This is an Instructional video on how to make a Positive Photograph on Glass using a Contact Printing Technique. Positive images on glass always leave me speechless with its sublime beauty and tangible nature. It's a fascinating process based on light transmission, with its own distinctive beauty that is pretty easy to accomplish. All you need is a Negative, some fresh Dry Plates, Light Source and Darkroom Chemistry. Just follow me along and I will guide you through the whole process including the materials & chemistry you need, exposure, processing and different ways of presentation. Now get everything ready and let's start!

Hi, thank you for all your brilliant videos. This might be a very stupid question but - is it possible to make the positive plate directly from an enlarged negative, without making the negative onto glass? Thank you!

Hello there! Thank you for this video. How do you recommend cleaning these glass plates after the photos are developed on the glass? I have a series of photographs on glass and they are very dusty but I do not want to disturb the emulsion by improperly cleaning them. Suggestions?

Hi, Nejc, When you made the final exposure onto the dryplate in the video you used a glass negative, and you stated that the glass was heavy enough by itself and that no other glass was necessary (such as in conventional contact printing.) My question is this: If I'm using a film negative, how will I maintain sufficient contact with the dryplate if I don't place glass on top? Thanks! And keep up the great stream of videos!
@lostlightart6064
@lostlightart6064 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert, Yes I mentioned it because I contact printed glass to glass but if you use film you should put another piece of glass over it. Maybe it would also be a good idea to put a piece of felt underneath the dry plate to minimise the chances of cracking. Thank you and all the best, Nejc

Was the developer you used to make this positive different that what you would normally use to develop a dry plate? If so, what is the name of the developing solution? thanks again, really enjoying watching and learning

@@lostlightart6064 Thank you. There has been some discussion about the European version of HC100 versus the U.S. version. Some people say that the European version is not the same (that it's not as syrupy). What has been your experience? Do you dilute it at all? I also have a question about how long the plate is to sit in the developer. What will I be looking for so I know when it's ready to be taken out? I know an image will appear but what is the trick to knowing how long? And what happens if I leave it in there too long? I'm still learning. Thanks again.

Can I use this to create an interpositive from a 35mm or 120 negative in my enlarger instead of contact printing like you did? My goal is to then use the positive glass plate in the enlarger to create enlarged paper negatives. Would this work? Thanks!
@tulgeepit
@tulgeepit Жыл бұрын
Short answer is yes you can do make a positive from an enlarged negative.

Getting the correct contrast was always a problem with this type of positive process. Special emulsions were made just for this purpose.
