I sailed Wayfarer 247 from Oban to Colonsay and Skye 45 years ago, this brought back some happy memories, great video.

And they are still great boats, glad it reminded you of fun times.

Fantastic video. I’m from N.Ireland but now living in Norway and was recently introduced to a wayfarer by a super friendly guy at my local marina. What a lovely wee boat and when this video popped up in my feed I couldn’t help but miss home and also feel a tad of jealousy for your trip while watching

Hi Marty, don't worry we're keeping the place warm for you, well warmish, OK it's as cold and wet as ever. Wayfarers are fabulous boats, I'd love to own one but using club boats is much more convenient.

Very well done… serious bit of water to cross even in much bigger sailing boats!! I learned to sail in a Wayfarer as a schoolboy 😍

I had a Wayfarer when I was a teenager and loved getting back in one, they are still great boats.

Evolution scientists are still looking for the specific gene poole good old British sailors come from… but they will find. It exists. Thank you so much for sharing this experience. And please note these sailors come from all denominations, educations and age!!!! Congrats

If you ever find yourself in Islay again you might consider sailing to my home island of Jura, it's got some good anchorages (although not as easy as port ellen marina) and a lot of beautiful wild country.
@davidpoots83625 ай бұрын
Jura is one of the places I want to visit. We can see the Paps from here and a longer trip is something we talk about.

If you were going to sail a dinghy from Ireland to Islay a Wayfarer is the one to use. I have done it many times but on my old Contessa 26.

Hi David. Great trip. I notice you’ve got a topping lift on your Wayfarer. I was wondering where it is attached on the mast. Thinking of doing the same on my Wayfarer. Thank you.
@davidpoots83625 ай бұрын
Yes it's simply attached to a padeye riveted to the mast. I was sceptical but it is very useful

And if you believe that share your bank details with me lol (Great line) Fantastic trip, looked like you had a great time 👍👍 I hope people noticed all the safety preparation for the crossing. Even though you had to use the motor a lot on the way back, I'm sure you still loved it. Big kids skimming stones, must be over 50 years since I last did that lol. So next time doing the crossing in a Kayak Right Hehe, I know If I did I would want a Helicopter following me lol
