I have this on my home built in 2016. The roof looks great and it got me a nice discount on my home insurance but you can smell it on a hot, sunny day. The smell has declined over time and is not that noticeable now. Some of the neighbors originally called it the "Goodyear" house because of the smell. I would still choose it over asphalt shingles for the hale protection and longevity.

@@scottdonbrosky5968 I have not noticed any streaking or staining. I live in East Texas near Tyler and the climate is, well, Texas. 100F+ is not uncommon in the summer and last winter set a new record at -6F. I live on a large lake with a West exposure so the house has seen some strong winds with no issues. The roof seems very durable and the smell is a non-issue after a few hot summers. The only thing I do not like about it is that the edges tend to curl up. Some have curled up so much you can see the nails holding the one below but I have not noticed any leaks and despite some nasty storms, no lost or torn shingles.

@@Ariel-xz8lg Rain water harvest contamination is a deal breaker for me too!! That's too bad... I was really excited to see this product! I have very large, old, Oak Trees, which partially hang over my house way up in the canopy. This means we sometimes have branches that drop on to our roof. They aren't large enough, or heavy enough, to compromise the structure, but to have a rubber roof, the branches could just bounce right off, and it would be fantastic!! A perfect solution! I love how the trees shade my house, and besides that, some of these trees are older than 200 years, and I would never compromise THEIR structure simply to accomodate my human existence. They've been around much longer than me, and in my book- THAT deserves respect! So, on the rain water contamination issue, not only does that infect my drinking water, it has an effect on the nearby trees too, along with all the soil microbes, and plants surrounding the house. And third, with a low slope roof, we need to get up there and blow off the leaves at least 3 times a year. So a rubber roof would've been perfect for walking on! Now I'm wondering if anyone out there in the world is making a rubber roof with no contaminants... ? Or is that too much to ask for? Looks like I'm headed for a rubber rabbit hole...

I have a question roof related and energy conservation related. I have a commercial building with at least 2 feet open space with metal trusses. My aim is to simplify roofing by limiting penetrations etc Why cant you either slope several plumbing vent pipes up and connect them together to a larger vent pipe resulting in one penetration? If its because of possible negative pressure created by one of the other vent pipes then why not have a single penetration with a large enough pipe to contain several different vent pipes within it? For instance a single penetration with a 6 inch PVC pipe that has 6 or more say 2 inch vent pipes in it. The vents within it could also terminate at different heights if they need to. Kinda the same idea as double walled vent pipe for a condensing furnace that takes in the combustion air from outside and vents furnace gases to outside at the same time also used on gas tankless water heaters.

Mr Avco, what is the water quality/contamination/tainting like coming off one of those recycled tyre roofs? I would imagine that even with the additives and binders there would be a subtle amount of surface particulate shedding that would be carried away in the water stream and if collected could cause flavour or even health issues in the water supply from the roof? Do you have any hard data on that? Or does the manufacturer, I should say?

Glib answers are funny! But actually, this is a serious subject. Especially if Mr. Avco is installing these roofs inside the Edward's Aquifer Recharge Zone here in Austin. Or anywhere else for that matter... Does ANYBODY want their drinking water poisoned with toxic chemicals? Do we really want to have toxic run-off seeping into the underground water systems every time it rains? Bcuz I can guaruntee you the natural filtering process underground CANNOT filter out those types of chemicals. So being able to drink from your house's gutters actually SHOULD BE standard procedure. Unless you prefer to drink toxic water, and grow toxic food. (and Yes, it WILL end up in your food.) A few months ago my roof sustained some hail damage so I'm seriously considering this product in the next year. There is, however, one aspect of a hail resistant roof that's a weakness. It's the array of wimpy metal vents. Are there vents that are as robust as Euroshield shingles? Only then can a roof be worry free.

Best answer from their own website: To answer this question properly you have to understand what makes tires crack. Tires have metal wiring in them, this is what gives the tire its shape, and when you expand & contract this wire enough it will eventually break. When the metal in the tire breaks you will visually see the rubber crack or separate. Euroshield® roofing materials contain no metal so we do not have to worry about this problem. In both real-life & lab-testing, Euroshield® has never cracked.

Can you shed some light on the possible rain water harvesting contamination issue? Is there any water contamination resulting from these rubber roofs? Do these shingles off-gas? Not to mention the soil beneath... Soil surrounding a house could also be filled with toxic chemicals IF THERE ARE any running off these roofs? And if toxic chemicals ARE present, the food plants which grow near the roof run-off, as well as plants that rely on roof run-off water would uptake those chemicals, thus transferring toxic chemicals into my food. So you can understand how the question of off-gasing, and also rain water contamination, are extremely important, right? I sure would like some straight answers on this subject. I live in the northwest and secondary to a total lack or mismanagement of our forests, wildfires have become an annual event, consuming thousands of homes a season. As a former fire fighter I know the created winds in these fires have the capability to loosen and loft pieces of thick bark several inches thick two or three feet long totally on fire and carry it miles, yes miles, from the tree that burned up. How fire resistant is this product?

I don't like the way the edges of the roof look, but that might just be me. Otherwise, I'm here for it. Looks like it could be sealed up really easily, and not having to replace a roof for 20+ years seems like a great thing. Disposal and changing out the roof might be an issue, but if you could recycle the roof into a new roof that would take care of that.

I can't believe that recycled tires are actually twice the cost of asphalt shingles, crazy. This is a great product for anywhere that's hit by hail or hurricanes often. Not sure if the trade off of cost is worth it though. Unless your homeowners insurance is insanely expensive, and installing these will lower the premium. The question is by how much. My guess is you're still better off cost wise to just use asphalt and have the insurance pay out to fix it when it gets damaged by hail or a hurricane.

Entire Gulf Coast is hurricane country & southern plains is hail country plus horrid solar in both. I just don't see much improvement over 30 yr asphalt if you're in either zone. Just accept fact that roofs will be damaged to point of replacement.

It has a class C fire rating and the Beaumont and Vermont profiles weigh 240 lbs. per square (100 sq.ft. Area) and the Rundle and Ranchlands come in at 340 lbs. per square. Cost will depend on the county and region that you are in, contact Euroshield to get your pricing info.

The company publishes the tests they want to promote, but avoid mentioning UV exposure test results. Wonder why that is? Overall, I like the shingle, but I don't want to have a spider-cracked and dry-rotted roof after 25 years. If they would add this type of damage coverage to their warranty, I would strongly consider it.

Most firefighters hate roofs that are not flammable, they have no way to get water in the home to put the fire out quickly.
@sebastiantevel898
@sebastiantevel898 Жыл бұрын
@@helena_augusta I was a firefighter. I can tell you that the moment you want to flush water through the roof, the whole house is a write off. So at that point who cares... you need the firefighters only to prevent the fire to migrate to other properties. On the other end if you have the rare fire starting on top of your roof, for example from flying debris from another fire, the flames will likely starve itself not finding flammable material, to the point that it will extinguish on its own or with just little water.

The back side of the panels are chambered which suspends the the heated top surface off of the roof deck reducing thermal transfer. It is noticeably cooler in the attic on hot days. Building Code writers are taking notice, inferior products are too costly to keep replacing.

Rubber is an organic product that will get hard and brittle over time. Anyone who has restored an old car knos every rubber part will fail in 10 - 30 years, or less. I'm glad it's resilient, but I doubt long term durability of a rubber roof system.
