Ever heard the story about how a bunch of ANZAC's busted a bunch of French Resistance fighters out of prison? And even better, they did it with an airstrike.

Now that you covered the best, you need to do the 2nd best prison break: Castle Itter. Or rather: the only battle of WW2 in which French Prisoners of War, the Austrian resistance, and US soldiers went on to liberate a prison with a single tank. They *also* allied with Wehrmacht prison guards and their command to fight an approaching SS regiment.

That is such a good story, it plays out like what you think an old ww2 movie would be. A castle in the Austrian alps needs to be protected so that the SS don't liquidate the prisoners inside after the suicide of Hitler. The disenfranchised Wehrmacht solders team up with the Americans, that only have one tank, in this attempt to hold onto their honor as soldiers not killers. I am always surprised that there hasn't been more movies of it besides"The Last Battle", its perfect for film!

It's infuriating that KZbin hasn't worked to any end towards some sort of agreement for creators to use Copyrighted music in a user pays / ad hoc basis. Maybe each creator could buy a yearly license for something like $250 USD to be able to use a copyrighted music , and the royalties from which , identified and paid out preportionate to the amount of views. I think the uptake rate would be worth it and lucrative for the artists and record labels alike. But again , KZbin - typical minimal effort from monopolistic crony capitalist woke outfits that only place effort in ensuring their monopoly holds tight.

I love the fact that the Royal New Zealand Air Force roundel prominently features a kiwi bird in the same way that I love how the American libertarian party adopted a porcupine as its mascot. It’s a simple declaration of “Yes, this is who we are, and we don’t give a fuck if any of you think it’s silly.” 👌 Also, after watching this one, I’m kinda dying to see you regale us with the tale of the siege of Castle Itter. And by dying, I mean, where is the place I can throw money at you to achieve this goal?

They are also the only wild animal I know of that can be successfully hunted with a baseball bat, because they are so stupid they don't even run away and seem unable to do what all other animals in Canada have managed, which is learn to fear humans. Could you imagine being in 21 Squadron that day. Those dudes we probably sitting there puking for hours waiting on news about the escape. Jeez Edit: Also I had no idea anything besides explody stuff from WWII was still classified on the allied side. Well I guess since it could give away strategy that we still use in some way it might be too soon to declassify some of the information. Still though, I thought the only thing that we still kept secret was weapon or spy/defectors like operation paperclip and such.

A lot of British stuff gets classified with a 99 year seal. So WW1 is now fully declassified (for the most part), and WW2 will probably get declassified in the 2040s. Logic is that anyone alive when the classified things were done would be dead before they were declassified.

As always, I do love the way you make your videos. Now if you ever want to make a Video about a more wholesome and less heard of story involving military Aviation, you might want to look into something that German Aviators call "Der Fall Jessica" (Case Jessica). Its a story from January 22nd 1982 about a German fighter pilot flying his F 104 Starfighter (aka "The widow maker") through a snowstorm to save the life of a 3 year old girl. Sadly all the articles about it are in German but i am sure you can get Military Aviation History to help you with that.

I hear Mosquitoes and the Hamburg historian in me flinches. Those things are so utterly annoying it is hard to believe. For people wondering, Mosquitoes were very, very, very often used for raids on Hamburg. They actually did nearly all of them, unlike most probably would guess, given the set in picture of raids being done by Wellingtons or Flying fortresses, as that is the simple picture of a bombing raid. Back to it, given they basically are the reason a decent chunk of the raids on my city doing the war are listed as nuisance raids should tell the whole story. So, in the end, while bombers did the most overall damage, the freaking Mosquitoes were by far the most annoying part of it, and makes me appreciate the name of the aircraft cause it fucking deserves it. Just to quick add, many of those Mosquitoe attacks were carried out by a small group of them, and when I say small, I mean 4 or less. You telling me the Germans were crazy doing the war, think on that.

The fact that you, an Australian, did not take the opportunity to use the AC/DC song “Jailbreak” for this video borders on criminal

Honestly, your pet theory of targeting that clean hit to deal with the HVTs seems totally viable, and that bomb hit taking out the HVTs seems very likely. But it is also of about equal likelihood that (goal of the planners or not) the bomb hit where it hit by chance. Good as the pilots were, the equipment they had to work with would have had a hard time guaranteeing that the right section of wall was hit. That further said though, if the commander knew which section the HVTs were in seeing that bomb hit would be a logical reason for sending off the bombers, regardless of malice in planning.

great informative content, but the delivery is a little bit dry. sprinkling a pun or a meme or a cutaway gag here and there could go a long way.
