I hope you enjoy this time lapse video of an oil painting portrait I did of Alex Honnold. This allows you to see how I paint a portrait step by step. I have always felt watching an artist paint is one of the best ways to learn the process. It is paired with The 9th Symphony by Beethoven. So sit back, relax, listen to some good music that will make you smarter while learning how to paint a portrait.

Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" in my new home of Sarasota Florida.

Alex! One of my personal heroes; I'm surprised I haven't seen more work of him, but this is the first I've seen. Fantastic piece. I love the deep, rich texture and color saturation you have going. Very much taking advantage of the medium. You even got the little tousled hair right ;p I love this. -Best of luck on your art and your channel, and much support from one artist to another. Liked and subbed.

You should do more big wall climbers like tommy caldwell - or do some great mountaineers like reinhold messner, because then you'd get an interesting background

Hi, have you been painting this all in one shot or did you first wait for the 'base coat' of the face to dry? I'm afraid some colours would get mixed when they shouldn't if I would do that.. But I'm just a beginner! x) Love your videos & work!

I am not An oil painter (I focus on acrylics more) but in a couple of his videos he has mentioned working thin to thick. Thinning out paint with the odorless paint thinner for the general shapes and stuff first, then once you get into highlights and details add less paint thinner, and let it become thicker. I have no idea if this is helping LOL but I hope it does. I love his videos so much and they have helped me grow so much!
