@KitGuruTech Hi, I have a question. So if I put 2 shadow wings 2 140mm (slightly worse then silent wings I believe - at least cheaper :D) as an intake on the front and 2 shadow wings 2 120mm as exhaust (rear and top) will I have a positive pressure then?

Hi. I have a question. i would put the 3 fans included in the case as exhaust ( 2 at the top and 1 at the rear), then purchase 3 120mm pure wings high speed and install them at the front as intake. Am i right? ( silly question but I have only one chassis fan header available on my motherboard... should i purchase some kind of PWM splitter?) Thanks a lot for your video, very interesting stuff

The cable management is one of the best i seen in build videos. Good job! Also i agree, the build turned out to be beautiful. No flashy bling stuff... Nice mid-range config too, most of us would be happy to have something like this at home. Interesting tests. Do note that setting intake and exhaust RPMs to be equal does not warrant balanced air flow. In order to achieve perfect balance, front and rear mesh holes have to be of the exact same size. Every square millimeter of material matters.

Thank you very much for that excellent review. Exactly what I needed to know. I think most people - gamers at least - are always looking out for the best combination of performance and quietness in a system and/or case. For me I think the DX ticks all the boxes on both of those things. I could do without the LEDs at the front and glass side as I don't care about RGB - can you turn the LEDs in the case off when it's running? I'll probably just tint the glass really dark.

Hello @KitGuruTech, Thank you for this video, I have only just discovered it. I am loyal to be quiet! brand. I have the same 850W power supply and 4 Silent Wings 3 140 mm fans: 2x High Speed for the front and potentially 1x rear and 1x at the top. If I understand correctly (I'm French frog ^^), the best configuration is with 3 fans in positive pressure: 2x front, 1x rear? The 4th fan at the top, does not do better in the end? And the whole thing would make more noise in the end? On the other hand, to cool a Ryzen 7 5800X processor, do you recommend a Dark Rock 4 or Dark Rock 4 Pro cooler? Depending on the cooler, do you recommend adding or removing the top cooler? And last stupid question, which rubber wedge mount (2 positions, S and L) do you use depending on the location of the Silent Wings 3 fans? S for intake fans (0 spacing) and L for exhaust fans (a small space)? The instructions are not clear... Thank you, have a nice day!

Hey, this is kinda the vid i was looking for, as i'm having a bit of a problem with my 500DX. So yeah, i got it, and i am using the three stock coolers provided with it (Pure Wings 2 140mm), and when i am playing something a bit more new (Sniper Elite 4, Expeditions Viking lately), basically when it is under the load i can totally feel the hot air bouncing off the wall behind my pc table and reflecting back into my legs and generally creating quite a temperature beneath my pc table. It's not much of an issue now, but i am dreading the thought of it happening when the summer comes, my balls are gonna sweat off. I am not using the case in the default configuration, the one on the top cover i have had moved as a second front intake cooler, so i am having a 2 140mm set to intake on the front panel, and the third 140mm set on the back panel of the case. The case is sitting in the bottom right side beneath the table, and the table doesn't have the typical 4 legs, but it's more like two plank sides protruding from the top plank, and there is like a plank in the middle reinforcing the left to right side (legs as it may).The case is moved to about 25 cm from the wall behind, with the reinforcing plank of the table being somewhat obstructive halfway there narrowing the distance partially to about 20 cm maybe. It would be really easier to just be able to show the picture of the setup but that's basically it. The exhaust fan on the back panel is totally killing the temp beneath the table, so if you cguys would have an advice, it would te appreciated.
@benadkins76953 жыл бұрын
Just because you used a certain amount of fans for either the exhaust or the intake doesn’t mean the chassis is positive or negative, there are numerous other factors such as RPM that have to be taken into play. Also, you sort of neglect showing the actual performance of the case by not having the tempered glass on or the filters. I understand that’s a factor that will vary by case to case, but that’s far more realistic than having a completely open case. Regardless, this was a solid video mate, hope to see more.

Hello there. This was almost exactly what I have been looking for. First of all, 12 hours testing, thank you for your contribution for those who want to know about the outcome of these tests. I would like to go with Balanced pressure but unfortunately the case comes with 3x140mms and I don't want to put those 140mms aside and buy new 120mms. I was wondering what kind of a big change would I expect if I were to use 2x140mms in the front as intake and 2x140mms exhausting fans one being on top and the other being in the rear. Basically I just want to add one more 140mm to the front. How different would it be than the balanced pressure as it was the outcome of 120mms instead of 140mms? Thanks.

I didn't see any mention of fan orientation for the power supply. Did you pull air from outside of the case into the power supply and out the back of the case, or did you pull air from inside of the case and out the back? I suspect you had the power supply with the fan pulling in air from outside of the case and out the back of the PC but just thought I would ask because it does make a difference even with a power supply shroud.

