On the topic of ability chunks, I think an better way to obtain them would be to be able to exchange drink tickets for their respective chunks.

To be honest, I really think they should add a system where you can exchange ability chunks for other ability chunks, for example: if you have a lot of sub saver chunks but need run speed up chunks, then you can exchange the sub saver chunks for the run speed up chunks!

You can kinda do that, pick a piece of gear that you don't like and has RSU for its main ability, then replace it with Sub Saver. That way you get 6 RSU chunks... at the cost of 45 Sub Saver chunks lol. But if there are abilities that you basically don't care about at all it can definitely help to use that feature, I've done it many times sacrificing ink management / special charge chunks since most of the weapons I play don't care about those.

There’s also another problem with gears: the game doesn’t give any deep details about them that are important to look at when setting them The most opvious example I have in mind is Opening Gambit. The game only says that it increase the overall speed during the first 30 seconds of a match and doesn’t say that it extends itself for 15 more seconds every time you get a kill/assist which a big factor when trying to understand what it does

Honestly, I’d go as far as saying halving the sub costs would be the quickest and easiest way to fix it. Only having to spend 5, 10, 15 would make a world of difference. Having 3 subs would still be expensive, but you wouldn’t be breaking the bank anywhere near as hard and it’d help w/ making mix-and-match gear sets for feeling how different abilities feel on a certain weapon. As for mains, just drop the price to 25, keeping it expensive but more reasonable.

Glad you mentioned respawn punisher as a problem. I never understood why it was introduced since, like you said, it's just a "you get to play the game less" ability.
@Thewaterspirit57
@Thewaterspirit57 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. Instead of adding to the respawn timer, it should just punish abilities for a short time after respawning. Like 3-6 less ability points for each ability type for 10-20 seconds or so. Maybe even every time you are splatted with the ability, instead the effects increase a bit rather than making you wait longer. Then a last bonus, quick respawn becomes less effective for the user and those the user splats. Respawn punisher like this wouldn’t be “you play less” but actually a more reasonable respawn punish.

Good video on the topic of Chara, I'll take the liberty of expressing my opinion on the subject. Gear is a very important part of the Splatoon series. As you already mentioned, Gear offers every player the possibility to adapt their equipment to their respective play style. Some players prefer to play more aggressively, and QR is optimal for their play style. Still other players prefer to play undercover and want to take out the opponent from behind, for them Ninja Squid is the perfect option. Gear therefore not only offers the ability to improve one's weapon, e.g. in the form of more shots or better mobility, but can also be adapted from player to player to one's own play style. In Nintendo's defence, however, I have to say that they have improved the options for farming Gear fragments compared to Splatoon 2. You now have more possibilities than before, e.g. with a bit of luck you can also get fragments from the Gacha vending machine, and also if you collect enough XP through your equipment, the farming of fragments with the help of Salmon Run has also been made a lot easier. The fact that you only get equipment with gear fragments from 2400 points in Salmon Run makes things a lot easier. Adding more slots to your gear has also become much easier than in Splatoon 2 thanks to the gear shops, where you can get more slots with money. If you didn't play Splatfest in Splatoon 2, there was no way to upgrade your gear to 4 slots. However, there are also a lot of things that bother me about the current gear system, and these mainly coincide with your points: 1. effect tickets are useless Even if you have the right ticket and the right token for your favourite gear fragments equipped, the chance of getting the right one is pretty low, if you are unlucky you get less than 5 fragments per voucher. The time it takes to level up a gear set consisting of headgear, top and shoes is also very long. Unfortunately, this makes the possibility of farming gear fragments via this method very tedious and boring, which is why I have never used this option in Splatoon 3. (By the way, I have 341 Drink Tickets if I haven't used them because it's just not fun to farm fragments this way). 2. too many fragments are needed for equipment Building the perfect equipment is made even more difficult by the cost of gear fragments. For example, if I want to equip 3 subs with swim speed on a headgear, I need 60 gear fragments, which takes forever to farm. In my opinion, it would be completely sufficient if 5 more fragments had to be paid for each additional slot so that we would then be at a maximum of 45 fragments for 3 subs, so 3 sub slots would be worth just as much as a main. I do it now so that I look before the gear construction whether I have clothes that already have the desired effects, or plan i(After all, it is possible to change a Main Peark in Splatoon 2 it was unfortunately not possible, the good old days). 3. ordering system at Murch is pretty ridiculous. If I want to order gear from other people, then that's what I want and nothing else, I don't understand why they don't make it so that when I order a gear from someone I get it 100% in that version. I don't care if they introduce complete gear at higher prices or set a limit so it's not too easy to get perfect gear, but give the players what they want and no other bullshit. Why introduce such a function if the chance to get the desired gear is less than 1%? That's enough excitement for today for something that's already pretty good, but with a few tweaks it can get even better and, most importantly, more user-friendly.

