Gosh- its beautiful in Portugal! I tend to stay away from driving and opt for trains. Its more of an added stress to figure out the navigation and parking whereas taking the train is hassle-free. Thanks for the all the travel tips!

European cities are best explored on foot & public transport, and trains for other towns. Car rental is not worth it as parking is a pain anyway.

I’ve been to Portugal 7 times and have really enjoyed it each and every time! Some of my own pointers: 1. Yes, do try the different kinds of Port wine. But also try Dao (dry red wine), Vinho Verde (“green wine”- really a sweet white wine- it’s drunk like pop over there! Madeira (similar to Port, but not as sweet) and Gigingna (cherry liqueur). And the beer is good too- Sagres and Super Bock! 2. (For Catholics): don’t forget to bring home a statue of Our Lady of Fatima- especially if your friends are placing bets on whether or not you’ll get one! 😂 And do visit Fatima too, BTW! 3. Invest in some Vista Alegre 1824 China- beautiful fine china- makes a great souvenir and even impresses the tour guides!😊 4. Don’t become addicted to the local olives (though that may be easier said than done!😂)! 5. Invest in a pair of shoes there. The Portuguese know their shoes- they are some of the most comfortable on the planet!🌍 Which leads to 6. Expect to do a lot of walking in Portugal. Fortunately, many Portuguese towns are made for getting around on foot. You may be sore the first couple of days, but it’s great exercise! 7. Do try to get to at least one beach. The Algarve, the Atlantic coast- they’re beautiful!😊! 8. If you have the money, invest in an Arraiolos carpet. They’re like Persian or Oriental rugs. 9. Attend a Fado concert. Fado is the traditional folk music of Portugal and you get a real taste of the culture that way! Amalia Rodrigues was the top Fado singer of her day and her recordings are still available. 10. Most importantly: do have fun while in Portugal!😊❤

I loved Portugal when I visited in 2022, would love to go back soon! Great video! I do wanna add to the point of being able to speak English with people: in my experience this was true 95% of the time in Lisbon. But outside Lisbon (I went to Coimbra and Porto, and used some local trains), that was more like 50-50 sometimes in my experience. So my advice would be to also learn some stuff beyond yes/no/thanks, like "where is the bathroom", "do you have a table for x people", "can I have the bill" and "what dish/drink would you recommend". Went a long way for me at least, and it's greatly appreciated since you show effort and interest in the culture and language!

Good for you. However, if you have some French, you'll find that a lot of Portuguese people have a decent grasp of that language. This is because they'll have lived in France at some time in their lives or have family there. In some towns in Northern Portugal in the summer you sometimes can't move for cars with French number plates (exiles who have popped home for the summer to see Mom and Dad).

Boy, you just about covered everything in this video.I can only add that I concur with you that Portugal is a great, affordable place to visit. Speaking of the Algarve, there's a reason so many Europeans are there. It's a great place to retire to. Plenty of English speakers there because of so many retired Brits there. It's affordable and warm and the healthcare costs are low.

If you rent a car in Portugal (or anywhere in Europe), bear in mind that most vehicles rented are equipped with manual transmission. And last one from a Portuguese that’s living in Europe: don’t say you could relocate to Portugal. Stupid comment. So the foreigner buying half a million euros houses the cause of the house shortage? As if most portugueses can afford to buy those houses. The real problem is the immigration without control, over 600K immigrants to be legalised in the next three months and the other problem is the lack of social housing’s at affordable rents like many other counties in Europe

@@DarthFurball if the owners bought it with their sacrifice they are entitled to do whatever they want with their properties, it is a State matter and not a private matter. Why don’t you buy a property get a mortgage, pay during 30 or 40 years with interest on the top, pay IMI, tax on the rental income and put it on the market at a very affordable rental rates.
