I think the hate is that it should be the best Disney park in the world. There is no excuse for building a worse version of a ride here, it has the biggest crowds, most space and brings in the most money of any Disney park. It should be treated like the flagship park with interesting and unique attractions that are the best of disney.

Problem is that will be impossible to ever achieve. Disneyland will always be the flagship Disney park for the simple reason it is the only park that Walt designed and stepped foot in. Magic Kingdom is cheapened because today’s imagineers do not put their best into it. Slapping an IP on something is just that. And Disneyland is cheapened for the same reason. If it weren’t for the fact of its history with Walt Disney it would be far inferior.

@@davids6898 I agree to an extent on the history view of the parks, but economically and publicly (especially internationally) magic kingdom should be the most important park. However, even if it is an IP ride they put in the park, it should be something other parks look at and think we would love that in our park.

The undeserved popularity of Magic Kingdom is exactly the reason Disney doesn't feel the need to make it better. People will go to Orlando no matter what because they make it a weeks long vacation so there's no need to give 100% on it. Whereas Anaheim is mainly a locals park, so Disney feels pressure to make it as good as it can be or the locals will take their money elsewhere.

I wouldn't say the Magic Kingdom is a bad park, but the experience of going there is NOT at all what it once was. Poor maintenance, overcrowding, and Genie+ are all very real reasons why many people that go there feel as if it's a ripoff.

Guardians of the Galaxy replaced World of Energy. 20,000 Leagues under the Sea was replaced with a very lame 7 Dwarfs coaster which was built for Asian bodies; always fun to watch Americans try to shoehorn themselves into those tiny seats and restraints.

Finally visited Disneyland this year as I have only visited Disney World since my youth. I have to say, Disney puts more love into Disneyland. It was cleaner, more detailed, and better ride experiences. The dark rides are a major plus to Disneyland as those are the soul of the park. When Magic Kingdom began removing those rides, it destroyed the charm it once had. Loved the fact many of the hollywood studios rides were in Disneyland. Hollywood studios alone is wasted money.

Except if you're talking about sickening screen rides and underwhelming rushed theming. But universal fans keep making the mistake of pretending, like universal even tries to achieve the same quality....They don't... their whole thing is Just to get the things open as fast as possible and then change them out every few years. The hate is overblown imo, but I can see why people don’t like it as much. When you compare it to Disneyland, it’s clear that’s got a little more love from the company than Magic Kingdom. The rides primarily, but also just how preserved it’s been, even in its theming. Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland is pretty boring when you see how Disneyland has theirs. Also, the crowds have gotten so insane as of late. Last time I went I only got to do like 5 or 6 rides tops 💀 as a kid we coulda gotten the whole park done in a day, but not anymore. So poor crowd management is another issue… I still enjoy all the neat little details tho, like the ones you pointed out here :)

Here's hoping the huge expansion will help solve crowds, but according to rumors, the "largest expansion in MK history" is only going to have like four rides, one of which is a clone from California, and then they're also potentially rethemeing the entirety of Frontierland and Liberty Square, which would close off a huge chunk of the park, AND they may be filling in the Rivers of America, which gets rid of two attractions right there. I have no clue how closing rides and spending a decade just to build four is gonna solve capacity issues lmao

Disneyland AND Disney world seriously need a park capacity limit, and to just start turning people away or saying "PARK IS NOW FULL, TRY AGAIN IN 4 HOURS" - There is not enough space, and even if there was no ride could run enough to get 15,000 people through in a few hours. For me, the dealbreaker about Magic Kingdom is the water quality (and its nearby hotels, including the Contemporary). It tastes so awful and ruins the fountain beverages as well. Tried to get some tap water, awful. Tried to get a Coke from Casey's Corner, awful. You'd have to always drink bottled beverages to even make it through the park. Not to mention the whole Genie+ experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, especially for rides in Magic Kingdom itself. Nothing worse than having to pay an additional Lightning Lane fee for a ride you want to go on, only for it to shut down for rain. Worst part, I tried doing it AGAIN on the last day, but yet again it rained. At least I got refunded for that, but it still sucks. On a recent visit to the resort, I realized how much I like World Showcase. If I had to do it again, I'd probably spend most of my time in Epcot, but unfortunately would have to take a couple trips to Magic Kingdom simply cause there's just too much material you have to do there (and maybe a half-day at Hollywood Studios, skipping Animal Kingdom).

