I remember going to the Lacarno once for a rock n roll night in the mid 70s.

the "wonderful" Harry Redknapp bought the land where Joannas/5th Ave were at 01:00 to turn into luxury flats, when the council said 20% of the build had to be social housing it all mysteriously caught fire...strange that

Was Portsmouth particularly known for Disco clubs or something? If so why?
@londonteecherАй бұрын
@@FrithonaHrududu02127 I wouldn't say it was known any more than any other city, it was just where I discovered Disco and where there were many memorable clubs that attracted an entire community which doesn't seem to be catered for anymore. 'The Early Days Of Disco' is set in Portsmouth and Southampton - the story is an attempt at a comical parallel to Saturday Night Fever.

@@rar321blue of course! Thanks! I remember it as the 'Mecca', where someone asked for Roxy Music at a Black Velvet Jazz/funk evening, didn't go down well. I liked the place, one of Pompey's many great nightclubs of the time.

@@rar321blue thanks! Wish I'd caught it a few years before when the clubs were standing, good to talk to one who was clearly at the epicentre of it all.