I think a nice way you could add in more ability slots is having like 5 or so spares that aren’t attached to any gear and are just a part of your character like Chara suggested. Then ppl would be able to customize what abilities they are, adding a bit more freedom of expression and also letting them come up with an idea for why they have those abilities. Someone could give their inkling a bunch of run and swim speed and say that they do a lot of sports or smth, or some ink saver to say they have a custom modded ink tank. Idk, could be cool.

Maybe a potential solution for respawn punisher is to have a cooldown system. Like maybe when you get a kill it won't activate again for x seconds. Then you can make it so the user penalty only applies after getting a kill so its opposite to quick respawn
@-butterfly-594
@-butterfly-594 Жыл бұрын
I think if the user penalty applied only after you got a kill yourself, it would actually encourage more aggressive play from the user rather than more passive play, which I think would be great. It might need a nerf to compensate for that, though.

Prochara, I would like your opinion on the changes I would make to Big Bubbler please? One problem Big Bubbler has that I would change is how many frames it takes to activate it. See, unlike other specials, Bubbler doesn't cancel the shooting of your main weapon to deploy. This means that if you're shooting, you have to go through all of those frames, and then it gives you the option to try and deploy it, then you have to go through the Bubbler's initial start up frames. If you're trying to set it up in front of your team and you don't have the high ground, you're usually dead by this time. It's not much of an opportunist kind of special weapon because of this. So I would first get rid of this. Another change I would make is changing how Kraken Royale's attacks interact with Big Bubbler's shield. Kraken has three attacks: the charge dash, the jump, and the parry. All three do damage to the Bubbler when they hit its shield. That is not the problem. The problem is that these attacks go straight through the shield, not even blocking the attack for the it's team. My solution for this is to give Kraken roller properties when interacting with Big Bubbler's shield. If any of Kraken's attacks hit the Bubbler's shield's hit box at all, it gets knocked back. Kraken can still swim through the shield and attack, it just can't charge through without getting knocked back. Let's say the distance of two and a half players. The last thing I would change would be nerfing how much damage most shooters, most splatlings, and most dualies do to the shield without object shredder. This is because most of the weapons in these three weapon classes have a very efficient special output. So if I am using either of the Splashes, either of the Splattershots, or a Ballpoint, and I see the enemy set up a Big Bubbler, I'm gonna use my Crab Tank, I'm gonna use my Trizooka, I'm gonna use my Tristrike, I am going to use my Inkjet to deny the enemy the ability to set up an attack around the Bubbler. That's assuming I am the one to deal with it. If I got something like a Tri-Stringer or a Stamper on my team, I am just gonna let them deal with it. So, in other words, some of the strongest weapon classes already got enough going for them where they don't need to be too amazing against Big Bubbler. I might also give this same nerf to Splatana Wiper. This would be enough of a change for now.

