It would be nice if one of those courses would adress the fact that there's not one way of saying a word. Portuguese from the north is very different from the Portuguese from the south and every region has it's own way of pronouncing a word. My advice is just try to mumble if you say something. For example if you want to say "desculpa" it's better to just mumble and say "deshcup". Point is don't take the pronouncation to serios there no right way to speak Portuguese.

Apparently, learning some things as we get older has a lot to do with our usually laudable habit of trying to understand. This results in internal translation. Getting around this is possible, and results in savant level language learning. Also, perfectionism can be a problem

After more than 25 years in Portugal I have never encountered a situation in which speaking Spanish to a Portuguese was an issue for anyone. Imho this is just a prejudice or an urban legend.