I think that part of the reason that Magic Kingdom gets so much hate is that, at least from my experience, it is the Disney World park that feels the most hamstrung by the replacement of FastPass with Genie+. In other parks, you may only ride 4 or 5 attractions known a day, but they have few enough attractions that you probably got to ride most of what you wanted to anyway, and you finish early enough to go to Disney Springs or hop to Epcot for dinner. In Magic Kingdom, you only ride 4 or 5 attractions if you spend all day there and are willing to walk away from the most in-demand rides, and you end up feeling like you barely did anything, as there is so much stuff you had to skip. It’s to the point where you really need to pay obscene money for one of those guided tours just to get the most out of a single day.

But I answered this question before even watching the video and you never explored the #1 reason in my mind: the crowds!!! I don't know when you got your b-role, but I cannot remember the last time I was in MK without it being shoulder to shoulder. When you add all of the context of your video together, and then wait in line on average 45-60 minutes to experience any of said attractions, plus an hour wait to get your hotdog at Casey's Corner, then a 30 minute wait to find a table to eat, then another hour wait for an attraction, plus a 20 minute wait to buy your souvenir, and a 30-60 minute wait to get on transportation simply to leave the park: you've realized that you've spent close to $200 to dedicate more than 80% of your day to waiting in lines. The Walt Disney world railroad is bare bones compared to the Disneyland Railroad, where’s the Grand Canyon and Primeval World? And the fact we get to ride through it’s a small world, not to mention the additional tunnels, bridges, trestles, and lush vegetation that fits the theming to the land you go through, and there’s one additional stop at Tomorrowland so you don’t have to walk as far showing how good the walkability is in the park.

I went within the last year and I think for me out of the 4 parks we went to, (both universals, Magic Kingdom and Epcot) Magic Kingdom was easily the least liked. The biggest reason why I can easily identify is ride condition. Its extremely clear the rides are not being well maintained and many parts of animatronics and lighting ques just flat out don't work. You see it the most in fantasy land. And no joke, every single omni mover we went on stopped mid ride at least twice. Haunted mansion being the king with 6 times...in one ride. That combined with the long wait times, large crowds and not many rides for older adults, it leaves the park feeling very...hollow. And as mentioned, I don't like how long it takes to get to the park itself, especially if your off property as having to go through multiple monorails eats a lot of time. Doubly stressful if your one of the first groups for say Tron. That and your paying Disney prices which just adds to the bafflingness of how the park is in that rough of shape.
@WiiDude83
@WiiDude83 9 ай бұрын
@enchantingkatie I do get that. At the same time though, when it happens on every omni mover ride usually multiple times during a single ride it does zap you out of it completely. Insanely crowded, super expensive, predatory fastpass system, hardly any stand out rides, IP's milked dry over decades... To name a few? They should restrict the number of tickets that are sold on a single day to keep crowds under control and bring back the complimentary fastpass system, at the least. Whats the point at looking at individual rides if everything around it is just terrible? Plus, I dont think " forcing" you through 5 star $600/night hotels on your way to the entrance is very customer friendly. Showing the peasants a glimpse of a better experience really starts your day on the wrong foot, especially since you've already spend an arm and a leg to be there in the first place. But sure, that opportunity to buy a mediocre $13 hotdog brings back that warm and fuzzy feeling.

