In the US, you usually don't have to apply to every university separately. Each state often offers a single application for all the state (public) universities in that state. So for example in Texas you complete one application and it will apply to every state (state funded) school in Texas. Private universities are a different situation, though even here many belong to the same system that allows your student to complete one application.

Thank you for watching! Regarding the pre-escolar public schools these aren't mandatory education and it managed by the camera municipal of each location. So it will depend a lot of what that Camera Municipal wants to do. Some have English, Art, Music and Sports. You need to check with the camera municipal to confirm what they offer.

Good news, found more information on it :) yes, there are a national policies for non-native Portuguese, it is called PLMN - Portuguese as a second Language. You need to request the assessment at the school that you choose.

It depends, there are several ways , main one through exam, but if above 23 years is different, and non residents are also a different process, the special process depends on the university

Glad it helped. If you finish the 12 on your home country in theory you should be able to go to university in Portugal. There is some protocols with some countries that help a accessing university but I don’t know the details. The best is to contact the ministério de educação www.dge.mec.pt/contactos

In a português public school all those are in Portuguese. Only other language classes are in that language, example French, English, Spanish etc

Thank you! Regarding autistic kids in Public school the best would be the contact the schools agrupamento in the area you are planning to live and check with them what would be the most suitable public school in that region for an autistic child. I know some public schools have extra resources and special classes for autistic kids. You would need to further research in the area you are planning to live. If its public there shouldn't be additional costs for the parents. Regarding private I don't have enough insights to provide more info there.

My kid will be 12 years old when we arrive. In the US he would enter 7th grade. In PT, is it called Year 8? There is a database of all public/private schools and how they are rated. I didn't really understand how to interpret the results when I was playing with it (is a high number better or worse?). I would love it if you did a video about how to use that database!

Our biggest concern is a 12-year-old arriving with very little Portuguese language ability. Could he do ok at a local school? Our goal is to integrate into Portugal, so attending an international school (speaking English) seems to go against that goal?
