things settle down. Greece, Croatia, rural France and other areas are also calling to us.

Agree with you 100%, was recently (Nov / Dec) in Portugal and visited Madeira, Lisbon and Porto. Definitely felt the inflation price hit and average meal at restaurant with a beer was easily in the $20 range. The air BnBs were another way too pricey item and overall wouldn't call it a cheap place to live like people say. If you are a retiree on Medicare and get a decent SS income with a house paid off USA isn't bad.

Wow, I thought Portugal was a less expensive country. I retired in Greece. For my internet/landline pkg I pay €64 for two months. My electricity is billed every three months, about €100. And water is billed every six months, about €50. I keep hearing about Americans moving to Portugal to retire because of the low rents & utilities. Perhaps they need to check out Greece??

Current 2024 rent levels far exceed the info in this video. No one is paying €750 per month in walkable Porto, possibly 3-4 miles out of city center, which then will increase your transportation cost as well. Also, you won’t find a liter of Super Bock anywhere for €2

The apartment looks a bit old but still, 750 euros per month in 2023 looks like a great deal if it is in a good area. There are social housing areas (bairros sociais) where rents are cheaper but you do not want to live there as an expat. A 60 euros electricity per month is if you do not heat in the winter. As a retiree, you may want to heat which can get you up to 90-100 euros per month on average. I would include cleaning and personal hygiene expenses which are probably 100 euros per month for two at least. I would not include restaurants as they are unnecessary expenses. I think 250 euros for groceries is a bit conservative. So, I would say 1500 euros per month is accurate for two in Porto just for necessary needs in an ok neighbor. This does not include eating out, vacations, and unexpected expenses. So, retirement savings or additional income is needed to live comfortably and not worry about money. I would say 2500-3000 euros per month, including a 500-1000 euros emergency fund, is needed to live comfortably in Porto without worrying about money. For a single person, that would be 2000-2500 euros per month.

I rented an apartment from a small real estate agency and after giving my move out date, I came back to the apartment to find that I was being robbed by the real estate agent. When I tried to call the police and intervene, I was attacked. This may be more common than known because the police department was relatively unconcerned. They seemed bothered that they would have to write out a report. Do you have suggestions on how to get results from such issues. I was told nothing will be done and I will never get any of the stolen money back much less any other loss such as stolen phone, etc.

Black Friday actually starts in late October here in Portugal. It runs until the Christmas sales kick in. Then we have the Winter sales from January through February. We were surprised when we saw it at Worten and took advantage for 23% off.

Not at all, the cheapest countries in Europe will still cost more than the group you’re asking about. This said the cheapest countries in Europe are Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Poland, and Romania, we can also include Turkey. Unfortunately one of our favorite destinations that had a low cost is Ukraine which for obvious reasons should now be avoided.

Guys, I'm back in the States of Dysneyland of lalala, and this video is like a slap in the face with those prices. I was deppressed, and now I'm worse after watching this vid, thanks Warren! I was looking at hotel prices in Gatlinburg TN. $100-$200 a night, for an average hotel with entitled owners (and it's not just one, it's pretty much all of them acting like this). Another $100 in gas (prob more). Another $50-80 in food (to be conservative). To heeeeck!!! I'm moving to Europe! I'm sure I can make it with $500-800 a month or less, if I'm careful. Your TN prices are about half of what we pay here in rural Washington state. Our local hotel is $399 a night all summer long. We pay $1400 a month for a one bedroom loft in a tiny little no-services town. $100 a month on cell phones for two. $480 a month for gas. Malaysia is looking good.