I think out of any Disney park, MK could probably get away with having a reservation system. It's majorly a tourist park, so people are already planning their trips out in advance. If they limit the amount of guests it could really help the park. Maybe make it so annual passholders don't need a reservation too though, so that way locals have a reason to keep buying their annual passes?

@@charliemacsart If you look at Disney as an "entertainment venue" which it essentially is, just like a football stadium or a theatre , limiting capacity just make sense. You just have to look at the amount of rides + daily capacity divided by the total attendance to get reasonable waiting times. Sure you can build a 100k capacity theatre and just put a gigantic screen above the stage so the people in the back can still see the show, but its just a worse experince all around.

As someone who grew up in Anaheim but had the opportunity to visit and explore both resorts, I ended up pleasantly surprised as to how this was a candid comparison between Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. Living on the East Coast now, I've met so many Disney fans whose review of the two comes down to "four Parks... so big". You refreshingly nailed again and again why I still consider Disneyland the better park. Your review here is factual and well researched. I found myself finding nothing I could disagree with, even when you made great points about attractions done better (or at least different) at MK. I had to admit any difference in feeling I had was Anaheim bias. Personally I think overall, the Florida resort has been catching up on overall attractions. It wasn't that long ago that Florida was shockingly empty compared to the density of DLR. That has been changing, but you did point out that it does so at the cost of its soul. Epcot and Studios essentially have no theme anymore and Animal Kingdom is heading that direction. Guests certainly do vote with their wallet and attendance. Beloved classic original attractions with charm often lie empty while attractions based on IP are getting crowds. So Disney follows and will never make anything "Parks Original" ever again. Disneyland's PeopleMover is a great loss, but at least it was the last gasp of local Imagineers trying to do the right thing and add more kinetics to the land, but not being given the ability to do so correctly. At the same time, they probably were overeager and created something that couldn't stand up to maintenance. They almost did that with Indy. And while it is unfortunate to see Dinosaur is likely going to change to Indy, at least Florida will get a working version (at first). Anaheim's always has some (or many) show pieces broken (some permanently) because it was such a complicated attraction eager to be a unique experience. As you can imagine, I came down on the side of Anaheim's Space Mountain, but I respect that nothing you said was incorrect about the attractions. Thank you for this treasured love letter to both parks.

With how small it is compared to Walt Disney World, it manages to have more rides and entertainment overall. There’s no need for 4 separate parks because you can do everything you want in one day at Disneyland. Agree completely. We just came back from a five night visit to Disneyland/California adventure. Although the arrival day we only rode about four t attractions and had dinner , the other four days we did rope drop and stayed til at least 11 or midnight. And that is at 76. The ease of going from park to park and land to land is just effortless and the weather really helps. We had a couple of rainy days, a couple of very sunny days where grizzly peak was very welcome and a middle of the road weather day but all better than most Florida weather! I’ve just had days when making it around Epcot was a slog or even up the hill to tron was tough but I just felt the variety in close proximity in California couldn’t be beat. We even watched fireworks from a bench near small world and couldn’t help comparing it with the pushing and shoving at magic kingdom.

Disney World fans are really missing out if they don't think they need to visit Disneyland Resort. Disneyland is so packed with attractions that it takes a minimum of two days to do all of them. You add in DCA and it's like 3 parks vs Florida's 4. The ease of accessing Downtown Disney, the two parks and all the hotels all within walking distance can't be understated. It's so much more convenient. And California weather is so much more comfortable than Florida's year round. But I still do love visiting Disney World, but if I had to choose my favorite, it would be Disneyland Resort.

Epcott was this place I'd only ever heard of from my father in stories of him going as a kid, and seeing it for myself made me relive old childhood fantasies of going. For my mother and I who were there it was a grand experience in food. We did a park a day over the course of 5 days, and I won't go into the whole trip but magic kingdom ended up being the only park we left early. That was due to the fact that 1. It was packed to the brim 2. I didn't fit in half the rides as a 6'4" young man. I think it pales in comparison to disneyworld, and for my birthday this year I'll be at tokyo disney, so if I remember I'll try and update this comment with my thoughts from there.

