well take into consideration this fella is touring non-stop so yea it's nice to play something different, not because he hates his own music.
@mewgiah80575 жыл бұрын
His roots are in rock / folk. I think he does like his own music. But the reality is that it’s over produced, and the majority of the music can’t be played live. Which is why at his shows it’s just pre-recorded and he’s just a singer. Basically all the magic happens in the studio, and once they step away from all the machines it’s kind of done. Like a film that’s been edited and complete. Since he’s a musician at heart, I think he truly loves playing his guitar. And a lot of these folk songs speak to him more on an emotional level (which he admitted in an interview a couple years back when he said he listens to others genres if he wants to think or feel other emotions).
@mewgiah80575 жыл бұрын
Wouter van der Molen well that and live all he does is sing. Everything is pre-recorded since you can’t recreate the layered production in the studio on a stage. So I imagine he gets tired of just being a singer every night and years to play his guitar. Songs like Bob Dylan require the guitar to go along with the voice as it’s almost apart of the vocals. It’s prob more engaging.

It’s crazy how Bob Dylan is scrutinized for his nasally voice but I’ve never seen someone cover his songs with the same timbre and passion that he had
@matthews78053 жыл бұрын
That’s funny you said that because I agree with you about Dylan’s voice and timbre (Tomorrow is a Long Time is one of my faves), but I prefer Dave Van Ronk’s versions of He Was a Friend of Mine and Song to Woody for exactly what you said about passion. DVR was a master interpreter with a similar voice, IMHO.

Fuck Austin’s record label for changing him. The person he is today isn’t him. He’s a born and raised country loving Texan. After getting signed his label forced him into a contract he didn’t understand the fine print to at first and they only allow him to make music targeted to today’s majority radio audience. He’s said in his own interviews he doesn’t even like the music he puts out and won’t listen to it. All of the songs he writes if you actually listen to the lyrics are about him being trapped by money and the drugs they pump into him to try and keep him happy doing something he hates. Even in his happiest songs you can tell. The music industry is disgusting. #justiceforaustinpost

@@ehhlf2217 He doesn't "have" to, but if your record label tells you what to make/produce/sing/perform etc...that's what you do. There are many principled artists who said screw you to the record labels and did their own thing and became extremely successful. He just happened to not be one of them.

When you get signed you have to do the style THEY want you to do. You can tell he likes rock more than rap, watch his passion on his Nirvana covers and he drops the fake hip hop accent too. Mayer also said he likes blues more than pop but pop was the only way to be put on the map.
