Cancelling Portugal's Golden Visa is not just a scapegoat of rising prices. Relocation companies who managed GV also got their clients to invest part in Arbnb properties. Almost 60% of properties in some areas where rental. That's a bad balance for the local population. It drove thousands of Portuguese out of the main centres. There are no housing programs giving these people a decent opportunity elsewhere. Portugal has suffered a prolonged bout of poverty with no real plan on how to create jobs via industry and not just tourism. The restrictions on the GV was not managed according to the needs of the country.

Also moving from EU country to EU cauntry for longer term or permanently for work is getting harder between citizens of EU. We even have AirBnB pushed and managed by politicians who sprouted out of “nowhere” and they were not voted in (our votes were so rigged by ASU beckwards, Belorussian votes were stellar show of lawfullness compared to my country). But we definitelly see that black rock and their friends try to buy out properties so ordinary people do not have means to get roof over their head even if they spend 60% of salary on housing, not even that is enought. One ordinary salary, that is what you need to pay for one room…so you need to find another person for same room to split costs. But not only private sector is damaged. Our only hospital was bought in 2013 by company penta which is owned by black rock. From that day onwards I did not hear single person say, I got diagnosed and succesfully healed there. I mean broken bones and lacerations, yes. Anything else….nooope. Same with supermarkets, last time we played game, try to quest right name of vegetable or fruit based on the taste (blindfolded)…. These programs are nothing but money transfer from foreigners to real estate agencies and building contractors. At this point, Lisbon is an unlivable place. Foreigners will loose the money invested in RA as new "fashion" lifestyle locations will come up and locals can't buy the properties and foreigners surely won't offer 1.5 m for a 3 bedroom. The bubble has popped. It won't be the in spot for much longer as decent alternatives (as perfectly referred by this video). As a Portuguese I am glad our's stopped (except for rural areas where some stimulus is needed). I do not earn badly but the ENTIRETY of the population is struggling with finding a home. Even renting is close to impossible. It's time to reevaluate priorities. The program was poorly design. Only 0.4% of the applications created jobs. Even hotel rooms were sold to give visas. It'll take probably 5-10 years to return to normal but foreigners will understand that Portugal is not what it seems. Once you're out of the program, you're paying A LOT of taxes like everyone else.

After they’ve past the honeymoon period, they’ll run back to mama USA for medicare healthcare, no waiting list healthcare, and help from their American kids. Sad to say, but most KZbin channels just promote the hater run from the US dribble. A lady I know wanted to see a non government doctor OBGYN in Portugal. Since she didn’t have private health insurance, she had to pay 300 euro. Better or similar to the US system?
@scrillathekid5562 Жыл бұрын
@Charles White In my experience, it depends on the state. I’m familiar with a large hospital on the west coast of Florida that had a flat rate for emergency room care. It was somewhere around $200 and included any tests (imaging or labs) they performed. When I inquired the billing coordinator said it was a business decision the hospital made. They didn’t accept medicaid, so I assume it was cheaper than running a constant receivable. Healthcare in the US is confusing and oftentimes very misunderstood. Many doctors have similar pricing “schemes.” Oftentimes an office visit is simply paying for a physicians time. IMHO many doctors in the US are hourly wage earners, at a somewhat higher rate. If they don’t punch the clock, they don’t get paid.

Previously the Portugal Golden Visa program where you only needed to stay 7 days a year to meet requirements for citizenship included creating jobs. Are they getting rid of that also? I'm an entrepreneur building a company where we will have people everywhere once we secure our final capital raise and I want to know if I still create 10 jobs etc, can I still get through on this? It would not make sense to me if the government got rid of this piece because this is beneficial to Portuguese citizens.

Good. My people have spoken out. I was born in Portugal but lived in US for last 71 of 76 years and wanted to retire my last 10, 15 years in the country: I had no intention of nor the money to buy property that would most like gone to big time property owners. I have read this: "[ ..] the Prime Minister made the following statements: 'Since 2012, our country has granted a total of 11,758 residence permits through the special regime for the Golden Visa. However, our experience over the past 11 years has shown that a special regime for the Golden Visa is unjustified.Therefore, there is no justification for this type of residence permit to continue to be granted under a special regime, and it should be governed by the general law.' " I had a hunch that the majority of these 'visas' would go to buying property and forcing the prices up and, as is very much the case here in the US, denying Portuguese citizens a path to decent housing. However, I was pretty much stunned that only 22 of the permits in job creation. (The same would be/is true here in the US.) Part of this problem is that of the government. Some mechanism should have gone into effect to make sure that a good amount ... the majority of money .. would have been for job creation ... especially in the poorer rural areas. (They were there when I was a little boy and pretty sure there are still many around.) Unfortunately you'll go to some other country (and have done so) only to screw them as well. I have absolutely no tears for your plight.

You have to get a driver's license where you reside. In some places, like Germany, you can simply exchange your state Driver's license for a German license, but not all 50 states have this type of agreement with Germany. @AsusMemopad-us5lk Жыл бұрын
Good point, but going even further... did just 312 people really throw the country's property values off by so much? That seems unlikely. While it is important to keep property values reasonably in line with the rest of an economy, this sounds like Portugal may find that the foreigners weren't the problem. Housing market manipulators were the problem, same as in most modern economies.

I have lived in 2 EU countries as self employed. It's not difficult at all. You just have to prove you make enough money to support yourself. Not really. Most countries require more than 2.5k gross. If net, then yes, it's enough almost everywhere in the EU. But keep in mind people will consider you rich with an income of 3k net or above in the EU outside Germany and France, so you will get resentment, hateful comments for your job, etc
