The golden flesh tones blended with oranges, rose, browns and ochre are beautiful. What a lovely calm and serene model. I would like to master the ability to “conduct” my pastels like an orchestra as you do. That grace is reflected in your marks and is very much like the creation of a piece of music. Thank you for this video. A lot of valuable info. The best tip I learned was in the Part 1 video; To start placing the very dark tones, (In this instance it was her hair), early on, as not doing so can lead to the other colours, (skin tones), not being dark enough. This bit of info is going to be huge for me, an utter epiphany that you have gifted me, as I have made this same mistake repeatedly in the past. Bless you!

Wonderful tutorial! I learned so much about warming up and cooling down skin tones, how to layer multiple colors before worrying about blending, how to make high impact with reflections on the hair in particular, etc. I could go on and on about how much I loved this tutorial. A really fascinating challenge might be to recreate a Degas pastel ,say one of his solo ballerina figures ,or bathers and demonstrate his mechanics of refining a rough drawing to a finished work . Alain, so wonderful, your marks make her a living presence! I enjoyed seeing a comment about your techniques being the "Bible" for Pastels! I have your book Mastering Pastel (2015) and the video of drawing the model on the cover was featured in a video of your I had watched "Portrait Drawing - Dramatic Light & Shadow" but it is no longer on your videos page here on KZbin. I did find it by searching but I was wondering what happened to have it no longer on your KZbin videos page? I like the book as you address more than just portraits. When I saw the image from the video on the front of the book I was hooked and bought it right off the shelf! Keep creating and doing what you do best! Thanks!

first of all, thank you for your wonderful lessons. I wanted to ask if the sharp square pastes you use sometimes are Prismacolor Nupastel or others and if you have a technique for sharpen pastels