I’m getting my graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning, and EPCOT has always fascinated me because of my love for planning human spaces. EPCOT’s history as a Garden Movement city shows its problems… some really major… but EPCOT always has been the most fascinating because it represents a continual effort towards international cooperation and planning for humans and communities. Its one of the few parks in the US where if you pay attention to it enough, you begin learning a lot more than just what’s on Living with the Land and such. The whole park is a unique experience itself BECAUSE of its history and clear efforts baked in by Walt himself as part of his original EPCOT vision.

My biggest gripe about magic kingdom is the complete lack of sunshading as well as shelter from rain. Magic kingdom has been open for decades at this point and yet it is basically a ruined day for you if you happen to get rained on there. All the rides are pretty much outdoors except for a very few handful of them and all of them Get shut down immediately once it starts raining. Magic kingdom notoriously has a huge flooding issues when it rains too much and they have never fixed it. There is a massive lack of actual shelter in areas due to a lot of the stores and food areas being very small or just barely small enough overhangs to protect the large groups of people that are there. Compared to epcot, where there are large gift shops or large areas to stay sheltered in when it rains, Magic kingdom is Practically an outdoors only experience most of the time you're there. I went two years ago with a moderately sized group of friends And we were even prepared for the rain yet We all still got soaking wet and our feet soaking wet as well Due to the flooding in many areas of the park. If anything the cast members there as well are the least nice of all the other parks had been to over the years And they actively do not help guests when they need it unless it's a medical emergency. Not one crew member offered any help or protection to any guests even families with babies in strollers against the rain where on multiple Occasions when I've gone to epcot i've literally seen cast members take off their own ponchos and give them to park guests to protect them from rain before.

Magic Kingdom is my favorite WDW park, it's the most charming and classic of the four and still has its base theme in tact, unlike Epcot or Hollywood Studios. My fear right now though is with all the rumors about changes to Frontierland and Liberty Square that point towards possibly losing them entirely, and also the rumors that the Beyond Big Thunder expansion, while sticking to the "genre land" theme that Magic Kingdom has instead of making an IP land, is going to heavily feature clone rides from other parks (Radiator Springs Racers, which doesn't fit Frontierland when you really think about it) and IPs that are much more needed in other parks (for example the rumor say there'll be a Woody's Round-Up attraction in the expansion that was originally planned for Toy Story Land, which makes no sense because Toy Story Land desperately needs more to do). I have no clue why Disney is so bent on giving WDW clones of other park's rides instead of their own original attractions- I'm pretty sure Guardians is the only original attraction we've gotten in the last 6 years that hasn't been cloned/is going to be cloned elsewhere.

Really hoping he’s wrong in this case though cause I genuinely don’t understand how it would help the park to turn Frontierland into New Orleans Square, I think Tiana’s can fit perfectly fine in Frontierland since Louisiana is west of the original colonies. Plus if they remove Frontierland what happens to the Country Bears that they just spent money on revamping to a specifically Nashville inspired show

I guess as an adult who enjoys both themeimg AND thrill rides, you can't really compare the two IN MY OPINION. At UIA I rode Velocicoaster for the first time. At Magic I rode Tron for the first time. One of these was amazing, and one was a big nothing.

I think the reason i dislike Magic Kingdom so much (aside from the obvious crowding issues) is simply due to the Seven Seas Lagoon. What was once a way to fully immerse yourself in the world of the Magic Kingdom has become a cumbersome and tetious slog to get in and out of the park. It puts a major damper on the beginning and ending of a day, and the last thing i want after being in a 8+ hour day in the heat is another hour+ wait to even get to my car.