Does not make sense to do tests with 120mm fans. This case comes with 3 x 140mm fans. Buyers are more likely to buy some more 140mm fans for this case(that's what I did) because of better airflow and lower noise. Why not use the included fans for test when most people will just use those? I watched this video because I wanted to know which configuration of the originally included three pure wings 2 fans (plus two I bought) gives the best cooling result, but there is nothing about that in the video. Buy the way, currently I use 4 intake and 1 exhaust at the back, I find that configuration good enough.

@@KitGuruJames Just check how much space the case has - if it has room for 166mm HSFs and you get a 165mm HSF and raise the fan 10mm higher, you're going to have a problem. If you adjust the RPM of the front fans it should work fine.
@bloo_1104 жыл бұрын
James Dawson Yeah I was thinking to have low rpm on front fans and just a higher one on the back fans. Obviously tinker until it’s right I guess
@donkeysunited4 жыл бұрын
Another factor is noise. If you can, go for 140mm fans and run them at a lower speed. Smaller fans have to spin faster which makes more noise. Larger fans can spin slower to move the same amount of air and are therefore quieter. Even better if you use PWM fans and use fan curves to tie their speeds to temperatures so they make very little noise when the PC is barely being used. But you can't go wrong with 2/3 in and 1 out.

We didn't record the noise levels since this was an airflow and thermal performance test, noise wasnt critical. However, noise levels with the Silent Wings 3 high speed fans running at 1200 RPM were audible but I wouldnt say it was too distracting.
@stanisawkowalski74404 жыл бұрын
I have three Silent Wings 3 140mm and can tell you, it depends on the case. With my previous case (SilentiumPC Armis AR7 (not shit) + 0,5 mm thick best sound dampening material sides, top and front) I couldn't stand them running 1000 rpm during gaming (no headphones). With my current case (Define 7 Black Solid without any additions) sometimes I don't notice they turned from 300 to 1000 rpm when web browsing. Really - 13 kg of case works like that. Don't go airflow case (like DX) route, if you want more silence focused build. Airflow cases are better for overclocking, but dusty and noisy. What is unique about SW3 is the type of sound the create - that low I never heard from fans. And lower the sound is, harder to hear for us. That means decibel charts won't tell you much. I'm really into cases, fans and coolers (kinda niche I noticed), so if you need any advice - feel free to ask. I know the best options in any budget :)

I'm not sure why everyone is praising this video. The information that we were looking for comes at the last 20% of the video, with the rest of this (arguably too long) video being excruciatingly monotone explanations of the testing. And the results? Not even what most of us were looking to find out. I never cared about positive or negative pressure on CPU temperatures, because all the CPU needs is air flow (and this is reflected in the results considering all three temperatures were within margin of error). I wanted to see you demonstrate how much positive or negative pressure affects air intake from parts of the chassis that aren't meant to receive air. I also wanted to see ways to change pressure depending on fan configuration / RPMs.
@knownas62174 жыл бұрын
WAS interesting, although as with temperature positive and negative pressure without knowing the pressure gradient from inside to outside the case, can be a little meaningless. When the gradient will affect the effectiveness of cooling. As yet Pressure sensors (unlike temperature understandably as this is the critical factor) inside a case are not provided and probably may never be as the move seems to be towards water or closed loop cooling, which in my view does not offer any real functional advantage over good air cooled systems.

@@KitGuruJames thanks James , I'm looking to get this case as an upgrade from my s340 elite . Looks like a great case to build in. S340 always seemed a little restricted airflow wise with there front panel so I'm sure this will be better

@@VeX-hr8yr ahh the S340 Elite, i used one of those in the past, the white version. The Pure Base 500DX is a similar size as the S340 Elite but should be an improvement if you are looking for better airflow.

you really must have gotten a bad CPU sample there if it only does 4.2 GHz at that voltage
@KitGuruTech4 жыл бұрын
thats the clock speed we used for this review. its not a limitation of the sample we have.

The aim was to have a constant frequency and voltage that would be 100% stable during long stress tests rather than searching for the highest possible frequency.

Your assumptions are flawed because the top fan is angled. Your balanced is 28800cm^2 in and 24000cm^2 exhaust. total: 52800 Negative is 14400 in and 32667 out total: 47067 Positive is 38400 in and 14400 out. total: 52800 If you were to put a 140mm fan as rear exhaust on the balanced you would be closer to actual balance with 29200cm^2 out rather than 24000.

actual airflow will be lesser for the intake fans because of the impedance of the grill, so you should bias your cooling setup towards having more intake fans than exhaust fans
@magnusnilsson97924 жыл бұрын
@@ivanbrasla Exactly, filters hamper intake fans with about 50% so 2x140mm intake and 2x120mm exhaust would be 19600 in and 24000 out, even 3x120mm intake fans wouldn't be able to match those exhausts with only 21600 effectively. The top fan are even more useless as an intake only providing 33% efficiency if filtered as is appropriate.

@@magnusnilsson9792 there are other factors that had to be considered such as the other fans in the system. Both the CPU and GPU fans affect the air pressure.
