Sometimes the difference between ser and estar can be confusing for me!

Not so much verbs as verb tenses. I’ve noticed that Portuguese uses a subjunctive tense and also personal infinitive which is weird to me as a learner of Romance languages. Ex: “posso abrir a janela se quiseres.” It’s almost like “I can open the window if you were to want it.“ And then this: “Precisamos tempo para irmos ao aeroporto.” The addition of “mos” to “ir” indicates that WE need to go and not someone else. I’ve never seen this construction in any other language. I’d love to see a segment on the use of the personal infinitive some time, thank! Love ❤️ your videos!!

I'd like to humbly add a small caveat regarding the actual, *spoken* variants of some sentences, since we (the portuguese) tend to simplify imperfects, to avoid sounding *too* formal. So: - "Podias fechar a janela?", for instance, is mostly used in the present, i.e. "Podes fechar a janela?" (and, yes, those can curiously *also* express two different levels of "tu"-formality ("Podias" is more formal) - "O que farias com 10 mil euros? Compraria um carro." absolutely correct, but what you'll actually hear is "O que *fazias* com 10 mil euros? *Comprava* um carro" (and not meaning to add to the confusion, but when using "o que fazias", it is generally spoken as "o que é que fazias...") Sorry, and thank you again for making me realise how confusing my own language can be...

"Saber" means that you have the knowledge about something. Example: "Eu sei que tu estiveste lá ontem." (I know that you were there yesterday.) "Eu sei que o sol é amarelo." (I know that the sun is yellow.) "Conhecer" means that you know something or someone physically. Example: "Eu conheço esta cidade." (I know this city.) "Eu conheço esta pessoa." (I know this person.) Sometimes "conhecer" can also mean "to meet". Example: "Eu conheci uma pessoa ontem." (I met a person yesterday.) Cheers! 👍

o "correto" seria o futuro do pretérito pra qualquer tempo verbal do "conditional". mas na prática é mais simples falar no passado imperfeito. uma simplificação sonora. (eu não sabia que Portugal tb adotava essa simplificação na língua falada, assim como no Brasil). o exemplo mais marcante é EU QUERIA (I'd like to) "com 10 mil eu comprava um carro"

Em francês é 'j'aurais dû' + infinitive' e quero dizer algo semelhante em português (como 'teria debido fazer'). Obrigada por explicar que a estrutura deve ser 'devia ter + particípio passado'.

Would, por vezes, pode ser traduzido por "havia de" e às vezes só pode ser traduzido por "havia de". A tradução de "Why would you do that?" por "Porque farias isso?" é possível, mas na maior partes dos contextos ficaria muito melhor traduzir por "Porque havias de fazer isso?"

"Achar" and "pensar" have almost the exact same meaning. You can use the two verbs in sentences in which you're giving your opinion. Example: "Eu acho que isto é importante." Or "Eu penso que isto é importante." (I think this is important.) In this case, they have the same meaning. However, if you want to say that you're thinking about something or someone, you must use "pensar". Example: "Eu estou a pensar em ti." (I'm thinking about you.) "Eu estou a pensar no meu futuro." (I'm thinking about my future.) "Achar" can also mean a completely different thing, which is "to find". Example: "Eu achei esta caneta." (I found this pen.) Cheers! 👍

Really good video ^-^ Actually helps me understand conditionals better in portuguese! I've recently learned how to say "O que estaz a fezir" (What are you doing) and asked my gf to give simple answers. I managed to ask her mum on a video call while she was making the bed and she replied "A cama" I replied "Ahh the bed!" And in turn, her mum learned the english and repeated "the bed" back to me 😂 It was a really nice moment and it brings me to ask, what other phrases do you think would help? Perhaps one for a video ;)

That is a hard sentence to say, because it includes IF. Because it's unlikely it will happen (it sounds like you DON'T have the time because you said "had") you would need the imperfect subjunctive here. The full sentence would be: Se tivesse tempo, caminharia até (insert place you want to go). Hope that helps!

Gostaria de um café, is not accurate or sounds strange. "gostaria um cafe" or "queria um café " sounds better, means the same. Actually when say "queria" it's past so the.coffee guy can mess with you by asking "queria, ja nao quer?!" 🙂 so normally we reply smilling, "sim quero um cafe!"

Don't put so much emphasis on the "o" of "poder". Portuguese speakers pronounce it more like a short "u" = "oo" in English.