Despite being decades older Disneyland simply has the superior versions of many attractions. Pirates/Space Mountain/Haunted Mansion/Autopia/Small world all definitively worse and MK barely even has any Fantasyland dark rides to speak of. MK also has quite possibly the worst food of any Disney park which is saying something. I get they have to deal with the greatest volume of guests but would it kill to have quick service that isn't county fair trash tier food anywhere? I will say MK is much more equipped to handle massive crowds with its spacing/layout and generally has better shows/fireworks, but it also loses points for generally being a nightmare to leave any time after dusk

This was an excellent video. Honestly, regarding the castle parks, I definitely understand why Disneyland is seen as the better experience overall (I've yet to experience Walt's Magic Kingdom, being from the East Coast, but the Magic Kingdom we have here is something pretty special to me), but you are absolutely right in the Magic Kingdom having a lot of unique experiences to offer on it's own. One thing I do want to say is that, regarding the railroad, I do find the back stretch along Florida Swampland to be really neat, as it's some of the last vestiges of that on Walt Disney World Property, so getting to see what the Magic Kingdom once was in it's most "natural" state feels pretty neat. Plus, I think Walt Disney World may be on track for a new golden age here soon, with a creative back in charge of Imagineering, I think we might see a lot of things change at Walt Disney World for the better.

I grew-up on Disney. Starting in 1965 at Disneyland up until 2000 at Disney World. We won't be going back. Although I'm 68, I still love theme parks; especially the coasters. However, the only way to feel "satisfied" upon exiting the parks is when you can enjoy many attractions. Sadly, between the "points", "Genie+", reservations everywhere and the necessity of a cell phone in the parks have caused us to switch to Universal (FL & CA). At Universal parks, they have ExpressPass. And you can leave your phone in your hotel room. How many here have been a victim of a Disney "phone zombie", when someone is walking while using their phone and they don't watch their step? Rudeness everywhere. We've developed an "elbow maneuver" that will accidently knock the zombies' phones to the ground. But no more. We're 100% Universal. Perhaps someday if it's possible to easily procure rides at Disney, I'd like to ride Pirates & Haunted Mansion one more time.

Ive been watching this channel for a couple of years and just happened to see this video. I was just at WDW and Magic Kingdom was extremely crowded. It wasnt as fun to visit bc of that, but i have to agree that the classic rides there, such as Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Space Mtn, Big Thunder, Carousel of Progess and TTA Peoplemover still make it something special. Despite the screaming kids and packed crowds. Disneyland Park is better in my opinion over Magic Kingdom still, especially for how much they can fill in such a small space, and yet feels less crowded than MK. Anyway i wanted to say to the narrator (not sure what his real name is) great job as always. I think you do a great job of describing the state of theme parks without sounding too much like you're a schill for either Disney or Universal. I really enjoy your videos on your thoughtful opinions, even if i dont necessarily agree with all of it. That being said, i think Epcot and Hollywood Studios are the best parks at WDW mainly for their rides (Test Track, Tower of Terror, Rockn roller coaster, Soarin' etc.) And themed areas such as World Showcase, Sunset Boulevard and Galaxy Edge. One last thing.....i think its a close call on which Space Mountain is better (FL or CA).

A positive Disney video from Poseidon?! Love it!! Now do one for EPCOT, I dare you hehehe… In all seriousness, I enjoy your content a lot and I wholeheartedly agree to look at both perspectives of the state of Disney parks-the good and the bad. I admit MK is my least favorite of the 4 WDW parks. After growing up with the California park throughout my childhood, I came to MK in my mid 30s and was expecting a better version but left slightly disappointed. While there are some rides that are better in MK and some are better in DL, you reminded me that I tend to take for granted how well the theming is in MK. Which Disney has historically done well at, especially in their castle parks. Now it’s making me think what would it take for MK to jump higher in my personal park preferences for WDW. (Side note: I really wish Disney didn’t stop making those mini Fantasyland dark rides because those are so fun to ride when I go back to Disneyland in CA.)