7:10 less of an actual solution and moreso just an interesting thought, respawn punisher could be reworked to essentially an inverse of what it currently is. instead of increasing the respawn time for you and enemies you kill, it could lower your next respawn time for every enemy you kill, resetting on death. this would help backlines get back into position more quickly and make death less punishing. i think the main issue is that it feels more like a completely different ability than a rework for an existing ability

The main effect of Respawn Punisher is the special drain, not the respawn time increase. RP on a competent slayer, not even necessarily survivable one as QR+RP Tetras found a lot of success before, drastically lowers the special output of the entire enemy team, while on your side it's only you who loses pretty much all of it. The extra second of respawn is fairly negligible on either side and gives added downtime comparable to one grenade toss, people willingly give themselves more when they want to use Booyah Bomb. It's a godsend for people who want nothing but to stomp opposing team's special spamming tendencies and force them into more fun honest neutral encounters. It is a bit less game but the game you get is generally more enjoyable.

I personally really want abilities and visuals to be made separate- like the “vanity slot” concept in many other games. It really burns when you want to visually wear a piece of gear with other gear or weapons yet can’t due to them not all meshing well in abilities + it being way too costly to change what’s already built. While giving gear a sense of individual identity is nice, sealing their role majorly discourages visual experimentation. And also- many players will stick to the same few pieces of gear due to not wanting to grind out the exact same abilities again. With how much fashion is in this game, that’s a massive shame if you ask me

One of the issues with the idea of upgrading the player character's base abilities to include the quality of a single chunk of qsj, ink res, intensify action, etc., is that I would still lead to the same issue if a person then decides that they want to improve those qualities slightly again. I can only see an overall base ability upgrade working out if a single sub of those abilities didn't make a significant difference

Idea for a Respawn Punisher rework: Instead of extending respawn time, getting splatted by RP should apply a movement penalty (aka swim speed down) for a limited time. This would slow the game less because people are not out of play for as long while also still being synergistic for chargers since slowing people down makes hitting shots easier. It can still be countered by cooler but now also by swim speed up

This way we could get the same effect, aka making it longer for the splatted player to come back and help their teammates, but they would still actively be playing during that longer time. Say you really like a shirt but have different builds, one with ninja squid and another with swim speed idk, you can remove the clip set of abilities at your leisure, and attach another whenever you’d like. This wouldn’t fix everything, but at the very least it would make the aesthetics much easier to manage. Heck, you can put the clips on gear with better chances for the subs you want, maybe it’ll make the grind a bit more bearable then…

Yeah the RNG and high time investment has always been the biggest draw backs. For me the biggest change has been ability rolls being put on a set path so seeds can be tracked with outside tools so even a less serious player can get some sets they like put together pretty quick outside of those who just don't have the time to play and passively have tickets/chunks built up a bit so you can take full advantage of said tools. Granted that effect of the change was never intended and probably not liked by the devs. For now though it's pretty easy to save chunks for main ability swapping and use drink tickets to cheese the rolls you want. Ideally though I'd just like a system where you can use in game money to buy chunks as well as trade in sea snails for even larger amounts of the chunks you want. Also being able to swap unwanted chunks in for desired ones in a two chunks paid per one desired chunk kind of setup so there is still some value to getting lucky with what you roll naturally would be nice.

In my opinion, the worst thing about abilities is how poorly explained they are in-game. Without Sendou, it's damn near impossible for the average player to determine how effective each sub/main ability is for their weapon, and the concept of diminishing returns isn't mentioned at all. I didn't realize why Ability Doubler was mediocre until I started using Sendou, but the fact I had to contact an outside resource to do so is troubling, to say the least. also Lean's website is the only way to determine gear RNG in a way that doesn't completely waste your time and that jus kinda sucks for everyone, casual or not

Alternatively, they give you a bank of chunks that you can equip and remove. When you remove a chunk, it goes into your bank. If they make it accessible through Spyke and Murch, they can charge money for it. Because there's gotta be some string attached, make it so you can't use the gear that you want changed for one day and tell players, "Cool it mate, ya thang ain't ready. Stitching chunks on gear takes a long time. Come back for ya stuff later." I know you can add chucks one by one already, heck it's what the video is about. The old chucks are destryed in the process though. If they make it cost a lot of money or super sea snails, it will be a less destructive method of gear building.

