Been using act 1 merc with insight on sorc. It is nice that the merc still does some damage after teleporting away since she is ranger. Dies a lot less too with limited gear. Also cold/freezing arrow is nice when it hits non cold immune.

Love it. I actually don't like running FoH + Conviction(for PvM). I think running meditation, with a plague dagger/sword while maxing prayer is better. You and your merc get insane life regen and your holy bolts are like full rejuvs for your Merc. The instant cleansing of poison and curses, which are what cause mercs to die most often, is amazing. For bosses, keep a Stormlash in inventory, and 1pt into smite. Maybe 1pt in Fanaticism for the atk speed. Or, if your merc has decent crushing blow weapon(s), you go 1pt in conviction to lower boss defense. Or just have an infinity Merc + Shaftstop + Vampgaze? For party play you'd also be an absolute treasure. Then I might go with a Phoenix in the offhand shield, but idk. Probably wouldn't need the Redemption unless, I got mana burned as the pack died, and I don't feel like waiting the 3 seconds for Meditation.

Very cool! I think an update to Sanctuary would also be nice where it also does damage to undead and demons, and perhaps even like the holy fire auras where it applies damage to your weapon. Then it can another type of melee auradin that can specialize in the chaos-like areas

This has been the exact setup I've been going with for a few weeks on my throw barb, even down to the Lawbringer in a Phase Blade. Been a really decent setup so far as he never dies, keeping mobs occupied while I launch axes from the back.

I made this already in NL before ladder launch after I found the helmet 2 times and the armor and a friend of mine had the balde!! I didnt have lawbringer sadly but I did have Lightsabre. Only nice part of using that is light absorb against a boss like Mephisto and he also has light damage and magic damage

This looks awesome. For ladder I'm using an act 1 merc with my zoo druid with edge runeword bow, duress runeword and a reg act 2 merc for my lightening sorc. Working on a gear setup for an act 5 merc on another fresh ladder necro since my first use of an act 5 merc when ladder just started ended poorly. Depending on class and spec it really feels like the mercs were beefed up to be useful in ways over just slamming a act 2 merc into your build. Have a 3 socketed phase sword I rolled that I was going to put lawbringer into; now I know what to save the sword for while I try and get more pieces of gear.

I like it - I can see how this Merc would stay alive. I’ve used Lawbringer quite a bit with physical fighters and the decrepify curse and sanctuary aura is an excellent way to stay alive.

this is an awesome budget set up - if I didn't need the mana help on my necro I'd use it. Been trying out the A1 merc with insight. I find that she doesn't hit nearly hard enough, but the AI is really helpful in that she tends to run away and stay back so I'm not spending a fortune rezzing Emilio all the time...

Would really like to see what you can do with a crushing blow act 5 frenzy merc. I currently have mine at 85% CB and drops monster health very quick. Another decent A5 merc set up I've saw someone using for immunes was the 3 piece Sazabi set (weapon off hand) with a main hand Headstriker. For a cheap set up it was slapping buddies immunes with little to no problem. His Headstriker wasn't even Eth either.

I've been waiting to try out the Act 5 merc when I get some gear for it but I've found myself not immediately switching to act 2 merc now that the Act 1 can use insight. 3:46 Besides the Ber joke. U can use the socket in the Helm/Armor for Sol runes. U could use P.Rubys aswell, but act5 merc already have a big life pool, so the Sol runes with the flat -x physical damage taken, will help a little more against Diablo boss.

I setup a fohadin with prayer and cleansing with an act 2 merc with an insight for mana. I do have an infinity so I messed up by going cleansing. I could have went prayer/meditation. I like having the healing for that added safety/laziness factor of not using pots if I take dmg. The cleansing is nice but I recall you using plague with the act 5 merc on another video. All in all you're video really helped me dominate chaos sanctuary with the fohadin, thanks for the tips. Once I get a Cham rune I'll heavily consider swapping over to the act5 merc and respeccing the paladin with redemption.

The stat bonuses on this set also make playing the druid, necromancer and sorceress in melee range much easier which can be fun to mess around with. That mercenary is nuts now

I definitely like this and will give it a shot if I find the gear on ladder. I mostly do Pindle with Holy Bolt only instead of FoH because you never run out of mana and you can just snipe Pindle, see the loot, and leave. But having a level 17 sanctuary would be sweet to just slap all the undead around while I take out Pindle and loot. Nice vid!

