Cesar, perfect video. Interesting that you seemed to not use the construct Loomis or Bridgeman method as you’ve done in the past but sorta dived into the forms. That’s a good tip that we don’t have to always use the same method.

Hi Cesar , you mentioned that u using 150 GSM paper sketchbook, I usually use 80GSM copy paper , and never use better quality paper, as I know, I better use good quality paper for finished drawings , but what about practice ?? I know that each type of paper has different feel when making marks with whatever drawing material I use ,and react differently for erasing mistakes, and blending , so how to get used to this without using good paper until making finished drawing Any advice?

Hi, I have a quick question about the sketching process. When it comes to creating a sketch/drawing, what do you think serves better as a reference, would you use a real person or an image of a person. This is to say, is drawing someone in front of you better than drawing a picture of a person? Why or why not?
@jeffhreid
@jeffhreid 2 жыл бұрын
You may initially find it easier to work from a photographic reference with a single light source which provides distinct light and shadow shapes. A photo is already flattened to 2 dimensions. As your skills increase you may prefer a live model as the 3 dimensional forms provide information that isn’t apparent in a photograph.

Cesar, Thanks for another great vlog! It looks like you all are enjoying the cruise. :D I noticed you hold your pencil completely different than what we're typically taught. Does it help to hold the pencil under like that, rather than resting it on top between your thumb and 1st finger (like taught with handwriting)? Have a Merry Christmas, and enjoy the rest of your journey at sea!

Portraits seem to be mostly a practice like life drawing or any other learning process. Personally it seems inexpressive forms are more common to promote or when you are interested in expressive forms that they have to be cartoons. Which they don't. There are levels around and between these things. There is no right or wrong way or direction, but there is a glut of things which take very typical ones. Personally, my interest is first in capturing the things that I like and if I can do that then it's worth learning how to incorporate that into a skill you'd have less interest in replicating or that would be difficult work just to get a quality result. You do have to do the hard work eventually, but it is not what get's people motivated. Nor does talking about why people aren't motivated something motivational. Point is there are alot of videos I see coming from a direction which just has no interest for me personally and I bet that's true for alot of other artists as well. Telling you to do the most generic or boring thing first as if you need to crawl before you can walk. You can run. You can fly if you want. When I see something I want to copy it's because I am incentivized by qualities I love about it. Often is someone is not capturing part of what inspires them to work it becomes mechanical and devoid of interest. There are places for technicality and procedure and method. Personally I think the best way to inspire anyone is to appeal to what they love enough that the hard work of it is then incentivized. It's how people are. KZbin loves to pretend that there are no artists on their platform. Inspire people, don't just tell them to be robots. It's a shame that to get the things that inspire you, you have to look elsewhere for them when they could be and are where you already are.