Personally I think to mitigate the problem of having over half of your sub slots being taken up, they should just combine some subs like in the last game with bomb def DX. Now this would be strong, but it's just an example, but you could merge QSJ and QR into something like "Quick Turn" since they're both related to returning to the battle (in some cases). Or merge QSJ and ink res since theyre both movement related. Just a thought.

I get Nintendo trying to make some abilities more used by having more effect with less of the same ability. But that just makes it so in the meta you must have 1 of so many subs because their more significant effects are just too useful, and even in more casual play you often use a little bit of everything. That's not really that interesting. Instead I think those ability curves should be toned back and the abilities less used in big quantities should be buffed in general. Or even buff how many AP subs or even mains are worth, maybe a 4/11 ratio so subs could be more worth it (and there would be reason to use ability doubler in splatfests)

Respawn punisher should just be replaced with something new since haunt is the healthy version of it. Maybe an ability called super roll where roll/surge now do damage on contact but it would be like a 4 shot, I don't think IA should affect damage at all though. Also ink res should affect white ink so it's actually worth it on weapons

A few ideas for new abilities that I have is Quick Shot which would only go on torso gear and increase shot Velocity in exchange for slightly higher ink consumption, Aggression which only goes on torso and allows you to deal damage to players by swimming into them but makes your squid form more obvious, Drop Armor which goes on shoes and prevents spawn camping by granting you 85 hp of armor when dropping in for 1.5 seconds but makes your super jump take longer and your marker draw more attention, and Bomb Range Up on head gear which lets you throw bombs farther but they take more ink or take longer to detonate

I feel like Nintendo does not want all the utility subs be there by default, because otherwise they would have done it by now. bit if they're not doing that, i think that they should combine all utility subs into one sub. that way, things like slosher, blaster, or backlines can still stack them.
@DragonOfSummer
@DragonOfSummer Жыл бұрын
I don't mind there being so many utility subs. It's like some of the main abilities, a tradeoff - you can't have everything so you have to chose what you want. And all of these different effects existing means you can stack them up individually which allows for greater fine tuning of your inkling. I agree that the customization should be easier. It's way too hard and grindy, offering zero room for experimentation. It's to the point where I'm holding off on customising my gear because "what if next season has gear I like better" or "what if I wind up playing something else". Building gear is not fun, it's a complete and utter slog.

I feel very mixed with the ability system. I feel like there are too few weapons where you can actually play around with different builds, but for Blasters you stack Intensify Action, for Splatlings you stack Run Speed Up, for 190p weapons you stack Special Charge Up. I wish more abilities were like Ninja Squid or Thermak Ink, a unique effect that doesn't stack, with a tradeoff to make you second guess choosing it over something else. Not just stacking an absurd amount of buffs like Swim Speed or the obligatory Quick Super Jump and Bomb Defense Up you need.

I wish we could choose a load out at any time after unlocking every slot in a piece of gear. It would be so much easier to find an ideal combo when you want to switch weapons. That would also get rid of ability chunks, which feels like another part of the game Nintendo uses to artificially inflate the player count. Want to build your perfect gear for you main? That will be 100 hours of your life. It definitely feels like they’re intentionally improving aspects of the series with each release rather than all at once. We’ve already reached the standard quality of life features for the shooter genre, so they’re making their own admittedly brilliant spin on those while pretending they don’t quite fully comprehend the best way to do it. We’re going to be so hyped when Splatoon 4 releases on the Switch 2 with Raytraced ink, 120fps at 1440+p, perfectly fluid character models down to the smallest expression, . . . and best of all, having every map available to play any game mode we want, and not having to grind your life away to shoot for few seconds longer.

honestly my biggest gripe is the movement speed up and swim speed up abilites. You spend all that time to make a pure out of it only to then find out that your main weapon isn't affected by it. Some of these abilities are facepalm worthy in itself in regards to both diminishing returns and getting smacked with the nerf hammer.

