That red body looks really nice, but Relic'd necks look horrific... I know it's to give the guitar a character but what's the story behind that? 'This guitar has been previous owned by a coal miner, who played for 10 hours a day and washed his hands some time around 1987 and never since... in the mid '90s the mine collapsed, entombing the miner and his trusty guitar. It was recently dug up and can now be yours... for the price of a 2013 Fiat Punto'

I love the fact that you actually approached Fender to remake Pete's amazing purple guitar and I love the fact that they actually did it!!! Plus, I love the story how Pete's got his Tele! I exactly know that feeling. I sold my beloved Lay Paul couple of years ago and after my divorce, I went into a depression and all of a sudden good stuff happened and I messaged the buyer and it turns out he wants to sell it. So I bought it back. Was one of the happiest moments in my life. I love how "personal" your videos are and that you just are yourselves. Greets from Frankfurt/Germany!

Why talking away the joy of beating up your guitar ? I understand that poeple don't want to wait 10 years for their guitar too look like that but there are other ways. I bought a brand new Gibson Les Paul two years ago and man, the joy when you let it slide on the stairs "by accident" or use it to play soft ball. I even used it as a table to rest my feet on it or even to eat. One good thing is to let it rest behind a door so when you open it, it hits the guitar each time a little bit. I even used it as a paddle. Water and humidity is good for your guitar, the most important thing to relic it is the fungus. Rotten wood is the best tone wood you'll ever get.

A week late to the conversation, but the Andertons KZbin channel probably isn't making them an excessive amount of money. With 95 million total views, at approximately $2000 revenue per million (the paid amount could be *much* less), that's maybe $190,000 (£135,000) across 10 years. When you consider the production costs of these videos including staff, the Andertons shop itself must have made many, many times the profits. But they're two sides of the same coin, I buy my gear from Andertons *because* the KZbin channel sold me on the Andertons brand (plus they'll usually price match any other retailer...).

I might be a shredder metal guy, but I still want pete even demo-ing the shredder stuff. Hell, I want to see what Pete does with Rabea's Baritone. He's spectacular.

Yeah I thought that. I could have sworn Pete has said more recently it's a twisted Tele neck and nocaster bridge.

As has been said you either like the look of it or you don't, personally I wouldn't go near a relic anything. As to it having sonic benefits by taking a power sander to it then that's just wishful thinking. Taking the shine off poly coatings on the neck isn't that rare a thing to give them a smoother feel. Also anything looking that bad if it was aged the old fashioned way would have had multiple re frets probably pickup and other changes done to it over the years. Please don't tell us it sounds better coz it looks like a pile of offcuts from a skip

Never really understood why you would by a relic'ed guitar instead of a new one. Doesn't affect sound, right? After hearing this, I don't care - sign me up - I'm a believer!

This is screaming for a blind test (listener is blindfolded, player isn't) where the same player is given a couple of similar specc'ed teles - then see if the listener can tell which one is the relic. Personally, I think the relic may feel more comfortable, so the player will sound more fluid...

In the past, if a guitar body or neck got accidentally damaged at the Fender factory they would have had to throw it out. Now thanks to the 'magic' of relicking, they can 'hide' the damage by damaging it even more and then charging more money for it than they do for the pristine ones. Fender must be laughing all the way to the bank.

My sense is that either of these guitarists; can make beautiful sounds even if they were playing the cardboard boxes that these guitars were originally shipped in! Is it possible they love these guitars because of the “MOJO” and their history, maybe it gives them inspiration to play even better. But to my ear; many of the modern guitars on the higher end (gulp) sound better than these vintage rigs. And that could be my lower level of expertise also. I wonder if when you get really good, you can hear or feel an improvement when it comes to vintage Tele ‘s. And my ignorance is detracting from my ability to hear what they do. Any thoughts, guys?

Problem we now have with relic guitars is, conversely........if you spend your inheritance on a genuine 50's Telecaster, everyone thinks it's a brand new Custom Shop relic !!!!!!!! Instead of the other way around as originally intended !!!!!!!

Do us a favour: do a comparison of the 50s Baja Classic Player, the 60s Baja Classic Player, the bog standard Made in Mexico, and an American Standard Tele. Add anything else into the mix you like. Do it blindfold, or not (though blindfold tends to be funnier and perhaps more valuable). I tried some of these at Anderton's and I'd like your take on them. Cheers!