I’m running ice arrow merc with insight bow +3 bow base, Smoke armor, and rock stopper on my foher. I run conv, the ice Arrow is nice for cc and with the -150 resist it packs a punch too. She usually stays behind me volleying with ice arrows and most of the time doesn’t get hit

The best thing about the new merc is how fast he is and how easy it is to reposition him with a melee character. Ive been using the combo of Lawbringer and Voice of Reason to give him as much crowd control as possible. He can bring a whole group of enemies to a standstill.

Great for a chaos only runner, my only annoyance with lawbringer when rune farming is it pushes the ghost-types off the map so they don't drop anything. So eventually switched to an eth headstriker + plague once I found them.

Love the budget oriented video! Really cool to see this set in action! I've been using the a1 merc with an insight razor bow for a while now. (just entered a3 hell) and it's getting really rough. she is fine until any mobs get on her. Once mobs start to get on her she dies fast. Think i might swap to a5 merc and use redemption aura to make it through hell solo. I'm getting tired of her dying so much.

I ended up running A5 Merc cause I couldn't easily find bases with the FOHdin. I ended up trading for an azurewrath and that was a game changer. I like that there is actually new theory crafting with the release of 2.4...keep up the ideas.

Dbrunski, what is best law bringer + weapon+ helm+ armor combo for this merc to make them good for a max all ress / 200 casting time sorc (ie all in casting time, without woring about damage) I just want to be able to speed teleport to boss, hit em with 3 or 4 statics, step back, and let my frenzy merc finish em (ideally in just a few hits). Then repeat.

Remember when the info on act 5 mercs getting Frenzy got out. Thought it could be cool to try it out since playing the game as a kid it bothered me that a barb could not dual wield. While it was only in normal it did way more dmg then I thought it would do with only 2 rare crystal swords. Gonna be fun to try it out with some proper gear.

If you don't mind switching auras, I would consider least 1 point into conviction for party play and 1 point into fanaticism for diablo. Nice guide, this setup looks like an equivalent price to insight/tals mask/treachery on a2 merc, but works better for characters that don't particularly need holy freeze or might auras like the FoHdin.

dual lawbringer is something i wanna try on my fohdin too, because then he has level 34 sanc aura which is like 1200% ED against undead lol. then if you farm undead areas he will be doing tons of damage in addition to yours (just not the demons). i also wanna try more of a healer build, instead of conviction/holy shock, just max prayer, extra points into meditation. use meditation/redemption for mana, cleansing when needed, and now holy bolt heals him for a ton so he can tank act bosses too. and youre also getting like 15 life per second from the aura (from prayer synergy)

I've got a ActV frenzy barb with Lawbringer, Voice of Reason, Duress, and G-Face. Between the decrepify proc and the cold from Voice of Reason he provides massive crowd control for my physical Bowazon plus he pretty much annihilates the undead. Maybe for extra damage you would want a different sword? I know attack speed is everything but I have my merc using conquest swords instead of phase blades and I feel kills things faster than you showed in this video.

I tried an insight act 1 merc coupled with my bowazon. It was terrible. She would not stay close enough to me for the aura to be effective and everytime I would reposition to be closer to her, she would run away. Also, I 'm not sure it's working properly 100% of the time. It seemed like the aura didn't proc constantly like it did with my act 2 merc. It was really strange, enough so that I sent in a bug report on it.

I've arrived at a similar conclusion. I'm currently using a Frenzy merc with my Wind Druid. Full Sazabi set, but the second weapon is a 'Voice of Reason' Phase Blade because I happened to have one kicking around in my stash. This merc never dies. It's great!

I started off using frenzy merc and loved it, but I switched to a1 with insight and its lower dmg for sure, but it's more valuable being a sorce to have that meditation up then have a merc that hits hard 3 times then dies.