There are so many tiny Monkey's-Paw things that bother me about the Gear System. Like, getting a new main ability from the shop resetting your stars (at least, I think that's how it works? I'm honestly afraid to try.) It was REALLY bad in Splatoon 2 where you had very limited Sea Snails, so I never wanted to build gear. In Splatoon 2, you could get main abilities from Murch 100% of the time, but for 3, they decided "oh, well, you can use chunks now, so lets make that ordering feature noticeably worse." Heck, Splatoon 2 made me MISS the Splatoon 1 gear system because at least then I didn't have choice paralysis. Splatoon 3 is definitely the best system so far though.... now if only I could have multiple of the same piece of gear.

I hate that in Splatoon 3, at the moment, you can only increase Sub Ability slots with money if the Gear is found in the shops. Increasing the slots/Stars at any time requires Super Sea Snails. Needing to find that specific piece of Gear in shops to power it up with money means that Gear with the Cuttlegear and Amiibo would need Super Sea Snails to power up. If you don't want to grind/ deal with RNG in Salmon Run, add Grizzco Brand to the list. My dumb self wasted several Super Sea Snails, recently, not waiting about half an hour to check the shops when the day rolled over before spending the hard-earned Snails. I'm going to be angry if they don't give you another way to earn Super Sea Snails when Splatfests end. Getting the same Gear with a different Main Ability does reset your Stars (it technically replaces that specific piece of Gear; I think the game's text even phrases it as "trade in"). I've wasted at least tens of thousands of Inkling money (possibly a hundred thousand, or more) thinking I bought and upgraded a decent piece of Gear, just to later discover that the standard version's Main Ability (or sometimes the randomly unique Splat Net 3 variant) is better for me. I also get choice paralysis. I find myself scouring the Splatoon Wiki to check the standard versions of each piece of Gear now, so I don't waste more money due to having so much need for Inkling cash. (Disconnects forcing me to get losses and waste money meal tickets really ruins my money grind.) Sometimes I find pieces of Gear that have a Main Ability that I prefer, but then have to consider if I already have a lot of that Ability on that class of Gear and weigh that against how much I'd value a different option, and/or Gear with nice synergy (e.g. Special Saver Main Ability on the Takoroka Brand). I actually scroll through my Gear and count how many of a particular Main Ability I have and compare it to the number of the other Main Ability I'm considering purchasing to help me decide. It's annoying. I'm starting to veer towards the idea of diversifying my options, particularly due to not knowing much of the intricacies of Spla3's version of Abilities yet (I only have a couple months with Spla3, so far) and considering that my values of which Abilities are best may change later. I'm not that much of a fan of Special Power Up, but then there are times when I see a Firefin Brand piece of Gear with Special Power Up as the Main Ability and think, ".96 Deco, though..." so I stick with it, despite the Splat Net 3 random variant having something I like more, like Swim Speed Up, or Comeback as its Main Ability. I really wish every time you could make a purchase in Spla3, even on Splat Net 3, you can see the standard Main Ability on that piece of Gear for comparison. There are more instances where the information isn't as readily available as I'd like, such as multiple times I bought pricy Gear from Spyke/Murch that turned out to be in the shops that day and I had simply just rushed to check with Spyke before the shops due to being used to the orders expiring after a day in Spla1 (I know they still do for off-of-other-player orders, but not Splat Net 3 orders)...

IMO, sub power up is an example of an ability that they just seem to put in the game and forgot about it. (Then again, sub balance is not the best overall, anyway). Aside from squid beakons, does this ability actually have a desirable effect on other sub weapons that people would want to take advantage of?

