It was good to hear the Portuguese interaction, listening for me is the toughest skill. I listened with mr eyes closed the first few times to see how many words I could pick up.

It would be nice if one of those courses would adress the fact that there's not one way of saying a word. Portuguese from the north is very different from the Portuguese from the south and every region has it's own way of pronouncing a word. My advice is just try to mumble if you say something. For example if you want to say "desculpa" it's better to just mumble and say "deshcup". Point is don't take the pronouncation to serios there no right way to speak Portuguese.

Very nice video! I love learning slowly the menu list and then the deluge of vocabulary at the end. 😂 👌 Will probably listen to that a few times. Hope Miguel enjoyed the perks of helping you out with this video. ❤ I know too well the feeling of seeing so many amazing sweet concoctions and just wanting something savory though. 😂😂

Apparently, learning some things as we get older has a lot to do with our usually laudable habit of trying to understand. This results in internal translation. Getting around this is possible, and results in savant level language learning. Also, perfectionism can be a problem

The reason we often struggle to understand spoken Portuguese is that there is no standardized form of the language. Educated and uneducated speakers communicate in markedly different ways. Unless you have lived your entire life immersed in this culture, you may frequently find yourself asking people to repeat what they've said. In contrast, languages like English, Spanish, French, and German have established standards, allowing speakers to understand one another despite varying accents. Interestingly, when you learn Brazilian Portuguese, you'll not only acquire the ability to speak like a native but also gain a deeper understanding of the language as it is spoken in everyday contexts. I enjoy your classes still.

After more than 25 years in Portugal I have never encountered a situation in which speaking Spanish to a Portuguese was an issue for anyone. Imho this is just a prejudice or an urban legend.
@TheAlbertso
@TheAlbertso 11 күн бұрын
And you also know exactly what these Portuguese people are thinking when you walk up to them and assume they are fine with you going on in Spanish. A safe prejudice about most people is that they might have a certain pride and/or comfort in their own language. They might also be familiar enough with Portuguese history to know it was subordinate to Spain at one time.
@thomasfraiss
@thomasfraiss 10 күн бұрын
@@TheAlbertso Of course I would not know what Portuguese people think when I walk up to them and assume they are fine with me going on in Spanish. Because I do not speak Spanish. But it seems like you do know, so please enlighten me. People who are familiar with Portuguese history know that Portugal is independant since 1143, and at that time Spain didnt't even exist, so no, Portugal was never "subordinate" to Spain, there was a period between 1580 and 1640 where the king of Spain was also king of Portugal but this personal union didn't change the status of Portugal as an independant country. Again, maybe you know better. You see, most Portuguese understand Spanish, many also speak it, so they don't really care about this BS.