Another idea here. My Frenzy merc is also cheap, using Demonhorn (3/2/2), Treachery, Lightsabre (Shael), Azurewrath (Amn). The Demonhorn is great for the merc's Taunt and Frenzy, besides providing 10% IAS. He taunts before he attacks! This works unbelievably well. The Azurewrath is the hardest to find, or about the same as the Sabazi set. I also tried with an even cheaper Lawbringer (ethereal Mythical Sword) instead of the Azurewrath to get the all important Sanctuary aura, with pretty good results. Lawbringer has 2 other important features - Decrepify (20% chance) and Slain Monsters Lay In Peace (Nithalak runs), but though very nice Decrepify will override other curses like Life Tap, if that is important to you. The answer to that problem is for the main character, in my case a Frenzy barb, to be the one using, besides Grief, the Lawrbringer (plus LOH) to get Decrepify and Slain Monsters Lay in Peace, in normal play, and then for Ubers, to switch to Death plus Draculs for Ubers, to get the Life Tap, Crushing Blow, etc. By doing that, the merc using Azurewrath will not affect whatever curse you want to have (unlike the Act 2 merc with Reapers). Similar to Lawbringer, Azurewrath is good when there are lots of Undeads, Lord de Seis, Knights, Spectors, ... due to its Sanctuary aura. I especially like this Frenzy barb/merc combination, as they can move swiftly and move together even without teleporting. (Make sure the merc has a lightweight Treachery like Archon). The Demonhorn has an IAS jewel in it, but I may replace it with a Cham, or get another Demonhorn and socket it with lots of Lightning resistance for Ubers. There is I think still a lot to experiment with with this merc.

something I just thought about for interesting mercs, what about a dream lighting act 3 merc? by all means not cheap but I think it'd be interesting. having a merc walk around with lvl 30 holy shock while also doing static and having decent resistances and life and defense. or maybe a fire version with dragon/hand of justice? though I do realize the on hit effect of holy fire/shock would be wasted on this merc as they never attack and only cast skills so that kind of sucks, but would be funny I'd think. though really really expensive lol

I definitely rock the double lawbringer when doing nihlathak runs, let the frenzy barb kill everything and you’ll never die from a corpse explosion again, then I left them both in and it’s still awesome. As long as you don’t need an aura from insight, it’s frenzy barb all the way

I use an act 1 rouge freezing arrow variant with Insight, treachery and a vamp gaze with a 15 ias jewel to hit the 60% breakpoint and she’s died like one time in hell and freezes just about everyone. I love it. I plan on doing some work with the act 5 merc too but people are still sleeping on the new act 1. It’s really good. Especially if you hit her speed breakpoint

Just experimenting with this now with a lvl 28 bowazon in norm act 5. I have rubbish in terms of gear as this is my first Char on D2R ladder. However, having switched out of an act 2 merc the difference is very noticeable. Much improved take down and survivability using a King’s Grace eth Crystal sword for the life steal. Armour is a rare chain and offhand is a rare sabre, so again the epitome of early low level stuff.

It's a cool set up but I'm still more likely to have found an insight base and runes and some budget armor for an A2 merc first. The meditation aura and general survivability of the a2 merc is still unrivalled even after buffs to others (at least for any caster)

That set combo with lawbringer is amazing on an act 5 merc. I was using it during the PTR. I'm glad you are giving the setup some visibility. My only complaints with the new act 5 merc is his attack rating sucks. He misses about %70 of his swings whereas all the other mercs hardly miss at all. I think he needs blade mastery and he would be good to go.

I know, dude! I've heard like none of the youtubers talk about this problem. I've been trying to think of set ups that help him, so far, to boost is AR, I'm running Fanaticism, Arreat's Face, and thinking about using Enchant charges from Demon Limb before runs. Seems to help a bit but not enough for him to kill monsters like Venom Lord quickly.

@@scottclark761 Yeah man, I'm not sure why no one mentions it. Most streamers I have seen testing it use grief or a headstriker with a jah which is silly because any other merc can use any weapon and have a near 100% hit rate.

I've been running a Hydra Sorc just to farm nightmare andy and mephisto but getting up there was a bit troublesome with some areas, though this type of merc seems like something that would help as I just need something to keep the enemies at bay while my hydras do their work. though the level requirement is more of hell level than nightmare so donno how helpful this will be, maybe when I want to farm hell andy and mephisto. but I think the level 73 requirement for the sword kind of makes it outside of budget territory? not sure. I mean its budget that no one else kind of wants it and tagged as trash by most, so.... not sure.

I do cows whit a summoner, if this kills one cow faster than emilio and doesnt die then its Better for corpse explode, but lawbringer doesnt seem optimal for the aura, or is good anyway?

How do you do cows with a summoner? My skeletons run all over, aggro nearby packs, and then I get swarmed and flattened. :)

@@unicyclepeon they are used as a wall, until merc kills one, then spam corpse explosión, make sure use amplify dmg before, revived cows are usefull too, i have maxed corpse for the Big Radius. But all of this don't work if merc dies cuz as u said skeletons do no dmg

I was thinking it would be cool if they had one or two merc-oriented set items that don't use amulets or gloves, ect. Sets you can fully complete on a mercenary that are actually worth it. I didn't realize this set was one.
