Positano to Ischia - before the earthquake

How to get from Positano to Ischia. Follow us as we take a break from the crowds in Positano and head off to Ischia for a few days. Well, that's what we thought anyway..
We arrived on the day of the earthquake.
Just before 9pm we had driven from Sant'Angelo to Forio and were parking the scooters in the seafront car park. Suddenly there was a blackout as as we looked up and around to see what was happening we felt the earth move in big waves under our feet. It lasted for only 3-4 seconds and then stopped. There was hardly time to understand what was happening. People started screaming and running. I remember Carlo shouting 'terramoto!". I grabbed both girls by their arms and moved us to a big open empty part of the car park and then we just waited. Nothing else happened. We all called home to tell our families we were fine in case it was reported on the news.

Ferries from Positano to Ischia leave at 0900am every morning and go via Capri. From Ischia to Positano they leave at 4.20pm. It takes 2 hours each way.

My wife and I stayed on Ischia a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. Living in Naples for 4 years in the 80's I knew that Ischia was were the locals went to vacation and left Capri to everyone else. We look forward to going back soon.

how is the Ischias codition after the earthquake? i love their custle.isnt there any damage for that? in summer i live in Puglia. from there i trip to Napoli, Sicilia very often. in this summer i have been in Positano,Amalfi and Capri from Sorrento. normally i enjoy one day trip,but in this case i got the hotel in Sorrento,the top of the hill,and it was really nice. i am a musician from Vienna,and i am very active for pottery. (i really would like to know about the potter who has the studio=in the watch tower. i could not find his home address in internet! could you let me know how to contact with him,please!)i also studied Mosaic in Vienna Uni.,and i am very excited about the archeology.i have been Frederico II's almost all the castles in Puglia and Sicilia. well your video's gave me very enjoyable time,thanks!! keep touch!

The artist in the tower is called Paolo Sandulli. You can find him on facebook! Ischia is ok, it was just a few very old small buildings that fell, the castle is fine.

We had vacation on Ischia that August and left 4 days before the earthquake. It was shocking to hear the news after it happened. Most damage was done to the Casamicciola community on the north end of the island.
