Can I ask you what you had to give up (military benefits ect) in order to leave?

Certainly. Essentially, I gave up a pension and lifetime healthcare for me and my dependents. If I had decided to stay in for an additional 12 years, I could have earned guaranteed income that entire time (vs being unemployed now) and at 20 years I could retire and receive the pension immediately at age 43 and have TRICARE (military healthcare) for the rest of my life. But, I feel I’m young enough and have a good enough earning potential that to me, these considerations weren’t enough to convince me to stay in. Fortunately I stayed in long enough to earn the Post 9/11 GI Bill (VA education benefit) and some other VA benefits.

I feel like I’m getting old I was in the ACU Army. I also remember when I was getting out the MultiCam uniforms had a lighter color pattern.