Personally I think drop roller should give you spawn armor for the duration of the roll And respawn punisher should work like a combo meter, as in if you splat 3 people in a row the 4th person when splated explodes in a suction bomb radius explosion that splats anyone caught in it Or making thermal and haunt into a single ability and making any form of indirect damage via main/sub weapon have an effect There's a lot of wiggle room of what can be put in the game and yet we aren't seeing much at all and that makes me sad

One change I want: *better chunk yields in general from exchanging abilities with extra chunks.* maybe also it takes less chunks to fill gear. My 2 cents: - Respawn Punisher needs to be reworked or removed. Maybe make it work in the reverse of Quick Respawn, where it only activates after the second consecutive kill on the same person and resets if you die. Or make it a debuff that slows the victim's swim speed, Special charge, and Superjump after respawning instead of the respawn-timer thing it does now. Or both. - Honestly, the utility subs wouldn't be *nearly* as much of a problem if we had more slots to work with. Maybe make a dedicated slot for them? - On the topic of chunks, I think it'd be fair if Murch/Spyke could exchange chunks - let's say you want 5 chunks of Run Speed, you could trade 15 chunks of whatever else and get the 5 you actually need (I recommend, based on my own experience having way too many chunks of that ability, Bomb Defense as your vendor-trash sub). - The ticket system is a good start, but really you should be able to use both a food and drink ticket at the same time.

I think one of the methods I really like the idea of is using Mr. Grizz to skip the grind at a heightened price. First, let you exchange coins for Scales and vice versa, with the sell price being lower than the buy price because obviously Mr. Grizz would scam his workers. Next, let you spend Scales at the Grizz Statue to put an ability of your choosing onto your sub or main slots, with the latter costing more since they’re more valuable. However, there’s a small chance for the bear’s sketchy methods of directly manipulating your gear abilities to malfunction, scrubbing the gear slot and giving you a small amount of ability chunks for that ability instead, with 5 chunks for subs and the components of non-stackable mains and 15 chunks for stackable mains. Overall, let you directly choose what you get and skip a large part of the grind, but at the cost of lots of money/Scales and a chance to have it blow up in your face. It mitigates the grind without removing it as on option, and enforces the nature of Grizzco as a profitable but very sketchy and risky investment. I also have two ideas for replacing current abilities, but I’ll put those in the comments.
@thequagiestsire
@thequagiestsire 7 ай бұрын
First replacement: Remove Respawn Punisher for the reasons listed in this video. Instead, a new Clothing ability will be Ink Conduit, which will reduce the white ink frames when using ink-hungry main weapons (not subs to avoid bomb spam) by 30%. So something like a Splat Brella with 60 white ink frames would go down to 42 frames, letting it start recovering ink sooner. This would help a lot of weaker weapons such as Brellas and Rollers by letting them lessen their down time, while not heavily impacting weapons that already don’t worry too much about this like Splattershot or Splat Dualies. Second, remove Stealth Jump as an ability and make it a core function of Super Jump, albeit slightly nerfed if it proves too powerful without the ability cost. In return, have an ability called Leap (name being workshopped) that allows you to do just that: increase your jump height and distance by roughly 20%, including for Squid Rolls and Squid Surges. This would open up new flank routes in certain spots and just grant greater mobility to weapons, especially those who don’t mind jumping like Splash, Squiffer and Nautilus. To ensure no out-of-bounds shenanigans happen to stall or disrupt the match, this will not be applied to those carrying the Rainmaker, and there will be “off-limits zones” added to areas where you aren’t intended to reach, such as on top of the spinners in Museum or many unintended platforms. These zones will act like Rainmaker-free zones in that they will punish trespassers, in this case by rapidly damaging them, draining their ink tank, and preventing the use of Super Jumps to players or Beakons in these zones to make sure no one else gets up there. Since the entire point of Inkjet and Zipcaster is letting you reach these locations temporarily, then recalling you back to normal ground, those using these specials are temporarily immune to the effects of these zones to not indirectly nerf them (because recall specials are objectively cool and deserve to be good). Far from perfect ability concepts, but I’ve tried to think of every aspect of them to ensure they’re impactful and encourage a mobile, aggressive playstyle like Splatoon is meant to have (even for backlines, they often shift their locations quite often are are very proactive in sniping opponents) without producing issues such as easy bomb spam or unintended camping spots.
