To Wheels' point; Marsch will need to find a young CAM that he likes. J. David is playing all wrong. At Lille he's played in a 4-2-3-1 with short service provided to him. It's obvious that we'll need to replicate that. Marsch obviously didn't like Hoilett or Osorio for the CAM.

Getting away from 442 will be so refreshing for this team imo. I love the 4231 to get the most out of David. As for who canplay the CAM, Junior was only out because he was injured, otherwise I feel like it would have been him, as well as Oso being an influence off the bench.

@@merru-mun7414 No, Marsch clearly had no plans to play Hoilett or Oso as a CAM. He said before the Netherlands match that he knew exactly how he wanted to use Hoilett, which I had hoped was as a 10, but then he sub'd him in as a replacement for Buchanan on the right wing, and he sub'd in Osorio as a striker, keeping the 4-2-2-2. The difference in quality between them and us was enough to see this result. I mean, Alvarez's first touch on their first goal was absolutely WORLD CLASS. It was artistry in motion. We shouldn't hang our heads whatsoever. Not long ago we were blowing 2-0 leads against HAITI in the Gold Cup. Now we're holding Argentina to 2-0 and probably should have had a goal if Tani's header had been better quality at the death. ALLEZ LES ROUGES!!!!

I was hoping that we wouldn't get crushed...a goal would have been nice and a 3-1 result would have made me happy. Those missed chances on net are really starting to irk me, and I was in the "They will come eventually" camp. Then again, this is Argentina, in a knock out game, they were never giving us much. To my credit though, I did put $400 on the game for Canada to win lol. 10 to 1 odds were just a little too tasty to not take a chance. Ah well, overall the level Canada is playing at is unbelievable to me, after years, decades of heartbreak I'm high as kite and so happy for our nation and all thr new buzz and fandom this is all creating. I didn't expect us to win. I even expected us to get routed by 2-3 goals. But from a team whose best and most expensive players are in front, two goals all tourney, and barely an attacking threat against Argentina, that was a bit of a pathetic showing. I really hope we step away from 442. It's an outdated formation, and it doesn't allow for our best players to shine. Two strikers up front doesn't work anymore, we need one striker, two profiles in Larin and David, and three behind them to give them chances.
@boxbury

David and Larin are non factors. I was starting to wonder if Larin was even playing until he finally got a touch later in the game. David had 2 terrible games in a row. Usually plays much better for his club and needs to be a solo striker up top. Hes not in his element playing that #10 roll. I agree Canada has improved overall. Canada can confidently say they can compete at the international level, unlike USA or Mexico currently. Their naivite played a role against a team like Argentina. Argentina is not only a very good team, they also know how push their rival buttons to make them lose concentration. However, as great this experience was for Canada, its not about how good they have become... is about what they are lacking. that is how you keep growing

Biggest disappointment is that Canada just didn't go for it. They really just sat back after they said they weren't going to do that. It was like they only wanted to avoid being blown out. It was the worst thing that could have happened. If they go for it they can cause Argentina problems, even if they risk counter attack like the first game. Instead, Argentina was able to take their time and wait for their opportunities. Canada allowed Argentina to play their game. Super proud of the boys and Marsch for this tourney performance, but how they approached tonight was disappointing.

You know, I think that after rewatching the match I'm going to take this back. It's clear the boys were worn out. The lack of depth and therefore lack of cycling players through the tourney is obviously asking just too much for this group. They pushed as much as they could and simply weren't able to make the most of the chances they were able to create. David in particular just seemed so tired. He's still smart in his movements but his touches are tired. Really proud of these performances and with the changes Marsch said will be made to the starting XI against Uruguay I'm expecting a good showing Saturday. And my goodness, this group will be truly dangerous come 2026.

Not allowing many goals against top South American sides is something to build on. Think of rugby in Argentina - that’s football in Canada right now. We don’t expect to beat Argentina of course and we know we were fortunate to get to semis but it doesn’t mean we are a terrible side. At the end of the day if we are shit that means most of South America is worse? If we are so bad it’s easy to prove it, just score a bunch of goals against us - but no one in this tournament could…
