Post-covid gigs - problems and possibilities [opinion]

Years 2020 and 2021 were more or less ruined in terms of gigs and festivals due to covid19 pandemic. Come spring 2022 and things are changing: a lot of gigs and festivals taking places. But things are not as smooth as they were. Why and how? Let's talk about that.

Post-lockdowns to be more precise. COVID was never a reason to not have concerts, aside maybe Jan-Apr 2020, when we didn't know much about it.

jerry, yeah you nailed it, VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET we all have horrible job's and pay the bills ..since covid ive bought all my music through the artist directly / bought tickets for gigs which may or may not happen / bought fanzines / went to see MGLA last month and in 3 weeks Napalm Death ..so put your money down or shut up.. I've already been to 3 shows no mask and enjoyed them to the max (except the last show) and I am supposedly a 'high risk' person and I feel fine and haven't had anything bad going on

I see the other reason - people do not very interested in live shows anymore. There is an example. I remember when covid started and we all had locked down in our cozy apartments, few of my colleagues and clients (I'm working in recording studio) told me that they miss gigs so much and they would visit any, even a shitty one. Hah, none of these guys showed up at the club when we had a first local post-covid gig. All I see is empty halls, doesn't matter what bands are playing.

So, one crazy thing that happened in the US was the stampede at Astrofest. This made insurance prices skyrocket for Maryland Deathfest, and as a result they will probably have to skip a year. Bullshit and hopefully only a US problem. That sort of shit would never happen at a metal fest, or even a hip-hop fest that actually has good/real hip-hop. I buy tickets impulsively. If I can't make it because of work or family, I'll sell them at face value. Covid is here forever, so it shouldn't have as much bearing on decisions promoters make in the future, but I would rather see LESS BANDS and BETTER BANDS and I would gladly pay a higher price for less bullshit. Hell's Heroes probably did the best job in the US for 2022 thus far. I am still planning on the two Grieghallen nights for Beyond the Gates in Bergen.

Yeah, that Astrofest probably fucked a lot of things in the USA. But that doesn’t affect things in other parts of the world I’m sure. Here, it seems, some opportunist people are trying to make easy money with poorly organised events and that’s causing problems now.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrauta.... people dont want the hassle of the new "rules" or cant afford it. A festival pre covid, is now at least 1.5x more expensive... and lets be honest most metal festivals are attended by people between 16-30 working class. We are now much poorer than we were