When it comes to Disney parks, I think, how can anyone have a good time? You're surrounded by people, spending like $500 for one day at the Magic Kingdom, and you gotta wait 5 hours to get on a 60 second ride. It's hot, it's sunny, there aren't enough shady places to sit; there is no possibility for peace, with rides making noise, and babies constantly screaming. You're tired, hungry, you don't wanna wait anymore for anything, but you have to wait in line just to go to a bathroom. You spend $40 on lunch, and hours later when thirsty, you spend $9 on a bottle of water. It sounds miserable!

Love the bitter-sweet comparison of the two Castle parks on the two coast. Having only been to WDW in 2009 and MK for 2 of those days, I found MK to be underwhelming at first glance. For only 2 days to absorb the park there is really no way I would have discovered the higher detail that you have pointed out. Thank you for the narration of the pathways of Adventureland, Frontierland and Liberty Square, it appears that Disney took more time and effort to express these elements. These pathways seem to have created a more expansive depth than the older Disneyland version. Disneyland does have a similar level of detail in New Orleans Square, but I appreciate the uniqueness of New Orleans Square being in California. The strength of the Castle park template were the seamless pathways through 5 theme lands and the skillful transition between lands. (Notice that no IP defines a Land). I don't hate this park, but it interesting how MK '71 differs from DL '55 in ways of lessons learned and the evolution of the parks. None of the parks at the WDW has ever received the same level of procurement as Disneyland as DL received a higher density of improvements for 40 years before DCA arrived. In comparison, WDW received a second park only 11 years later in EPCOT. Magic Kingdom hasn't matured in the same way as Disneyland, since resources have been spread across more parks. With Real Estate Magic Kingdom definitely has the potential to be an equal to it's older brother in Anaheim. Great video with thoughtful dialogue.

I do actually think that I left out a lot of details, but that also speaks to the strengths of the park. Yes, perhaps it didn't age the same way that Disneyland has, but there's a lot of interesting elements to find if you take the time to look for them. There's probably a whole video worth of culture to explore with just Tom Sawyer Island or Liberty Tree Tavern, as Magic Kingdom has dense pockets of really interesting theming with depth.

My personal beef with MK is that it is always just stupidly crowded lol. I agree with just about everything you said, though. After around 8:00 in the evening when crowds have thinned out, MK goes from being one of my least favorite WDW parks to being one of my favorites. Timing rides on Big Thunder and Splash so that you can see the fireworks is so much fun. At that point you can basically walk on most rides, and seeing the fireworks while riding up the lift hills on BT is a great experience. So yeah, my dislike for MK comes from the ~11:00AM-6:00PM range lol. When it is less crowded and you catch that second wind after dinner, it is definitely one of the most fun parks to experience.

@@PoseidonEntertainment yeah man, now that I’m thinking about it, probably a majority of my favorite WDW experiences occurred at night at MK, especially back in the day with extra magic hours when MK would close at like 3:00AM lol. Literally every ride was a walk-on by midnight back then. I’ve just had the attitude of, “I’ll tolerate this dreaded stroller hell so I can at least hit HM, PotC, and the Mountains” for the last several years when it comes to MK, but your video has me thinking a bit differently about that now. It truly starts to feel like a totally different park when the sun goes down and the strollers clear out. There are even parts of the park, like the area around Pecos Bill’s, that become more or less empty after the fireworks and really makes it feel like you have the park to yourself. Sure, the crowds at the other parks also thin out and wait times go down at night, but there’s something about nighttime MK that just has a truly special feeling. I also think there are some rides that are actually more enjoyable and immersive at night as well. For example, these days I pretty much only hit Jungle Cruise at nighttime because the atmosphere and ambience of that ride at night is some of the best at the entire resort. As I mentioned, Big Thunder is also great at night, and I love seeing HM’s facade all lit up at night, too. The park just has a really cool nighttime ambience in general. So yeah, this video now has me reconsidering some of my takes on the park as a whole. Nice job again, brother.
